Giving 2 stars is generous but I added a star bc of the woman who eventually helped us. Upon arrival a bit past 3, a Latino woman keyed a code into an upstairs room after we said "Lakeroom". We were happy for a moment. Left to catch supper but forgot something & went back finding out our door code doesn't work!! Panic set in as NOONE is around. There was an older woman with a cane, my husband helped find her room. So after he helped her, we found "Lakeroom" & voila, our code worked. But the split level did not, just blinked, room was an absolute oven & we have no luggage bc it's still in a room we have no access to. So another couple had arrived & they were sad bc someone was already in their room bc they found luggage! That was us & I hugged her bc we were able to retrieve our belongings. I assured her we hadn't used only the bathroom in their room. Back to the oven room, opened windows, no screens & call & call the after hours #. Back & forth, mind you, still no supper. We gave up, went to eat & came back to finally someone who could help us. She put us in Patty's room, a small room with the bathroom leading to the kitchen hallway. Very uncomfortable but at least it was cooler & a place to hang our hat for the night. This was our 3rd room! There was NO wifi, and the TV in Patty's room doesn't work. So needless to say my constitution could take NO more of this supposed relaxing break & we hopped the ferry with a VERY sour taste in our mouths from this place thinks giving folks door codes with ZERO customer service is gonna get you a good rating. Mind you, the place is pretty inside & breakfast was good but sorry you freaked us out but moving us into 3 flipping rooms.

The people who do not find this place at 5 stars are either unlucky or really critical. This place is what you expect a bed and breakfast to be. We stayed in the main building. It isn't a hotel. The rooms are all unique and the place is filled with antiques. The AC may not be the best but our room was plenty cool. The television didn't have a clear picture in our room but we weren't there to watch TV. There was a larger TV in the living area that had a roku if anyone had to see something. Breakfast at 8am was superb and Marta was kind and kept up with the crowd. Fresh baked fig cake was a treat one morning. There is now a code entry to the rooms as there is no staff there after a certain time of the day to handle check in. This worked seamlessly for us. We are aware that another couple had a little trouble getting into their room but it didn't take long for them to get in. Maybe they had the wrong number or didn't follow instruction. The place is a really big house and it feels like home. You can roam around as you like and enjoy the pictures and neat furniture. And the gardens and pool are beautiful. There's a view of the Marina. Ice machine off kitchen area with water. Don't miss out. This is a historic building and has a lot of character and history on Ocracoke. We stayed in Ginny's room. We picked it based on it's vicinity to the screen porch which we sat on quite frequently. It is one of the smaller rooms but still plenty of space.

This place was lovely! We have been coming to the island for the last 18 years and always rent a house for the week in the fall. My husband and myself wanted a little time away, without our grown daughters and dogs, so chose the Castle. Check in was flawless. Walked straight to our room, and everywhere else in the house, as I had looked at the floor plan on the website. Neat! Our room was in the front of the house on the first floor (Mary’s) and was very warm. It was better once we realized there was a vent under the bed covered up by the area rug! Also, the couple across the hall gave us a big fan that was in their room. So nice! The breakfast each morning was very good and the cook was a very nice lady. Having the bikes to grab and go was a nice touch as we normally rent them for the week. We didn’t get a golf cart since we were there only a few days, but there is dedicated parking for them. We would definitely stay here again!

ATTENTION: I have waited and waited, nobody has got back with me. I feel so scammed it's not even funny! I have included every single detail. 03/30 Made reservation Check in- 04/09/2021Check out- 11th 04/07/2021 Advisory Start 04/12/2021 Operation Resumes 04/09 Called to ask what ferry to take 1:30pm 7:00pm realized Ferry was closed called 5 times 04/09 1:30pm call: explained I am coming from 6 hours out, I'll be arriving around 12:00am. Asked if that was okay, and asked what Ferry would be best since I'm driving. Women on the phone said arriving late was fine, they had 3 ferry's recommended I take "whichever one was best for me" just to make it to the ferry before 12.

04/09 7:00pm- about 2 hours of driving. I review my reservation and click on the link THEY SENT for ferry information. First thing I see on the website is a weather Advisory. Both vehicle transportation Ferrys are shut down till Monday April 12th. This advisory started April 7th. The advisory states any Ferrys traveling the pamlico sound are suspended for increased sand bed levels. The sand is to high for boats to make it through. 2 ferrys are for vehicles and one is for just people. I start to get panicked. I call the B&B....no answer. I call 3 times within an hour and leave 2 VM. I call the department of transportation I ask the lady on the phone if there is any other way I can get over, I explain I need to take a ferry with my vehicle, she explains there is no way possible. She tells me to call the ferry harbor incase anything has changed. I call them 4 times and get no answer. NOBODY IS THERE BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOSED! I try calling the B&B AGAIN, nothing, I try the # on there website (instead of the phone # on my reservation which I've been calling) the # on the website doesnt even work. I dig some more on the internet and find a 800# for them, that # is out of service too. I submit a "contact now" submission on there website w/ my info, I send them an email all before 9:00pm NOTHING. Fast FWD: Sat the 10th, Sunday the 11th I call them 4 more times off my phone and leave a VM. My husbands starting to get super annoyed and starts calling them over and over again. We leave a VM x2 for them, then we go to the "employee directory " we choose 3 employees and leave a VM. *one of them was the manager of the Castle and 2 or 3 other hotels. Left.a.vm. I still havent heard back from anyone.

I would like to mention the fact that I was very pleasant in the voicemails, I didnt cuss, shout, or have a nasty attitude. Shocking right? In my first 2 on Friday I was holding back tears and explained I needed help from someone desperately as I was on the way, and found out Ferrys are not operating. I didnt know what to do and I needed some help to please call me back. The 2nd one was the same and I told them I was begging them to get back with me, I just needed help finding a way to get there as I am still driving, but it looks like all Ferrys might be closed. I feel like I was absolutely scammed! I am a property manager for a very large company. I couldnt imagine not calling one of my renters back, especially one so upset just wanting help from someone. I couldnt sleep at night if I did that. The fact that they are open and blatantly ignoring me is messed up. OUT OF ALLLL OF THIS, 1 thing that really sets me off; This "shut down" started April 7th a WED and was publicly announced to last till Monday the 12th. The hotel didnt reach out to any guests. I called on the 9th and ASKED: what Ferry is the best for me to get to you? I'm driving and will need Ferry for Veichle transport, is there one you recommend that's closest? I have a 6 hour trip to you guys. THAT WAS THE MOMENT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD "SORRY, THE FERRY'S ARE NOT OPERATING TILL MONDAY, ILL HAVE TO REVERSE YOUR RESERVATION YOU PAID $400.00 FOR MA'AM IM SO SORRY" They scammed me, and knew they gave me misleading information, they will not even reach out to me. I think reviews left on...
