A Small Roundup of Philadelphia Restaurants Part 3: Japanese & Korean Cuisine

We all agreed that our top 4 special rolls from this place were: 1) Sumo tempura roll (we ordered this rolls THREE TIMES!!) Spicy snow crab, salmon diced, avocado, jalapeno, cream cheese, seaweed on the outside, topped with Chef's masago sauce 2) Osaka roll Spicy yellowtail with jalapeno wrapped with mango, drizzled with Chef's sauce 3) Kobe roll Spicy scallop, avocado roll, topped with spicy salmon, bonito, garnished with scallion and drizzled with Chef's special sauce (We were a bit disappointed that we couldn't really taste much scallop part) 4) Cancun roll Smoked salmon skin, avocado, topped with spicy salmon & drizzled with Sriracha (I won’t recommend to order the “Pacific tuna tempura roll” & “Aki tempura roll” because the batter was too thick and the overall texture was heavy) We ordered most of the appetizers to try out, the only one that we didn't like was the "Fried Calamari" because it came out cold and a bit soggy and I believe that they probably fried ahead of time to serve. There are few appetizers that we really enjoyed from here as well: 1) Sashimi appetizer (highly recommend) Their sashimi was really fresh, but it's limited to order only one per person, so you must try one! 2) Chicken yakitori It was a really good grilled chicken dish without wet sauce on, the skin was a bit dry but the meat was tender. 3) Pork katsu We liked it for its really crispy skin with curry sauce on top! 4) Seaweed salad We liked its sweet & refreshing taste! 5) Vegetable tempura I believe vegetable tempura is the most easy way to distinguish whether it is a good or bad Japanese restaurants, so I always order this dish to determine if I will recommend the place or not. I really liked the batter was thin but wasn't as crispy as I imagined. 6) Chicken gyoza It was a chicken potstickers/fried dumplings dish with sweet soy sauce. The skin was not too thick, but not that outstanding. 7) Miso soup & Mixed green salad (good options to eat with rolls & sushi) Miso soup was not that too salty. Mixed green salad was served with sweet ginger dressings. Both dishes were okay, not that outstanding, but will be good side dishes to pair with the rolls & sushi. Overall, I highly recommend this place for All-you-can-eat sushi. This could be a good option for a dinner date for a couple or a group of friends. We will definitely come back again when we're craving for sushi/rolls with reasonable price!

Read this because I ignored the bad reviews of this place and went anyways thinking people were wrong and exaggerating about it lol. I always walked by the restaurant and they have a sign of “all you can eat” for a good price and it looked like a nice place so I went there to celebrate my wedding anniversary. When we got there, it took the host (that was also the waitress) over 10min to talk to us and put us in the table (and we had a reservation) so we and another people that also showed up was just waiting by the door (a line was forming), that was the first red flag and I should’ve go to another place. Anyways, when we were finally on the table, it took at least 20min for a waiter to come talk to us and give us water. They were definitely short staffed because the poor waiter attending us was also bartending, and there was a lot of tables and people at the bar. The guy was doing everything and barely spoke English so he was not understanding our order, I had to point things on the menu (not a problem to not speak English btw, I just needed to communicate with him and unfortunately we couldn’t because of language barrier). Finally, when we ordered (should I mention that we waited over 40min for the food?) we got very sour seaweed salad (something was wrong with it), rubbery and oily calamari and the picture below was our plate of sushi. Fish did not seem fresh and the rice was chewy, definitely not proper sushi rice or maybe made the wrong way. Do you see that candy green color sauce? I think that’s supposed to be wasabi, but I’ve never seen it on that color, so I just didn’t eat. The fried stuff was very doughy (lol) and oily. We left more than half on the plate because when we started to taste and see things inside we got worried that we’d get sick, plus it wasn’t tasty. At least me and my husband had a good laugh because it was a disaster dinner that you just laugh at the end because there’s nothing else to do lol. Well, I won’t be back there if that’s not clear! Hope this review can help a soul desperate for sushi like mine is lmao

I was really hoping to write a glowing review for this restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming. The food itself was decent, but the service left much to be desired.

Upon arrival, my party was promptly greeted by a host who informed us it would just be a moment before we were seated. This part of the experience was perfectly fine. However, while we were waiting, another server approached us, and we politely let him know we were already being helped. For some reason, he seemed offended by this and walked away with an attitude—unfortunately, this same server ended up being assigned to our table.

We were seated at 6:40 PM, but it wasn’t until 6:58 PM that our server came to take our order. With happy hour ending at 7:00 PM, it felt like he was deliberately delaying to time us out of the discount. To make matters worse, he messed up my order, and I didn’t feel comfortable addressing it because his attitude was consistently unfriendly. For instance, when I asked for directions to the restroom, he rolled his eyes and vaguely gestured in a general direction. Later, when I requested a side of rice, he ignored me initially but brought it out without any acknowledgment—his demeanor throughout the meal made it seem like basic communication was a chore.

There were several other issues during the service. He never checked on us during the meal, accidentally poured water into my friend’s soda glass, and then blamed my friend for the mistake. When it was time to leave, we waited an unnecessarily long time for the check because he still wasn’t attentive.

Overall, the food may have been fine, but the lackluster service completely overshadowed the meal. I hope this was just an off day for the server, but it left a poor impression that makes me...
