Zero Stars I just watched a video of a 1st amendment audit wherein the staff absolutely tried to violate a private citizen's right to film in public. Within 6½ mins of the auditor being in the library, Cecily walks up to him & tells him he's not allowed to film in the PUBLIC library. WHAT?!? Then Debbie Stewarts, mgr, tells him his "behavior & filming" is making people uncomfortable. Plus, she says, "who gave you authorization to film?" (The Constitution did) How can anyone control people's feelings? People make themselves uncomfortable. That's a ridiculous thing to say, right? You can only control someone when they give up their power to you. Then Joan D., asst director, demands his name. She lies & says he was filming in staff areas, WRONG! Then she gives him directives like he's a child. (Everytime I've been in a library no one gives me directives until I ask for it) For an asst mgr she sure had a tough time finding her way to The Constitution, when the auditor asked her for it. She says he can't film the patrons. WRONG AGAIN! Obviously she's oblivious that there's no right to privacy in public. Long story short, she became controlling of him. Toward the end after the cops told her he has a right to film in public, she became extremely rude by constantly talking over him and not listening to him at all, actually interrupting him. She needs a course in "behaving" professionally. She's a disgrace to be head mgr & not know people's basic civil rights. At least learn the Bill of Rights, geez & sheesh, for goodness sake. Quit telling patrons what to do when you have no authority to do that. Stick with helping patrons. If they need help...

Read moreThe library on Center St. here in Reno is about what you would expect for a small western city. While it is set up for most modern technological devices and there is more often than not ample room to move around and has a number of areas to sit in a be able to read study or check your email. A new thing at the library is that a new justice system court "community court" that takes cases that involve many homeless people and others that don't have money to pay fines and works with them to fix their discretion without making them lose a job or make them pay when they are just getting by. The judge and the staff are absolutely dedicated to what they are doing and it shows. They really are making a difference. And it makes the library vibrant and brings more to Reno than...
