This place is a traditional speakeasy. The ambiance is very intimate and personal, complete with a dimly lit and darkly colored interior. Windows are non-existent, creating a gaslamp-type feel for the interior. It's a great place to go to meet up over drinks for business or to reconnect for a special occasion. Seating is limited, so during busy times, there is standing room only. Parking is available street side along the curbs. Even with the current construction in Midtown, access to this place and parking are easy to come across.
The drinks are fabulous and non-traditional. There were only two draft beer options to choose from, and I remember only two or three canned beer options. The liquor drinks, mixed and straight, have an artisan quality to them, as well as an artisan-level price, but are mostly enjoyable and an experience to tell tales about. The bar service wasn't spectacular - it was impersonal, in contrast to what I would expect from a smaller place like this, but after I place my order for a drink and my company arrived, I didn't require any service beyond that point, so it became a non-issue.
Overall, I love going to this place for a meet up for business or with long time friends I haven't seen for a while, but there are better, and less expensive, options for a casual place to enjoy happy hour or...
Read moreThe only cool thing about this place is the decor. I arrived with a friend and we ordered drinks on a tab I had started. I found a friend with his group of friends there and they had some open seating so we sat near them but they left and my friend and I stayed to enjoy our drinks. Not only was the bartender not the friendliest. When I asked him for his recommendation on a tequila or mezcal drink he just asked what I liked. âI had said anything with tequila or mezcalâ Iâm at a mixologist bar Iâm open to his opinion. Since he still didnât give me any I asked him to make me something he enjoyed making. The drinks were fine, nothing out of this world. Just a few ounces of liquid really. And upon paying they automatically charged me $6 tip. I was originally planning on leaving a $5 cash tip but I was upset that that charged me automatically and when I asked him he said because I was in a group of over 8. I said no I had my own tab. I was with my friend and the only open seating happened to be near the large group and I happened to know one person in that group. That doesnât make me part of the group. Especially when they arrived and left before I did. Overall not my favorite experience and for the two drinks I didnât think $36...
Read moreNew to the area and a few people recommended D&T. I was a little underwhelmed, considering it's size. On a Friday night, there were definitely more patrons then there were seats. They have limited seating on the front deck and bench seating and tables on the inside. The all black decor gives it an even more somber and stifling feel. The bar itself is small but the drinks that come out of it pack a large punch. The menu is available thru snapping a shot of a QR code on the serving tables. Of course, between its small size and the poor lighting, we were unable to access it - Ask for the larger code that's on a mobile display. I ordered the twist on an old fashion. It definitely could have been my last. I was waiting for my ice to melt to make my drink more palatable to my alcohol-lightweight self, but the huge customized whiskey ice cube was impenetrable. I had to tap out, which was probably a good thing considering the price of cocktails here. Staff was friendly and efficiently handled the crowd. At 11pm, the music and general volume of crowd was loud but not obnoxious. I'd try to come back on a workday earlier in...
