Really disappointing experience. Valentines Day had a fixed menu, which consisted of a Cesar salad that I could have gotten from Chic-Fil-A. A horrible cut of steak that was 3/4 inedible fat (pictured below) with four tiny little potatoes. And a piece of cheesecake. For $287!!!!!!!!!! After pulling all of the fat off the steak, it left about five bites. Four VERY tiny potatoes hidden under the steak. No vegetables. A Cesar salad that consisted of five pieces of romaine lettuce and cheese, with ranch on top. And a piece of cheesecake. We honestly would have left, but it was Valentines Day, and there was nowhere else to go. I was very excited to try this restaurant out with my wife, as I heard their menu was phenomenal. Unfortunately I didn’t do my due diligence, and upon arrival we found out that they had a fixed menu with two options. We opted for the steak and salad. Both cuts were awful. Service was decent - but you could tell our server was forcing the convo, and didn’t want to be there. At one point he came by to check on us, and before I could even raise my head up to respond, he was gone. Atmosphere was nice. I’d love to have actually tried out their normal menu, but that part is on me for not looking into it some more before making the reservation. I’m just so so so disappointed in the quality, portion and overal meal quality for the value and price. $287 is an insane amount to charge for a poor quality cut of steak this size, with the most basic Cesar salad I’ve ever seen. I’m not even kidding when I tell you they slapped a piece of meat on a plate and served it. That’s it. A piece of meat that was 3/4 inedible fat. That’s the meal. We will not be back. Just awful. The rest of the staff in the restaurant was nice and friendly, but honestly this is the most overpriced and dissapointing meal I’ve ever had - by a LONG shot…and I have travelled the world.

I ate here for breakfast and lunch while staying at the attached Thompson hotel. In this context, it's an absolutely stellar, 5-star hotel restaurant. Using the Amex FHR credit from staying at the hotel, I was able to get a nice meal and a drink and still have some left over. Rating with my own money, however, I have to stick with four stars. Even with a relatively empty dining room at 7 on a Friday, it did take a bit of time to be served. Not a huge problem with the nice atmosphere in here - seriously well done with cool local art hanging on the walls. At the recommendation of my server, I ordered the house steak, subbing the normal sirloin cut for an 8oz filet mignon. This does push the price of the dish pretty high, though the sides are preselected and included. Note that the other mains come a la carte so you will need to order (and pay for) the sides separately. The steak was pretty great - tender, well seasoned and cooked medium rare as requested. The potato side was good, as was the kale. The fried crab fingers were an odd inclusion - there was not a ton of meat and they didn't really seem to fit with the rest of the plate. Breakfast was much the same story - 2 servers for a lot of breakfast guests. Service was similar to dinner time - courteous but slow. The basic eggs and bacon plate was fine, but nowhere near as good as the steak. Between the cash price, the flavor, and the service, I am inclined to recommend you go elsewhere unless you're already at the hotel. It's a fine option, but it doesn't "wow" and there are plenty of great restaurants downtown, accessible by the riverwalk just a few steps away from the front door.

We had very high hopes for this new restaurant at a “trendy” new hotel in downtown San Antonio. We were first greeted by a concierge who seemed confused as to why we were there and then pointed us towards the hotel side entrance to the restaurant and said to walk through the bar to the host. We stood around awkwardly for a while and then realized the host was behind the bar on the outside entrance. Our reservation was quickly found and we were seated in the main dining area at a booth/table. The tables are really large, making it difficult to converse and have an intimate dinner, I felt 3 feet away from my partner. We were hopeful and ready to order. It took a while to be greeted by our waiter, who was very soft spoken and difficult to understand. We placed an order for appetizers and drinks and then waited a while before being approached again and told that the entire computer system failed and they might not be able to accommodate our dinner and drink order but would see. Thankfully, about 7 minutes later we were told everything would be entered by hand and we’d be on our way to getting our food and drinks soon. BBQ oysters- looked cool but were simply half charred with a watery bbq sauce. Bone marrow-not my thing, but was told it was pretty good. Grilled bread-all cold and hard. Bison rib- very dry and lacked any flavor. Pasta- too al dente and very heavy on the cream and salt, very little crab. Blackberry tart- best dish, full of flavor, served warm with a scoop of ice cream and pistachios. Very pricey for quality. We won’t likely be back unless the menu changes seasonally and we decide to give it a second chance.

Ambiance - Check, Staff- check. This place doesn't warrant the high price tag it offers though. I love farm to table concept. I love food. Much of what is offered was over priced and under delivered. Bread service great. Appetizers taste and flavor good- price ok. We had the oysters. Our friends ordered the several and they were good. NOT GREAT good but good. Not signature either.

Signature drinks were good. However, never looked at the price tag for a drink of whisky, pinapple and rum in a 7 oz standard drink doesn't warrant a $12 price tag. Mix drinks usually in the $7-9 range. It was no locally small batched distilled liquor to warrant that hike in price tag either.

The pork chop looked like a TOMAHAWK steak $45. However, as you start cutting super pink in the middle. THIS IS A PORK SHANK/CHOP never served pink. My husband took home. Well it was a treat for our fur baby at home. Reheating a pink pork chop not healthy.

One friend ordered the Garganelli Pasta $26 not what was expected. That portion and what was plated looked like an appetizer and a soup not anywhere near a MAIN Entree. They took a few bites and went back to the appetizers. They said they didn't like it.

