after long morning of walking, finding Federal Donuts open with some seats open was the welcome sign i needed. the coffee is served hot which was much needed on a a particularly cold winter day. paired that coffee with an old fashioned glazed doughnut. the coffee was standard good coffee, fresh drip coffee is always a win in my book. the doughnut had the right amount of sweetness and softness without being saccharine or mushy. the space is very clean and neat. there's seatings for groups as well as these old school classroom type seats for solos. the vibe by staff was friendly and welcoming. doughnut + coffee + being off my feet for 15 minutes was just what i needed to recharge for exploring the vastness of Philadelphia.

stopped by this spot for breakfast, and had a great visit. the staff were super friendly. they had a buy one, get one promo on their breakfast sandwich, which was an unexpected plus. the sandwich itself was solid: the egg was thick and stayed moist and not overcooked, there was a nice layer of melty cheese, and the peppers gave it just the right amount of spice and flavor. the bacon was crispy. they even gave me some free donut holes, which was also a nice surprise. i got an iced viet coffee too, and it was spot on, not too sweet, with a good, strong coffee flavor. definitely a place i would come back to.

A solid experience from my perspective. I probably benefited from their being a local chain as I needed a place that opened before 8am, and most other coffee/doughnut shops within walking distance (I’m game to walk fairly far) didn’t open until 8 on Sundays. The wait was short, and the staff were very nice to my drowsy self. I got the chocolate truffle and s’mores donuts with a 12oz mocha and all of it was money well spent. I’ll likely return during the remainder of my time here.

So after hearing so much about Federal Donuts I decided to try it for the very first time at this location (I'm sure I'm the only person in the planet who hasn't had this before, I understand it's pretty popular). Anyways, I ordered ahead online to not be late for work, when I get there however, there are two people in line ahead of me, no problem. I wait for my turn to retrieve my order, I will add that the two customers ahead of me were white I'm obviously black, you'll understand later. Anyways, there was a slight delay preparing the customers orders who were ahead of me (idk y they only ordered a dozen donuts each) but the employee was beyond apologetic to them. She apologized for the wait several times to them as they stood there while she got their donuts and again after providing their order. My turn now, I get to the counter to pick up my order, there's an issue. The employee tells me what I ordered wasn't available (after already waiting 15 minutes in line at this point), I said I provided my phone number during the ordering process so I asked if this couldn't have been communicated ahead of my arrival and waiting forever watching her be extremely apologetic to the customers ahead of me, she's like 'u want me to cancel it', no apology for the wait, nothing for me just basically get out the store we don't have what you want. I'll cancel it for you. Gee thx!

I was beyond disgusted at the treatment I received, I didn't even mind that they didn't have my items or the wait, but no apology after watching her bend over backwards accommodating the customers ahead of me who weren't even slightly inconvenienced but for me the person who was -nada. It's really sad how hotel employees cater to different people because of surveys, but we also do surveys/reviews.

If I could provide any useful feedback I would suggest having a pick up counter so customers who order ahead can retrieve their order without having to wait on customers now placing their orders. Also, if the items are not available, please communicate to customers ahead of arrival so we are not wasting endless time in the morning when trying to get to work. This location serves more than hotel guests and this transaction this morning made me late for work not to mention a terrible...

This location closes at 6 pm and they were already out of wings at 2:45 pm. I was extremely disappointed especially because of the fact that I was in the mood for wings. I was hungry after arriving into Philly via Amtrak and didn't feel like venturing elsewhere for food so I opted for their chicken sandwich, $8 ($9.50 with tax). I opened the wrapper and the sandwich was so small, the bun was cold as if they just pulled it out of the fridge and the American cheese wasn't even melted. Seriously a waste of almost $10 a small chicken sandwich that comes with no side. I would've gotten a way better and more satisfying sandwich from Chic-Fil-A or Wawa. I Googled "The best fried chicken in Philly" weeks ago since I knew I was visiting and Federal Donuts is supposed to be their claim to fame. Really??? Seriously not...
