Our original accommodation was completely unacceptable, but this was addressed. There was a double and two twins. Each mattress worse than the other..very old, thin and very stained. Even the covers for the box springs completely stained on the outside. The room with a double had no a/c and there was no way the window unit air would make its way into this room. The old maple dresser was poorly painted over and the drawers were askew and falling out. It looked like something that would be refused from a community yard sale. I tried to look past the issues, but when I pulled the blanket down on the bed and saw clean sheets with cigarette holes, I could not continue. Graciously, we were given an alternative room in the loft. This was a 2 bedroom unit with small kitchen area with a table, microwave and fridge. It was a very nice size. The doubles in one bedroom had old mattresses, but the sheets were new, white and fresh. The other room had a what appeared to be a new mattress and box spring. Each room had a window a/c. While a complete step up from the first unit, the unit still needs some TLC. The cost for the Nepture is in the same range as a prime properties in Portland and more than Ogunquit. I don't mind older furniture nor do I need things to be perfectly matched. Eclectic mixes from different eras are totally fine and very cool, but they do need to be cared for. The Neptune gives the impression of a tired, old and used up property. There are hints that Alouette is working on breathing some life back into the place, but regretfully, there's a...
Read moreMediocre accomodations at best. Main room had a trundle day bed for seating and a kitchen table. It had a ceiling fan and a/c. Bedroom had no fan/ no ac. Sure am glad it wasn't a heat wave when we stayed. We were happy that there weren't more than 2 other rooms occupied because that meant it was quiet for us. But when the train goes by, less than 20 feet from the back door, every 3 hours, it's LOUD. Like crazy booming loud. In the middle of the night. Don't try to talk to the reservation gentleman, he interrupts you at every chance. Which was rude and annoying (don't know his name, curly haired man). I wouldn't go back there again-- no way, no how. I can't believe the price I paid for a room that felt like it was on the railroad tracks without even a fan in the room. In July. The only reason I gave it even a 3 was because the cleaning lady, Susan, did an amazing job of picking up our room. We were supposed to be there for 3 nights but had car trouble and had to stay somewhere else the first night. We then had to get the car fixed the next day and didn't actually get there until 7 at night. So they got quite the $$ for an empty room. We dumped our stuff and went to the beach the one day that we could. When we came back, Susan had cleaned everything all up, unpacked (which actually wasn't necessary since we had to check out the next day), and made the place look great. That's the only redeeming thing that I could figure. There are plenty of close accomdations to the beach. Stay on the even side of the room-- don't stay on the...
Read moreRented 2 rooms at this hotel for myself and other family members. I can only describe it as somewhat slum like. Smelled of cigarette smoke. Seriously in need of paint and other repairs. Doors and walls chipped. Exterior doors very thin and chipped. Felt less than safe. One thin curtain not wide enough to cover window in bedroom. Strange waxy substance that scrubbed off bathroom sink. Glad I brought disinfectant wipes.. Other than that it appeared that the housekeepers tried to clean inside. Flooring in front of exterior door had significant debris in front of it. Should have been cleaned up for guests. Train tracks less than 20 feet from back (bedroom) door. Person who rented me rooms said that she has never heard complaints about it. I counted no less than 4 times during night that the train whistle woke me. Only plus was that the beds were clean and mattresses seemed new. I don't believe I've ever written a hotel review before, but wanted to warn others. If I had paid "cheap" hotel pricing, I would not complain. However, I have paid pretty much the same to stay at a beach view hotel in...