I ordered the Baked Spinach Lasagna Herbed Pasta $24, Mushroom Bolognese. I was told they baked over a wood oven. I was like OMG just like italy. SOLD. That was a horrible dish. I ate 1/4 of it as I WAS HUNGRY. Waiter even asked if I wanted to take it home. I said no thank you. The bolognese sauce comes on the side as well as the creamed ricotta/crema. So basically noodles with spinach baked over a wood burning oven meant that it was dry. The bolognese sauce portion is like that of a side sauce and it was SUPER SALTY.

The others ordered the chicken and the fish with no complaints. They were hearty and were tasty. Price point on point for that.

Side dishes ordered are all separate. Which means a side of Brocolli rabi and baby carrots will cost you around $7 each. On top of that hefty price tag on some of the dishes.

Lastly, I was thirty after that mix drink so I ordered a diet coke. Okay the price is $4. However, I did not know I was in Europe. The can was a MINI diet coke can. I understand not over eating and over drinking. However, $4 for a mini diet coke? Then I said maybe we were in europe water no ice.

Don't expect table linen. There is none. With that kinda price tag....hmm...It is the NEW Trendy spot. However, I would rather head over to the Palm or Boudros if I am gonna pay $140 for dinner for 2 people. This restaurant has great location. Great potential.

We had a great time! The staff was amazing! The food just fell super short. Do they have time to...

This restaurant is pretty underwhelming. With all the great food options in San Antonio & along the river walk…I would be inclined to go elsewhere. Just about anywhere, elsewhere.

I requested decaf coffee and was told, by the server, they didn’t have that. What fine dining restaurant (let alone hotel) doesn’t have decaf coffee? I asked about decaf espresso and the server responded that they didn’t have any decaf, only regular. I looked down at my 8 month pregnant belly and said that wasn’t an option since I’m pregnant. He then said I can make some for you. I was grateful.

We asked for recommendations on starters. He raved about the Cesar salad. It was, easily, the most underwhelming Cesar salad I have ever had. The lettuce was not fresh, cold or crisp but appeared to be browned bag lettuce. There were 3 greasy croutons and some grated cheese. No pepper offered & no pepper on the table. This is a restaurant that should have salt & pepper on the table. They are not in the “I’m so good, you won’t need to season my food” arena.

Telling the server about the salad was super awkward & it really shouldn’t have been. He asked me what I wanted to do & said he would give me time. I kinda just wanted someone to check/acknowledge that the salad was not the norm & reassure me the quality was off. They ran out of romaine…something? The server was pretty terrible at handling our complaint & just made it uncomfortable. The manager said she would tell the chef…okay? I’m like go look…which I actually said to her. Anyway, she did bring out the heirloom tomato and peach salad which was actually good. Much more in like with my expectations of a fine dining ($15) salad.

We also ordered the scallops…they were seared but way under seared. First bite of the outside was okay…but second bite was cold and raw. Internal temp certainly didn’t get high enough so, being pregnant, I couldn’t even at them. My husband ate them and said they were not terrible. He did joke about whether the pan was on the wrong burner.

The roasted chicken was the best thing we had but it was just okay. Again, with the prices…okay just doesn’t cut it. The little green salsa was good but there wasn’t enough of it. The avocado that came with the entree was brown.

We didn’t complain beyond the Cesar salad because we chose to continue and felt we knew better. We should have high tailed it out of there after the bagged salad experience.

I would not go back nor recommend. The convenience is nice but the food & service needs a lot of...

While looking for something different to try for my husband’s birthday, I came across the L2 Chef’s Counter experience at LandraceTx downtown at the Thompson. I made the reservation through their website and chose a 7pm seating with the 7-course menu. The menu is specially curated by the chef for your specific occasion with creative off-menu dishes prepared by Chef Omar. Being seated at the K-Bar (kitchen bar) allows you to see all the action in the kitchen- the regular restaurant fare and your own dishes, from preparation to plating, and the careful attention given to each plate. Alex, our server, took excellent care of us throughout the evening and made sure we had everything we needed at all times. Our courses were: Arancini with Italian salsa verde Butternut squash soup with brown butter poached lobster Tuna tataki with XO sauce and gochujang aioli Brussels sprouts salad with crushed Texas peanuts, dressed in a Dijon vinaigrette Blue crab tacos- a take on surf & turf with Wagyu steak and oyster dressing Lamb t-bone chops with tricolor carrot purée, black truffle Apple hand pie (think “empanadas”) with horchata ice cream and a bourbon cajeta drizzle

Everything was absolutely delicious!

A representative will contact you a few days before the reservation to discuss likes, dislikes, allergies, etc. The entire experience lasted just over 2 hours (maybe we’re slow eaters?) and towards the end we had a really pleasant conversation with Chef Omar and got to know a little bit about him and his family (and where he likes to eat in his off time!). Your place setting includes a printed copy of your personalized menu if you want to have it as a keepsake.

We would absolutely do this again and highly recommend this experience to anyone, both locals and visitors, looking to do something special and different. Keep in mind, each menu is unique so your menu may not look like ours, but it will be equally delicious, I’m sure!

It was chilly and raining, so we used the valet service at the hotel- if you do this, don’t forget to have your ticket validated by the restaurant for free valet parking, otherwise expect to pay $30.

Thank you, Chef Omar and Alex, for an exceptional experience...
