ONLY for the sake of hanging out in a hot tub- myself and three others decided to book ONE night at this hotel FOR $250 after the Michigan game this past Saturday. We could have easily driven home after the game as it was a day game and we only live a half hour away, but thought it would be fun and relaxing to spend some time in a hot tub. At no point in the week between booking and arriving, nor upon check-in were we informed that the hot tub was closed. If we were informed upon check-in, we would have gladly taken a refund and driven home to do what we did at this hotel- sit in a room and watch TV. As soon as we realized the hot tub was closed, we asked the man at the front desk if we'd be able to get a refund as that was the only reason we booked a hotel at all. He stated we needed to speak the manager who (conveniently) would not be there until the morning. Upon checking out the next morning, we kindly asked the manager for a DISCOUNT and explained to him that we would not have booked a hotel at all (let alone for $250 for one night) had we known the hot tub would be closed. He said "Unfortunately not. It's an event weekend". Apparently meaning that because they charged everyone double the normal price due to the Michigan game, that it is impossible to provide any discount i.e. charge us a normal, reasonable price for one night considering our situation. This man could have decided to give us a discount and we would have happily walked away and probably even returned due to his courtesy, but instead he decided to keep the extra money that would have put a very small dent in the approximately $31,500 they made in that one night (126 rooms x $250). I will be reporting this to the BBB as you cannot charge (and advertise) for amenities that you are not providing. Side note: when I asked the manager why we couldn't have been notified of the hot tub closure beforehand, he said "Well actually it was an emergency. You know what, the pump exploded on Friday". Which means we "couldn't" have been notified on Friday (while we still had free-cancellation) or during check-in at the very least, OR have been offered a discount or refund. Small tip: maybe keep an extra hot tub pump on-hand so you don't have to close the hot tub for six days. Aside from this huge disappointment, the hotel was very outdated, there were stains all over the lamp shades in the room, the TV was maybe a 40-inch, and the free breakfast was barely edible (not to mention breakfast area was about 5 times too small to have 100+ people trying to serve themselves breakfast). We will not be returning here ever, and we frequent Ann Arbor hotels...
Read moreWe were guests at the Bell Tower Hotel from July 5-7, 2024 during which time our pristine Honda CRV with only 1500 miles on the odometer, was parked in valet parking. We used our car once during our stay only to drive to the Graduate Student Housing dorm less than 2 miles away to pickup our grandson after which we immediately returned to the Bell Tower and the valet parked our vehicle in the parking structure next to the hotel. We did not see our vehicle again until we checked out the morning of 7/7/2024. Thereafter, we drove straight home to the Dayton, OH area and parked our vehicle in the garage.
When we opened the garage door the morning of 7/8/2024 and saw the car in the sunlight, we saw a gray, dusty-looking area on the front passenger side door. Unable to brush it off, we got some soap and water and washed what felt like a fine, gritty substance off the car. Underneath the grit was a significant scratched area and a slight indentation on the door. We contacted the Bell Tower immediately and left a message for the assistant general manager, Mike Naper. We eventually had the chance to talk to him and he told us that he talked to the two valets who had parked our CRV and they both denied having any issues in the parking structure (which interestingly has light gray cement pillars). He also said he talked to the GM and looking at the pictures we emailed to him, they concluded that the damage could not have been caused by the pillars in the parking structure. He also told us that since we did not notice the disguised damage until after we had driven home, it could have happened elsewhere. The bottom line was that they accepted no responsibility for the damage to our CRV despite the fact that it happened when our vehicle was in their possession. Mike Napper essentially accused us of being liars because we didn’t notice it until after we left the Bell Tower on July 7th. We are confident that had we tried to brush the gray, dusty-looking area off when the valet returned our vehicle to us, he would have said it could have been there when we arrived on July 5th! The Bell Tower never had any intent to accept responsibility for something that happened by one of its valets.
Ironically, we took our Honda CRV to two collision centers and they both told us that the damage to our vehicle was entirely consistent with it having hit something when it was being driven into a parking space where there...
Read moreOverall, the Regent was a good choice for my group. We were convening for a reunion and wanted a clean, well-located place that wasn't too pricey. In this respect, the Regent checked all of the boxes. As with any place there were good and bad things - but the good far outweighed the bad.||||First, the good - the rooms are large, clean (yay!), and well laid out. The noise level was very low, despite the place being pretty much sold out. The grounds are beautiful, kudos to the landscapers that keep it up. The inside of the hotel is OK, a bit dated but not awful by any means. The common areas were a big plus for our group - we hung out in the second floor game room quite a few times - lots of tables, chairs, and space between those there to sit and talk and those there to play pool or shuffleboard.||||In the "not so good" arena, we just had a few minor issues. First, it's great that there is breakfast included, but it was exactly the same food all three days we were there. It sure would be nice to have at least a bit of variety (maybe scrambled eggs instead of the omelettes, bacon instead of sausage, etc.). The quality of the food was OK - nothing to write home about but not terrible. The women working the breakfast area were wonderful - super friendly, always willing to help, and they kept things at the buffet and at the tables clean - ALWAYS. The air conditioner in our room was a little confusing - it worked fairly well to keep the room cool, but didn't seem to take the humidity out of the air very well. It was also very noisy when the high fan kicked in occasionally. My biggest issue were the beds. I have a very bad back, and both beds in our room were SOFT and provided little support. I was pretty miserable each morning for the first hour or so until I could loosen up. I'm not sure if the mattresses are old or are just a softer variety - but they didn't work well for me.||||So - would I stay at the Regent again? Yeah, I probably would, and I would ask in advance if there is such a thing as a harder mattress on property. I'd also probably eat breakfast out occasionally rather than eat the same thing every day. The employees were so welcoming and helpful and the cleanliness was so great that it definitely trumps...
