Hi! I’m Erin and I’m the owner and clinician at Solstice Natural Health. It’s time to reintroduce myself, along with my beliefs as a practitioner, and the personal reasons for why I went into this field. My own personal acupuncture adventure started after college when I sought help for my several anxiety disorder. Not only did acupuncture help my anxiety, but after a course of treatment over several months I also got relief from my chronic migraines and headaches. What a Win-Win!! Fast forward 8 years later, my husband and I decided to start a family. We were in our 30’s and both healthy, so imagine our shock when stopping birth control and keeping track of my ovulation didn’t work! Month after month my period showed up. I dug deep into reproductive medicine, hormones, nutrition, and the ways in which East Asian Medicine can help support fertility. I now have two amazing kiddos, and help others build their own families. After my own journeys, after 16 years in clinical practice, there are a few things I want you to know about the way I see health and my role in medicine. First of all, I believe in science. I believe in pharmaceuticals when they are indicated, and I believe in collaborating with people in other healthcare fields to help patients meet their goals. I believe that our bodies have an innate ability to heal, and that we can do things in our daily lives that can positively impact our health outcomes. I believe that birth control is a great tool, and while there can be alternative ways to treat many reproductive health conditions (including irregular periods related to PCOS and pain caused by endometriosis), you have the right to use hormonal birth control without being shamed. I believe that abortion is healthcare. I believe that what you eat impacts your health. I believe that patients should be listened to, and that your thoughts about your own health should be taken into consideration. No one knows your body like you do. I believe that everyone deserves healthcare without judgment. I believe in educating my patients about their bodies. I believe that there is always hope. #acupunctureportland #SolsticeNaturalHealth #fertilityacupuncture #pdx

My chiropractor recommended Erin from Solstice Natural Health without hesitation. She'd worked with Erin and said that she was the best for fertility. I was skeptical. How could somebody sticking me with needles make me ovulate? It seemed impossible.

My first visit with Erin was spent mostly talking. She asked a lot of questions and listened carefully to everything I said. My health was not great. My eating and exercise habits were...how do you say? Crappy. As a result, my blood sugar and BMI were too high. I was depressed and anxious but I wasn't even admitting it myself. I knew I needed help and support but didn't know where to begin.

I started seeing Erin once a week. In the beginning, I was tense during the acupuncture treatments. The needles didn't hurt like most people assume but just laying there with needles in me, I couldn't relax. I kept going anyway because I trusted Erin. She offered advice about nutrition and talked to me about balancing hormones and PCOS. She encouraged me to work with my primary care provider to have blood tests that would help rule out certain fertility issues.

Two months in, I started experiencing some unintended effects. I felt better. Stronger. I had more energy. I wasn't depressed and anxious and I was connected to my body in a way that I didn't ever remember being.

After four months of treatments including Erin's custom herb formulas, I started ovulating! I was ecstatic. For too long, I'd felt like my body was broken and that it was all my fault. Erin's ongoing treatments and support filled me with the energy I need to make better choices for my health and my body and those choices were paying off!

Six months in, Erin was taking my pulse prior to treatment, as she always does. She asked me what day I'd said I was in my cycle. I hadn't said but I was on day 32. She asked if I'd taken a pregnancy test which she'd never asked before.

I hadn't taken a test. I was too skeptical. When your hormones aren't balanced, your cycles are irregular. It was true that the previous two cycles had been exactly 28 days, but I wasn't hopeful. Several more days passed before I took Erin's advice. I couldn't believe that I was pregnant!!! I took three more tests to be sure. I emailed Erin immediately and asked how she knew. She told me that she suspected as soon as she felt my pulse. She knew before I did!

The OB/GYN I met with before I started acupuncture was awful. She dismissed me completely and only wanted to talk about drugs and c-sections. In hindsight, I should probably thank that terrible doctor because her disgust and disrespect served as a catalyst for me ending up exactly where I needed to be.

Now I'm 19 weeks into my pregnancy and feeling great. I know much of that has to do with the care and support I continue to receive from Erin. I'm overwhelmingly grateful and can't recommend Solstice Natural...

Erin has been a lifesaver for me and all my health issues. I had a baby in August and originally saw Erin for my breast milk production. Adjusting to motherhood was and still is a major challenge and Erin had advice on things that may or maynot work and she also informed me of certain mother networks I could get hooked up with in my area. After my cesarian it took a week before my milk even came in and after seeing Erin I went from pumping 2 ounces to pumping 4 ounces immediately after. About three weeks after my baby boy was born I ended up in the emergency room that turned out to be a new sciatic nerve issue and barely being able to walk. Right after seeing Erin I wasn't totally healed, and still am not totally healed 6 months later but there was instant relief of some of my pain. First time i felt I could get off the table and actually move like a normal person without a cane or walker. After seeing Erin I actually started carrying around my son without assistance. I'm still not totally normal yet but Erin helps me every two weeks. She also pays attention to the details of everything I've said about my pain from week to week. She'll ask questions about my week and issues we had discussed the week before, it is so nice to know that Erin truly cares about...

I reached out to Erin at Solstice Natural Health when my midwife recommended seeking acupuncture treatment to help flip my breech baby at 36 weeks pregnant. I was a skeptic at first, not understanding how acupuncture could help flip my baby around. But, for reasons I still can’t totally understand, he flipped that night after my first appointment with Erin!! It felt like a miracle!

Now I am days away from my due date and have visited Erin several times to help with sciatic nerve pain and other muscle soreness in my back. This treatment has been completely life changing and I wish I had considered acupuncture sooner in my pregnancy! I am more mobile and far more comfortable which means everything this far into pregnancy. I truly cannot comprehend the pain relief acupuncture has provided me.

Erin is also a lovely human and I really look forward to my appointments and our conversations. She is gentle and quick, and demonstrates great knowledge and skill. The studio is very clean and comfortable, with heated beds and blankets if you want! I am so happy I found her. If you are an acupuncture skeptic like I was, just take the leap! You...
