I've had a long career (and shall I say) search for the best massage that I could find. Always adrift, never satisfied, moving from one supposed "great" masseuse after another. Always in vain; always ultimately disappointed. All that ended when I found Okuyama about eight years ago.

A friend recommended Mei, insisting that her massage-work was like nothing she'd had before. Intrigued, I decided to try her out. This was three locations ago and I believe that if they somehow ended up on the moon that I'd find a way to get there!

This review is less about the massages, as these will speak for themselves—they are some of the only ones I've ever had that accomplish any real therapeutic effect. No, I'm not going to wax poetic in this review about how deeply transformative these sessions can be if you come and make a commitment to return regularly. If you don't do this and meet the discomfort halfway its difficult to paint the proper picture. Let's put it this way, if you suffer in your body and want to learn how to eliminate it, come see Mei or Michael and keep coming, period.

This review is about their new place. Since I have been to the others I'm in a position to comment on this one and it's evident progression from the earlier ones. This space is bigger, cleaner, more welcoming, and better equipped for the kind of work that these marvelous individuals can do. If you are looking for an amazing massage in a soothing environment you need not look any further. Take my eight years of dedicated experience as testament to improve your...

I booked my 1 hour session via ClassPass. I showed up and signed a quick consent form and was lead into my room. I can tell that the rooms are set up as singles or dual beds for couple sessions. A bath towel was used as a barrier for most of the massage (except arms). Michael worked on my knots with deep tissue pressure. He could tell where the knots were before I even expressed them. At the end, he also cracked parts of my upper back and neck which I did not expect! I appreciated the professional nature and effort that Michael provided. The duration was exactly 1 hour (he did briefly leave to attend to another client who arrived.) An hour session paid in cash is $60 which is a steal in Manhattan! I plan to book...

This place is a hidden gem! It is not the fanciest place but I found it to be clean and the employees are very pleasant to interact with. I came in for a 90 min deep tissue massage and Lisa did a really great job! I was in pain all over, but started to feel better during the massage itself, and felt super relaxed after. Her pressure was just perfect and she knew exactly what spots needed more attention than others, without me having to tell her. Unlike other places, this place is also particular about making sure a 90 min massage is truly 90 minutes (not less!!) and I appreciated that greatly. Will definitely be back and I found no reason at all to give it anything less...

GO SEE MEI AT OKUYAMA CHELSEA. Do it, right now. Your body will thank you. Mei has magic hands, she is an intuitive healer. She has helped my back, neck, and shoulders so much. Her deep tissue technique is highly customized plus she will adjust pressure and targets if asked [though Mei always finds the exact spots that need attention]. Mei is one of my favorite people in NYC, she's kind, empathic, and positive. The prices are great, too, especially for Manhattan. Okuyama Chelsea is a gem and Mei is wonderful 💎. Go see her!
