We stayed at the Abellona for 5 nights. The hotel was clean and well kept up, the staff were always out and about keeping the grounds tidy and trying to keep the sand at bay, they were all pleasant and friendly. We stayed in an oceanfront room with a kitchenette, which was helpful in saving a bit of money rather than eating out every meal. There is a nice grocery store just a short drive away, Landry's. The room had enough basics to get by, pots and pans, dishes, cups and cutlery, a wine opener, one cup coffee maker, soap and sponge to take care of your dishes. They also have grills, which we used once to cook steaks. The pool was very nice, warm, clean, and has an actual deep end. It wasn't crowded, we were the only ones swimming moat of the time. The location is convenient, you can walk to the pier and the shops, or you can pay to park closer, but it's only like a half mile, so doable as long as you don't have very small kids that don't like walking far. The beach was literally steps away from our door, and it was nice and clean as well, they take the beachcomber out and pick up the seaweed from high tide in the morning. They have a broom for keeping the sand at bay in the room, which is helpful. Housekeeping will come in and do a quick tidy and leave fresh towels daily if you don't have your do not disturb sign up. You are responsible for your own dishes, which is something to keep in mind when using them for the first time. All the appliances worked fine and got the job done. The only thing that would have made it a perfect room, would be a small heater for the bathroom, just because my kiddo likes to be warm when he gets done bathing, but that's probably not an issue during the peak of summer... also a small portable clothes rack would be a nice touch for wet bathing suits and such. Maybe an interior door mat as well to keep the sand contained. None of those things are necessities, and the room was still great overall. I would recommend the hotel to friends, and I would stay there again if I were to return to Old Orchard. I would generally ignore all the bad reviews on here and just assume it was people who got called out for acting foolish or not following the rules. I personally appreciated the quiet, smoke-free environment, and I can't think of one negative thing to say about the Abellona or...
Read moreOur first time visiting Maine. Made phone reservations. Said we would get confirmation on email. Never did. Called back, he said he must have hit the wrong button and deleted us, but did get us a second story room and sent us the email confirmation. We arrived and got our key and went to open the door to our room and there was someone sleeping on the bed. Oops!! Sorry sir.....at least the guy was really cool about it. Went back to desk, told the clerk about it, and got another key for another room, only to have someone in that room as well. Not very happy at this point. Went to desk, had the clerk go to the third room herself to check and make sure it wasn't occupied....and this was a ground floor room which was not what we had requested. At this point, the clerk said we would have to wait until the next day and speak with her father who would be at the desk. We started unpacking and noticed there was a drill, joint compound, and chunks of sheetrock in the sink. The clerk did come clean this up after we called. The next day we went to see if the owner could correct this unfortunate situation so we could all be happy, but the only thing he could do was change us to an upstairs room if we wanted to pack up and move. The room was nice, clean, and had a beautiful view of the ocean. That is my 1 star rating. The clerks blamed each other, saying it had been a busy summer, they had to change rooms around at the last minute, and that they make mistakes too. Well, mistakes can be corrected......so we won't make the mistake of staying there again. And the guy that was sleeping in our first room said they gave him the wrong key the day before and he opened the door with someone in the...
Read moreI wish I could rate this 20 out of 5.|After my girlfriend and I had some pretty crappy experiences in recent weeks, with lodging in general, especially when looking for a place with a hot tub, we found this one, and immediately booked it!|We booked a room with a hot tub (which did NOT disappoint), however, our ONLY complaints about the room were that the beds could use a little more support (if I recall correctly, it was a rudimentary structure which slid when one sat on it from an angle) and different mattresses, and we really struggled getting a WiFi signal, for more than 10 seconds.|I chalked this up to an opportunity to unplug, but it was still very irritating! Upon checkout, the staff was very genuine and said they’d look into it.|We knew it was a sacrifice to have a jacuzzi room (which was lower level) than to have an oceanfront room (and by oceanfront I mean, less than 20 steps to the shoreline! AMAZING?)|Needless to say, we hope there will be MANY, MANY more visits to this amazing destination, regardless of which room we are in!||Big note, folks: I’m sure the rest of the lodging on this street have their perks, but this one blows them all out of the water (no pun intended)!|I even inquired about peak-season rates, and I was delightfully surprised to hear the rates don’t even go up a significant amount, and are worth every penny!||This place is amazing, and we can’t wait...
