I booked a weekend stay at this Homewood Suites because I've stayed here before, & I LOVE MS.CARLA WHO WORKS THE FRONT DESK, BUT when i went to check in last Friday, sadly, Ms.Carla wasn't working! After working 8 hrs & driving 3 hrs from Charlotte to Charleston, I arrived at what turned out to be a NIGHTMARE! A little history: I frequent Charleston a lot, & have stayed at a number of the Hilton brand hotels around the city. I choose Hilton simply because I'm very picky about where I lay my head at night (keep that in mind), and Hilton had so far provided me with that LEVEL OF COMFORT! Upon checking in & going to my 1st room I noticed the big vanity light was out, and the sink was stopped up so i quickly called the front desk, told the girl and headed back downstairs to switch rooms. She was courteous, apologized, and promised to give me some points for the inconvenience ( i need to fact-check that on my app) Now I'm in the 2nd rm. i start checking the bathroom, wiping things down, spraying lysol, & end up back in the vanity area WELL upon stepping back to the bedrm area i see something on the pillow (NEVER EXPECTING THIS KIND OF COMPANY) BUT ITS A BED BUG! I GRABBED MY BAGS SO FAST, DARN NEAR BROKE MY ANKLE TRYING TO GET OUT THE FRONT DOOR, BUT NOT BEFORE SNAPPING PICS!! IN UTTER SHOCK & DISBLIEF I'M NOW BACK AT THE FRONT DESK!!!!!!!! Shifts have changed, and now it's Vanessa working the front desk, who i later found out was the GENERAL MANAGER! I approached her & said, "I gotta be being 'PUNKED' tonight (not yelling-but really looking for Ashton Kutcher to jump out)of course she's confused so i proceeded to tell what i had been through since walking through their doors! This lady was NICE/NASTY!!! STILL IN SHOCK SHE'S THE GENERAL MANAGER!! Nice because she offered to put me in their connecting sister hotel (Doubletree) for one comp night, which she reminded me of a thousand times but kept ending the sentence with YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT, although i NEVER complained about her kind gesture, but she literally let it be known she was "DOING ME A FAVOR" saying they ARE NOT in the business of finding hotels for people!! Meanwhile, I'm looking at this lady like she has a thousand heads!!!! She told me she was canceling my reservation right now, which i requested because there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY i could sleep comfortably ANYWHERE in there! She tells me to follow her to the other hotel, walking fast, doors closing on me, mind you i had a handful of luggage, just being rude, this lady was pissed that i was annoyed and upset about my experience. Well, she said she'd inspect the room 1st, so i waited in the lobby. While waiting, i proceeded to go on my app & try to book another rm for Sat. night & the app tells me i can't double book under my F&F, mind you Vanessa claimed she canceled the room while we were at the last hotel so she comes back out says everything looks good,( which it did not but it was decent enough for the 1 COMP NIGHT VANESSA KEPT REMINDING ME OF)! I am now telling her about the situation w/ the booking she tells me she'll cancel it when she gets back, totally ignoring the fact she told me it was canceled already THEN I'm telling her i need to find a place its already about 8pm and I'm stuck in a situation i didn't forsee so I'm asking her when she goes back & cancel will it take place in real time so i can rebook this lady looks me in my face& says I'm not doing this with you (NASTY)and walks off, so i told her lets see if you walk away from corporate when i call them about this! This GENERAL MANAGER showed very little empathy!!! Had a hard time working under pressure, and says things NO GENERAL MANAGER SHOULD SAY AFTER A GUEST JUST FOUND A BED BUG IN THEIR ROOM!! She should've been offering a million points & a presidential suite ALL WEEKEND how i see it and all while showing genuine concern, even if she had to FAKE IT, & being super apologetic about my HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! HILTON DO BETTER! MAKE SURE YOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM CAN HANDLE THINGS IN A PROFESSIONAL & COURTEOUS WAY NO MATTER WHAT!!

