If you take the time to read this review as it is a long one. You will understand why I say, do not waste your time eating here, the staff is disrespectful and food is nasty. Mamacita's restaurant in San Antonio is waaaayyy better in comparison to food, presentation and customer service.
Daughter came here after a school field trip. A fellow student gave a piece of their chicken quesadilla to my daughter to try. On the first bite she pulled a brown hair out of her food. They reported it to the server, "Miguel". Miguel accused the kids of putting the hair in the food. WRONG they did not do something so nasty. They began opening the quesadilla in front of the server and they found another hair. Miguel told them that they put it there and that he was not refunding their money. Miguel did NOT return their money. My daughter absolutely hated her food. It did not look appealing at all. When it was time to square up her tab her and another student mentioned that they had military discounts. The server "Miguel" when replied, "OH MY GOSH" and kept telling them it's only 10% difference as if it were a problem that they wanted their discount. If it were an adult he wouldn't have spoken like that to them. I know for sure he wouldn't have treated me or my husband in such a manner. Because had he done so we would have had a misunderstanding right were he stood. You DO NOT treat anyone paying good money to eat this nasty looking food like this. You are a server and are serving because clearly you need the money. This is not how you get that money. A lady walked up to my daughter and said let me see your id because she didn't believe that my daughters government issued id was a real id. I called back this evening and a young girl answered and said that they did not have a manager on duty. I said, "How is this possible that you are in a store with no manager on duty"? She said that they aren't serving anyone. I said we have already been served and need a manager. She says, "Ohhhhhh you want a manager"? I don't have time for games on an establishment that we pay good money to eat at. This is NOT good business and makes you look bad. I will make sure to tell everyone not to waste their money here. Customer service is a joke and the way that plate looked a homeless person that has not eaten in 2 weeks wouldn't...
Read more(OLDER REVIEW)Very good place. Staff seemed to be welcoming and excited even though it was Christmas day. Prices are way better than Mi Tierra's Well done Pico's, keep it up!
Follow up review 5 or so years later, (3/11/23). I had the Pollos Notenos, this plate was a chicken breast beaten flat and overcooked, the taste was comparable to something you could buy pre-seasoned from our local HEB. There were no grill marks, this recipe was obviously made on a griddle, I was surprised that they used what tasted like liquid smoke. 13.99 for the plate I would expect a slightly better seasoned meal, the cook staff seems to put more love and emphasis on their fajita dishes which were on point tender, juicy and hot.
My wife had the Chicken Tortilla Soup, again they used overcooked chicken breast, it was poorly seasoned and bland. They used tortilla chips that have been laying in the deep fry oil for too long so they had that extra fry oil taste added to the soup, may not have been much of an issue if they had the chips on the side so you had the option to have extra grease.
Sadly, Pico de Gallos is a big name in our city, probably one that everyone refers tourists to go eat at. The ambiance is qute, the wait staff is amazing, service is top notch. One thing I found odd is, your eating at a place called Pico de Gallos and we weren't offered Pico de gallo, weird.
As a lifetime resident of San Antoino I like to come to Pico de Gallos from time to time, see what they're showing our tourists. If tourists read this review. Try Las Palapas, the prices are a little bit cheaper (comparable) and the food has been consistently...
Read morePico De Gallo offers an authentic Mexican Pueblo experience. The atmosphere starts the minute you enter the gate. As you walk towards the entrance of restaurant you see a wall sized mural of the famous Jose Cuervo label.
As you make your way around the corner you are treated to the feel of a Mexican Plaza. To theft is one of the best views of the San Antonio Skyline.
As you enter the restaurant. You are greeted at the door by a female hostess in traditional dress. The front area is a festive room with pinatas and silver banners.
The mural traces the long gone landmarks as well as San Antonio's whose who have dined at the restaurant.
There is also a more intimate dining area for more private moments.
Tonight I ordered the Botana Platter as an appetizer. It is big enough to feed 4 people and highlights traditional street food with mini quesadillas, taquitos and mini chalupas.
As the main coarse i chose the Special Mexican Dinner. The plate includes a guacamole salad complete in a tortilla bowl. Beef enchiladas a tamale rice beans.
The friendly staff keeps your drink well Filled. After your dinner one has to visit the bakery with a small variety of pastelles.
Sadly it is here that i must deduct the 1/2 star from 5 to 4. I ordered several desserts to go. Once i got them home, most of the cookies were in peices and my empanadas were broken.
All together for a great experience come to Pico De Gallo for a 1sr rate...
