Where Local Government and the Underclass intersect. Come lunchtime the place is criss-crossed by government workers getting food from the many establishments nearby (my fave is Teriyaki to Go). The Homeless/vagrant/itinterent are a constant. Sleeping, fighting, panhandling, being arrested - ignore them or take pity, you choose. In the Spring thru Autumn the farmer's market on Wednesday's is great - fresh veg and some really good food vendors. In the summer, with the fountain working, it's nice to stroll through. I never really bother with the 'Concerts in the Park', although I hear them setting up from my building (CalEPA). Not much else to say. Some grass, some decent park benches, a statue of Cesar Chavez and a fountain. The rebuild of the old Sunshine Cafe seems to be taking a lot longer than possible - I have no idea what they're doing, or why it's taking so long, but I look forward to it's re-opening. Oh, and if you aren't going to have water fountains in the park (really, Sac?), then don't second-guess people taking water bottles to multihour concerts in the summer when it's clearly about preventing people taking in alcohol -- but not everyone wants to, or should have to, buy water at a "free" concert, California. (Not to mention not many vendors even sell water, and is it necessary to have it cost more than $1 a bottle?) How about policing and penalizing individual behavior instead of penalizing everyone who might want to be hydrated and/or be of limited means and/or have medical conditions at an allegedly 'free'...
