Sophistication thy not my name. Functionality, maybe.
Rodeway Inn was our hotel for 2 nights during our visit to Page, Arizona. I was traveling in a group of five, with my wife and my in-laws and we had two rooms during the course of our stay. Let me first enumerate a few of the advantages of Rodeway Inn. As they say in the context of retail, what matters is location, location, location. From that stand-point Rodeway Inn had an excellent location. We toured three scenic spots during our visit here - Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell and the hotel was conveniently located to all three sites. I suppose this is true of many of the lodging options in Page but it is certainly true for the Rodeway Inn. Besides these scenic spots, the hotel was also conveniently located next to an ATM, a gas station, and a Chinese buffet restaurant - all of which we utilized once during our stay in Page. The hotel offers a free breakfast. Unlike some other places where the free breakfast is limited to two people per room, this was available to all hotel residents. Although it is far from extravagant, it gets the basics right. There is coffee, juice, milk, oatmeal, cereals, yogurt among the more healthy options and eggs and sausage among the more hearty options. There is also a waffle maker and that is popular among hungry breakfast-seekers. I found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. Although there was no iron in the rooms, I requested one and was provided one. Our in-laws requested extra towels and that request was also met. Lastly, the rooms come equipped with a fridge and microwave and those were helpful during our 2-day stay.
OK, so let me get to some of the downsides of what seems like a decent hotel. Essentially what it boils down to is the fact that it is a budget hotel where the owner seems to cut down on costs whenever and wherever possible. That manifests itself in a variety of ways such as the carpet in our room which was in a bad enough state that I did not want to necessarily step on the floor with my bare feet if possible. The shower in both of our rooms was such that for all five of us experienced variability in the water temperature as we were showering. My wife even initially complained that this was because I was shaving but it turns out that the variability in water temperature had nothing to do with the use of the sink outside the bathroom. Similarly, the battery in the smoke detector in one of our rooms was out and therefore, as a stop-gap arrangement, the staff removed it altogether. Granted we checked in around midnight and replacing the battery may have been a hassle, but then smoke detectors shouldn't get to the point where they are still in the rooms and their batteries run out. Lastly, there were too few electrical outlets in the room, much to the consternation of members in my party who were carrying multiple devices with them and had to keep them charged ahead of a big day of sightseeing. The staff were however friendly and upon our request, they provided us with an extension socket which was very useful.
So all in all, if I am on a budget, I would not mind staying at the Rodeway Inn again during a future visit. However, if I did not mind shelling out an extra few bucks, I would consider staying at a hotel with a few more frills and perhaps, a slightly less cost-conscious...
Read moreOne of the worst hotel experiences of my life. I called around 9 pm to make a reservation for two adults, two beds, one being my senior grandfather who is disabled. The man on the phone gave me no trouble, but did take down my card information to save us a room. Now keep in mind he specifically said "I need your information so we can make sure to NOT give your room to someone else." We drive about 3 more hours to get there, as I had told him we would. When I arrive, it's around 12 am, the lobby is closed but they have a ring camera installed. A woman answers and at first she claims she cancelled our reservations at 10 pm and then vehemently denied I had ever even made any reservation in the first place. She said there were no vacancies as she had GIVEN our room away. I tell her the situation and she keeps denying there is a reservation under my name, and hung up on me. So there we were, me a 20 year old female, and my 87 year old grandfather searching for a place to stay at 12, to avoid sleeping in our car. I had a tour to Antelope Canyon at 8:15 in the morning, so by the time we managed to find a place to sleep it was already 2 am (I only got 3 hours of sleep). I called back the following day and spoke to the same man to find out if they had misspelled my name or something, but no, he claims there was a reservation and apologized for the woman's horriable behavior. I don't know your name, ma'am, but if you are reading this, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. You left a disabled veteran in the middle of nowhere and then lied about it. I have had bad experiences before, but I mean it when I say you ABSOLUTELY deserve to be fired. You are a terrible person, and I don't know how you sleep at night. I would love to speak to your manager as soon as they return from out of town. You should never work customer service and I don't even know how you were ever hired with that horrendous attitude. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I cannot stress enough that any potential customers should not come to this location ever, unless you want them to give your room away, which according to many of the other reviews, are also terrible. Avoid these guys like the plague, you're much better giving your money to somewhere like the Super 8 or...
Read moreI usually do not write reviews but my experience with this hotel was different and unusual from other travel experiences. While on a road trip with my girlfriend through Arizona and Utah, I booked this particular hotel last minute online on my phone. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no one at the front desk and no instructions on contacting someone. It wasn't until a few minutes later we realized there was a Kiosk nearby which had a video picture of a woman with a name tag and we assumed it may have been an advertisement or something. But after seeing the woman on the screen it dawned on me that this woman was working from home, wherever that maybe, because I heard her kids screaming in the background. Then when I acknowledged her by standing in front of the Kiosk, she replied back and was shocked to see how this hotel was operating with a check in and out service being remote. The woman was polite but hard to understand with her accent and language barrier and also with her kids and noise in background and muffled microphone. She was able to help us check in and the key cards were printed but only one worked. The hotel was old and worn down. However, it was clean and we appreciated that the most. The faucet to the shower was also on backwards and cold was hot and hot was cold and you almost had to have the faucet off in order to get any hot water. And no fault of the hotel but the city of Page had no places to dine and eat after 830pm as everything closed. The Mexican Restaurant close by was open until 10pm and was very nice and convenient. We didn't try the wifi but noticed the server to connect to was with the name Test1 which made me believe they did not have any knowledge in technology of at least changing the name of their modem. We didn't even bother to stick around to see how the breakfast was in the morning that was offered. Anyhow, overall we just needed a place to sleep for the night and shower and was clean. It passed those 3 important features at least. For the price, I was very disappointed as we stayed in much nicer hotels for...
