Originally designed for workers constructing the dam, this ex-Motel oozes the charm of the late fifties. The dirty carpets, peeling lampshades, rocky sewer pipe on the toilet, the antique sink with no stopper all echo a past age though its large blue new sign dominating the road is definitely modern and should attract the unwary. Not designed for computers you might want to take a small table with you if you are planning as I was to work on your computer. Internet connection is sporadic and slow. “We have problems with reception,” I was told. If wonder if that’s true for all the hotels close by ? They installed a powerful loud fan in the bathroom wired into the light so that to escape the noise switching it off is a considerable relief. A good way to keep the electricity bill low. If you make the mistake of staying two nights there is no room service the second day. Make your own bed and clean the bathroom yourself. Outside our room was a beautiful flowering yellow broom. Half of it was dead because it hadn’t been pruned but the fir trees and the junipers were in excellent condition and in a much better state than the hotel itself. Do not arrive before 4 pm because the front office will be locked. The young man and young woman manning the front desk were I assume examples of the Page Educational system. Nothing wrong with dyed hair or neck chains and tattoos. Rather quaint in fact. When I pointed to the misspelling of “towles” on the booking slip, the young man laughed. “You don’t care do you?” I joked. “Noooo.” Yesterday’s local paper is available. There’s no breakfast but the fridge and coffee maker in the room worked. You park where you can. Some nice Canadian bikers looking as they always do quite fearsome in their “leathers”, were parked just outside. There are fifty rooms all told so I trust the owner makes a tidy profit given absolutely minimal expenditure. Keeping the pool clean might be a problem but I am sure there are economies to be made. A memorable experience. I had to agree with a number of the negative reviews and just assume those writing positive ones were in the less dilapidated rooms. After all it’s now called a “Hotel” . It was interesting and who wants the boredom of a modern well run clean hotel with facilities and breakfast and...
Read moreYeah. I don’t know. I don’t like giving bad reviews, especially when the price was affordable, and I know not to expect Buckingham Palace, and it worked for my large family and parent-in-law, but this place is newly remodeled and some of the work isn’t complete. And the problem with this is that things get in when it’s the desert and it rains. Let me continue and explain.
We got a double room with four beds, two TVs, a fridge, two bathrooms. Pretty okay. Tub in one room was kind of grungy and missing the drain cover so the pipe was visible. Shower head was old. No vent in the bathroom. Everything else was pretty okay. One thing I noticed was that the door for the other room didn’t have a door sweep at the bottom. I didn’t think about this until later.
First night was fine. Check-in was good. Key was left at the office, so we just went in. Second night though—it rained earlier in the day and the first thing we noticed were the ants. There were some black ants crossing between the doorway between the rooms. No one at the office answered the call.
A little later though my kids woke up screaming because there was a spider on one of their pillows. Maybe two quarters side by side big. I have a picture, and I kind of don’t want to know what it is (Arizona Recluse???). I probably should put more blame on the hotel for not installing the sweep, but 1. It had rained earlier. 2. We’re in the desert. 3. I didn’t pay a whole lot for the room. I’m just glad nothing happened.
Another downside is the place kind of looks like a prison when you drive up. There’s not many windows for the rooms, but during the day, it didn’t look too bad since the windows are really sliding glass doors in the front.
Location is pretty great, close to Horseshoe Bend and Glen Canyon dam and Lake Powell. Good food within walking distance (get Margaritas at Fiesta!). I didn’t like that the family rooms are in the back and that people can walk through the lot, but again I didn’t pay a high price, so it’s cool. No events involving people.
Anyway, make sure you get a room with...
Read moreI'm giving five stars because I'm pleasantly surprised at what we're getting for the price. Originally, we booked a two queen beds room. We needed to change the date. They did it quickly with zero hassle, although the queens weren't available for the night we switched to so we had to switch to a two double beds room. The room is simple and clean. The mattresses are encased. The bathroom is clean. There are some older furnishings, but they're fine. The most exciting part was entering our room, room 12, opening the door and seeing playground equipment perfect for our seven year old right outside the glass slider door. The glass door has a rod locking mechanism for added safety. The pool looks like it needs attention and it's closed and locked tonight, July 17, 2021 but if it were ready for use, I'm impressed there's a handicapped lift to allow more people to use it. The courtyard is pleasant too. In addition to the play equipment, there's seating outside most rooms and multiple other seating areas around the courtyard. Not the place for you if you're going to nit pick every detail, but if what matters to you is clean, comfortable bed and room, hot shower, and price, especially if you have play set aged children or you enjoy the a pleasant courtyard, it may be the right place for you. Amenities include AC, mini fridge, microwave, individual coffee machine, alarm clock, power on lamp for electronics, blow dryer, shampoo/conditioner all in one, soap, tissues. There's a hanging rack with hangers, a fold out luggage rack, and a TV with...