As a diamond member, I have stayed at Hilton properties of all sorts throughout SC and the country. This is by far the very worst. Visually, the hotel is nice and the staff for the most part are very nice. However there are 3 major problems. The **very** worst is the parking situation. This Homewood Suites is connected to a Doubletree hotel. There simply are not enough parking spots in the parking lot. We have stayed here 2 nights and any time- day or night- there are zero parking spots that are anywhere near the entrance to the Homewood Suites. They should have never built this property in this way with 2 hotels with totally inadequate parking. Because of the how the Homewood Suites and Doubletree are connected, the majority of parking spots (which are very few) are located in the back of the Doubletree, meaning you have to walk almost around both properties to get into Homewood Suites- there are no back doors you can go into the hotel. This is the case in the middle of the day and at night. Thankfully I am with my husband but if I was alone it would be terrifying to have to walk around 2 hotels in the dark parking lot by yourself. Tonight when we got back, there literally were zero parking spots available. People were parking on the grass and in every single space available, making driving around dangerous also because people literally parked on every spare piece of concrete. We ended up having to park immediately outside the Homewood Suites entrance in a no parking zone. The second problem is the bed. It is hard as a rock. I have stayed in multiple other Homewood Suites and their beds have never been a problem. The third problem is the location of this hotel and getting in and out of the hotel. It is located in a very congested, high volume area/intersection and getting from and to the 26 can take as long as 15 minutes- and it is right there. There are so many better Hilton properties in the Charleston and North Charleston area without these issues and we will never ever stay here again. When we came in tonight I informed the front desk about how I had to park illegally and how the parking has always been horrendous (this was the only time that we actually parking anywhere near the front door and was able to talk to the front desk- every single other time we came in we had to park far away in the back of the building so had to go through the side door). The front desk clerk said parking was horrible and that there were 3 events at the Doubletree. I explained parking has been horrible other nights as well, and all day long, and that if the Doubletree is having such large events it is the responsibility of this property to have adequate parking. I asked how I could make a formal complaint and she handed me a business card with the tripadvisor link on it? I asked to make a complaint to the hotel manager or to Hilton, not Tripadvisor- she said there was no general manager of the hotel and the only thing I could do was complain to Tripadvisor? Unless you do not have a car, and love a rock-hard mattress, do NOT stay at this property!! (Photos taken next morning after I couldn't find any parking. You can see how people's cars are parked everywhere. The van parked in 10 minute parking has been there 3 days)

So... I'm quick to praise and slow to complain, but this last Homewood experience is one that needs to be voiced... First the good - with only a single exception, the entire the staff are VERY friendly and professional, regardless of role - GREAT JOB! Also, the breakfast was quite good! i'm not a breakfast person, so i don't have much to compare it to, but that said, i found it quite tasty! Now the bad - the room was DISGUSTING... pillow smelled like doodoo, broken shower door handle, peeling wallpaper in many places in the bathroom, STICKY kitchen floor, multiple cigarette burns on the table, ripped/torn couch, couch and/or carpet smells heavily of BO, just really, really poor. i'd say that the daily cleaning staff likely do a good job (other than the sticky floor), but this room appeared to be way, WAY overdue for a complete remodel. if THIS is the way pet-friendly hotels typically present, then I am OUT! i won't even mention the EVER present smell of pot out in the parking lot… i will assume it's now legal in SC? AND THE ICING on the cake - you have to PAY FOR PARKING ($12/day) ??? BOO - SHAME ON YOU Hilton... It's not like the building is even CLOSE to a high volume/occupancy area like in downtown NYC, Philly, DC, Baltimore, etc... BOO! Never staying there again, and will likely stay at other lodging options from this point forward, particularly a shame after being a LOYAL Homewood customer for about the last 40 years as a frequent government and vacation traveler 😤

This hotel is FABULOUS!!! Clean, bright welcoming colors, lovely contemporary decor. The decor carried over into the modern and spacious room we reserved. The king bed and queen sized sofa-bed were absolutely comfortable, giving us some of the best nights of blissful slumber! Loved the big fluffy pillows, too. Our room had a nice TV, complete kitchenette with a full size fridge, microwave, dishwasher, electric stove. All inclusive of dishes, silverware, cookware, cooking utensils, toaster and pod coffee maker! The room was WONDERFUL and SPACIOUS and absolutely maximized the layout.

They have a hot breakfast buffet every morning, a Wednesday PM Social Hour with wine, hors d'oeuvres, and games. These culinary offerings are made sooo special by the lovely, caring ladies that prepare the delicious meals. Miss Carla M. is phenomenal and made us feel loved and just like family at every breakfast! The day wasn’t complete without a hug from Miss Carla M.! (Miss Karen was equally lovely and did the Wednesday Social Hour and weekend breakfasts.)

At the front desk we had Jamal who warmly welcomed us upon our late night arrival. He was super! Then for the week we stayed, we continued to get spoiled by Miss Vanessa (Manager), Dorsey (absolutely sooo kind whom I got to talk to, to set up the initial reservation and who absolutely floored me with the warmth conveyed over the phone), then we had Miss Carla B. who called us up in our rooms to tell us that snacks and bottled waters were available for us at the front desk. (Wow, just wow!!) Then we had the lovely Victoria with the sweetest southern voice who just emanated kindness and professionalism! We also had Diamond who treated us like the Diamond she is. Lastly we got to meet Mardel on our last night, manning the front desk; and he was just as awesome!

Finally, the amazing housekeepers who took care of us so wonderfully too—- Maribel, Rosa Maria, Dulce, Yenni and Jael. We can’t forget the equally amazing Timothy in engineering who greeted us with the most genuine smiles.
