Me and my husband have been going here for about a year and we love it! The church folk are very kind and welcoming and have so many church services to fit various needs! Such as 2 services morning and afternoon, a contemporary service for those who do not wish to go to traditional, a Spanish speaking service which also providesa Wednesdaynight service in addition to Sunday, a Congolese service, and Kareni! They also have sooo many ministries that spread the love of Christ in various ways such as community and international missions and plentyyy of youth groups as well. Me and my husband were initially hesitant to go because of its size as we didn't know if this would be similar to that of a mega church but it's nothing like that at all! The sanctuary is a reasonable size it's just the building attached that make the church look so huge! We also appreciate that tithing isn't forced down your throats like other churches do to simply fill the pastors pockets, the money you give is 100% used to run the church and to fund the ministries as it should and they even hold monthly business meetings to show you where the finances are going! The only thing I'd say is I wish they had a stronger social media presence highlighting all these amazing things they offer and events that they host by simply even posting pictures or short videos of them on their facebook and insta in addition to the sermon clips so outsiders can get a visual of the church community when they click on these fbcsa profiles; as this can promote membership and attract a younger crowd who weren't raised in...
Read moreWalking into First Baptist San Antonio feels like getting a big hug. Seriously, the people there are just genuinely warm and welcoming. From the moment you step through the doors, you'll find folks smiling and ready to say hello – it makes a real difference. What I really appreciate about their worship is how many different ways there are to connect. It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of place at all. They've got an early service if you're an early bird and a latter morning one if you like to sleep in a bit. Plus, they have a midweek service on Wednesday evenings, which is great for breaking up the week. But it's more than just Sunday mornings. They have evening services too, and honestly, it seems like they've thought of everything! They have all sorts of individual classes and groups going on, catering to so many different needs and interests. It really feels like they're trying to meet people where they are in life. The word that keeps coming to mind is accommodating. Whatever your schedule or where you are on your spiritual journey, First Baptist San Antonio seems to have something for you. It's a place where you can really find your fit and feel like you belong. If you're looking for a church in San Antonio where you'll find friendly faces and lots of opportunities to connect and grow, you should definitely check out First Baptist...
Read moreIf you want a God-honoring, Bible teaching, Gospel preaching church, LOOK ELSEWGERE! Honestly, this is a very nice facility and they have all kinds of programs but the city runs this church so they can keep its historical status. That being said, the preaching and teaching are fairly watered down. The Wednesday night Bible Study was essentially a discussion group where whatever you thought about the passage was good enough. The moderator would just read a passage, give a very superficial summary, then ask a leading question for your table group to discuss. No exposition at all. No correction of false interpretation or anything. The staff are friendly, if you can grab a hold of one long enough to help you but the interaction with laymen was minimal. It feels like they want you to just get fully on board and signed up for a program or 2 before they really invest any time in you. Their schedule of services/programs can be confusing to navigate and the way the facilities are set up can be confusing too. We visited here for several weeks and still had trouble figuring things out. No one noticed we were new visitors. Besides the Wednesday night focus group we attended no one really greeted us or talked to us or remembered us. I don't think most of the people there know each...
