I'm a timeshare owner at The Carriage House. My father in law gave the timeshare to my wife and I about 15 years ago. I'm staying in a updated 1 bedroom. Compared to other timesshares the building is small.
Here are the pros and cons, the pros, there never is a resort fee or a parking fee to me that is huge, some of these places have just gotten outrageous with their fees. The timeshare location is between Planet Hollywood and MGM, Planet Hollywood is directly across the street, MGM is about 3 blocks away. I love the fact that I can park in the back of the building right next to the entrance. The elevator is about 30 feet from the entrance on either side. I always ask for a room close to the elevator. There is no Casino and I like that, it's nice getting away from all the noise and smoke. My room is a one-bedroom condominium. But I qualify to get a lockout, which is basically two Studio rooms separated by a door. I used to get this room when my kids were small or we travel with another couple. It has a swimming pool just steps from the front door, it's small compared to Resorts, but it's well taken care of. They do have a tennis court but I've never seen anybody play tennis, I'm always here during the summer, too hot.
We have a one-bedroom condominium with a full kitchen. I always bring food and drinks. We never go out to breakfast, it's just too easy to make it here and you save a lot of money. When the kids were small we would also make dinner, it was just easier to get them fed and like I said, saved a whole bunch of money. The carriage house has a concierge service, you can buy Las Vegas shows, trips to the Grand Canyon, practically anything you want to do in Vegas they can help you out with it. Stay here, try it out and if you are interested people are reselling their timeshares for practically nothing. Once you're a owner, you can pay a fee and trade it for other timeshares around the world. I have even traded it here in Las Vegas as an example, I traded for Tahiti Village, because they have a enormous current pool and other awesome pools. You can try to get Hawaii, but if you're picky and want to stay at a Marriott, it may take a couple years, there other timeshares you can easily get if you're not so picky.
Now the cons, I really don't have too many. If you to have a casino downstairs from your room, then stay at a resort. The gym is very tiny only a couple of cardio machines and a few dumbbells. Many years ago they had a restaurant on the top floor, that no longer exist. Everybody in this building either has a kitchenette or full kitchen, in my opinion that is why I don't think the restaurant did very well, and closed. There's only a small little area to buy things for your room next to the lobby...
Read moreFat receptionist did not greet or try to smile upon check-in. Nobody explained about the "sofa bed" up against the wall - that we had to move two heavy coffee tables and a sofa in order to make room for the bed before we can lower it. I asked the Asian receptionist and she explained with a smile what to do and that they did not lower it for us because people do not typically need that (? !). Well, you did know it was three of us coming to your hotel, you should have prepared better! Also, they give you a card you have to carry everywhere. You can't enter the lobby or use the elevator without it. I understand it is for our safety but these cards are far from perfect. Ours stopped working after the first night, so they had to give us new ones. The receptionists could be more polite in general. All they do feels fake, like they do not want to do this job. If that is the case, management should think of incentives for their staff and how to motivate them to be genuinely kind and courteous to the guests. Maybe someone breathes down their neck all the time or they are underpaid. They just look unhappy working there. Overall, outdated decor, ugly interior colors, terribly noisy A/C - I believe the one in room 316 is not working properly. Sheer curtains too dark - if you let them down during the day, it is too dark, if you remove them - they can see you from the tall Signature towers across. I am glad we came for the weekend as our rooms are in the corridor currently being renovated. I miss not having a bar or restaurant onsite - big inconvenience in Vegas with the huge walking distances, having to cross streets etc. It is unlikely we will return to this place, especially during the hotter months, mainly because of...
Read moreGreat location to the strip and the MGM Grand Arena and conference centre. If you are there for an event it's less than a 5 minute walk to the arena and probably a 5-10 minute walk to the new conference building. The pool gets the sun during certain times only (morning and lunch time I think) but not in the afternoon so tanning needs to be planned. We left the sign on the door that our room didn't need cleaning and housekeeping kindly called us every day acknowledging the sign but wanted to check if we needed anything. We also liked that we didn't have to pay any extras like resort fees and what other hotels charge you. They also have a laundry room on the 9th floor which we didn't make use of but good facility to have. They also have recycling there so you can throw away your recyclable trash at any time. The kitchenette had everything you need apart from a pair of scissors. We didn't make use of the coffee machine, hob, or toaster but it's there. Fridge is decently sized. Shower and toilet are separate from the sink which is nice for when people have to get ready. Wi-Fi was available as well and you get a code when checking in. The Wi-Fi wasn't super fast but it's enough for those who are patient. When you check-in and you have a car with you, they provide you with a parking permit that you need to leave in the car. Inconvenient for when you forget to leave the slip out overnight. It would be easier for the guests to leave the registration plate details with the hotel so that they can check it that way. If you forget to leave the slip you...
