Rian rain go away.... But, even though the rain kept coming, Kaitlyn P kept us moving and tasting food throughout the over 2 hour tour. We met on the corner of 16th and Chestnut, where Kaitlyn P gave us some info about the area and some housekeeping info. We grabbed our coats and umbrellas (for those that had) and walked down 16th to our first stop Joe's Pizza an old world Sicilian pizzeria. I thought she was going to tell me that Philly Pizza is terrific, but (not bad in general). Instead, we had tomato pie. Something I would never have ordered in the past as I am a cheese lover. I was impressed with the simple flavor and style. We sat for a bit, and Kaitlyn P went on with sharing her knowledge of the history of Joe's Pizza and the story about how the family came to the US and started this traditional pie. With the history of the building and area. we moved on to the Philly Prezel shop, where we tried a local favorite, the Philly Prezel, warm and tasty. with lots of info on the history. Followed by a walk to city hall and standing in the rain were given lots of info on the building, area, and history. followed by a stop for a cheesesteak sampling and off to Reading terminal where Kaitlyn brought us to 2 dessert places and taked about the story of the terminal with info on the shops and her favs. It was a wonderful time, and I would not have noticed it was raining with all the energy from Kaitlyn P other than we were a little damp. Make your way to Philly and ask for Kaitlyn P on...
Read moreI had the pleasure of attending a Thursday food tour with Johnny, a passionate and personable gastronome and proud Philadelphian, where the delightful walk around center city provided the perfect balance of history, food, and curiosity; the tour leaned towards bread-heavy options so be cautious if you do have gluten allergies. The iconic cheesesteaks and whiz fries fell a bit short of expectations, but was a great example of the classic Philly staple. The tour especially made up for it with a scrumptious highlight—the Philly take on tomato pie, which was absolutely delightful, with its yummy, nice, and crisp crust and a well-balanced tomato flavor that was not too acidic. Additionally, I couldn't resist indulging in the glazed donuts from Reading Terminal Market, which were a true delight and unique which them having a more chewy texture. If I had to change one thing about this tour, it would be to schedule it a bit earlier, around 11:30 or 12pm, to allow more time to explore the city, grab a bite to eat afterwards, or even attend another museum or attraction. Overall I would highly recommend this tour! I think it’s well priced and of value. Don’t forget to ask your tour guides for some food suggestions while you...
Read moreI'll start with the positive... We had a great time on the Ethnic Eats tour. Our tour guide, Eric, was full of knowledge and told some very interesting stories about the city. The food was yummy and it was a neat opportunity to get to tour a Buddhist temple and the Asian market. Now for the negative... it was a struggle to actually get a tour scheduled that wasn't cancelled. Over 2 months, we tried scheduling multiple tours that would ultimately end up getting cancelled. This happened 3 times. In the end, we had to settle for our second choice for the food tour since the hot and spicy tour was cancelled over and over. As someone coming from out of town specifically for this experience, it was extremely frustrating when we would be told that our tour was cancelled once again and we could just pick a different tour that weekend as if we didn't have any other commitments. I honestly started to feel like they didn't care about the customer since they already had the money in their pocket (we had received a gift certificate to use for the tour, which we were told had to be used this season). I'm just happy that we actually got to use the gift certificate. We were starting...
