So this type of hotel is what you get for a great low price. Unfortunately, there are some trade-offs with the low price. I will start with the good stuff first: the hotel is very close to a bus station, so if you need to catch a bus - either two or from the hotel, you can do so with ease.
In addition, although the room was very basic, lacking a refrigerator microwave or even a recliner, it made up for the fact it did have a little dinette, and it was super clean.
Now for the lacking stuff: among the first things I noticed was the lack of a breakfast area. However that wasn't too much of a problem because McDonald's was literally a short walk away.
The main issue I had with the stay was one of the lobby staff members was not very helpful, to us or his coworkers. I'll try to keep it short: after our trip to the riverwalk, we discovered our keys were not working anymore. So we went to the front desk to get them fixed. There were three people at the desk: one man was already helping another customer, another man was on his phone either browsing or texting, and a woman who never spoke but did give us a very polite smile and gestured to her coworker. It's possible she did not speak English.
Look at it however you want, but there was no way I would ever complain about that. My mother used to teach English as a second language, and I've seen first hand what it's like not to speak the local language.
What surprised me and especially the woman, was that the man on his cell phone simply got up and walked into the back room, without acknowledging anybody. I have to admit I felt second hand embarrassment right there as the woman's polite smile suddenly turned to a look of embarrassment. As she looked back and forth between us and her coworker as he walked into the other room.
Thankfully we did not have to wait too long, as the first man had just finished helping the customer and helped us. It would seem there was no need for me to inform him about what his male coworker had done, because before I could say anything, and as they waved us goodbye the woman started speaking to him and her native language and almost immediately the man face-palmed and apologized to us for his male coworker's behavior. I just shrugged and walked away. I honestly did not know what to say.
Later, we discovered that there was no toilet paper. Oof. So I called front desk. Now let me emphasize I cannot confirm if this was the same guy on his phone or not, because I did not go to the front desk. But when I requested if we could get some more toilet paper, he simply told us to come to the front desk to get it, instead of sending housekeeping, who were on duty at the time. Normally this would not be too much of a deal, but after what had happened in the lobby beforehand left me rather suspicious.
Make no mistake, I will definitely stay at this hotel again. The price, cleanliness, and the close proximity to the bus station are huge Plus. Not to mention McDonald's being a short walk away. But I cannot forget what that guy did to his two co-workers. Not cool, bro. Not cool.
Update: after I wrote this review I read the other reviews that were left by other customers. It seems to me that while the cleanliness at least in the room I stayed in has improved greatly, the staff could use better training. While I am glad my issue with the staff wasn't too bad, I still feel sincerely sorry for the female coworker that was left out in the cold by her male coworker who was glued...
Read moreWe were booked 3 days and only made it through one night. First thing we noticed upon entering the room was a mildew smell and high humidity/dampness. Then we noticed 3 dead roaches in various corners of the room, so we had to go to the front and ask for a broom to sweep them out. The front desk person showed no concern over the fact that immediately after checking in we needed to clean bugs out of the room. We showered and the drain wasn’t working properly so we were standing in inches of water during the whole shower and didn’t feel clean. We came for a convention and I brought an expensive collector poster to be signed by an actor. I had to store it in my car for fear of water damage from the poor, wet air quality (I could see the paper starting to get wavy from humidity despite it being in a plastic protective sleeve). So one of my most valued items was instead subjected to the San Antonio heat. We were exhausted after arriving very late and adjusted the AC in hopes that would fix the air, but we woke up the next morning to thick, humid air and all of our things wet (the hair gel in the hair of a doll we brought was literally melting and making its face sticky). The biggest issue, which I explained to the front desk, is that I have asthma and the air quality, mold, and dead bugs were triggering it. A maintenance man checked the room and told us it had something wrong with it causing the dampness, but we didn’t get even a partial refund for being placed in an un-inhabitable room. We then switched rooms, but the replacement room was also damp and dirty, and I felt that the whole building was so musty and bug-riddled that it didn’t matter where we were placed - I would still have trouble breathing due to my asthma. So we opted to inconveniently switch to a different hotel chain on the afternoon of our second day. We only stayed one night, but because it was past 3pm the front desk person refused to refund us for the second night which we were not even spending at this motel. She completely ignored me and spoke over me when I tried to explain that this was not just us wanting to switch hotels because we felt like it, but it was a health concern and an issue of protecting our property. It is very clear that this was about a health issue, not just “high maintenance” guests, because we were forced to pay for a second night that we did not actually spend in the room, so we paid for two different hotels that day. I have stayed at Motel 6 before - at the beach, nonetheless - and the quality was perfectly fine. Nothing fancy, but nothing that would damage our belongings or trigger my asthma. That Motel 6 also had a mini fridge and a coffeemaker, but the front desk person told us that no Motel 6’s have those… a blatant lie. Even though I had a good experience at a different Motel 6, after this absolute lack of concern shown for your guests wellbeing and property, we are avoiding Motel...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would...this place was that bad. The morning guy "Mike" only made the trip even worse. We got in to SA around midnight, searched for an hr. For a hotel that could accommodate 4 of us and had a working pool and after an hr of seaching finally had to deal with this motel. I had to fight every inch of ny being to not leave this place after walking into the room. There was no towels, no toilet paper, feces in the toilet, every type of hair in the tub, sink, and floor. White thick product was on the restroom floor oh and there was no door to the restroom, it was random double doors with no lock and barely closed. On top of that when I pulled the sheets off the bed there was behold MORE HAIR...from not only the top of your head might I add. And the icing on top...there were bugs, dried blood and grass I believe on the sheets as well. We slept on our own blankets and tried not to touch anything else in the room. In the morning we went to the pool and Mike said the pool wasn't ready to be open because of the high acidity level. When questioning him more he began to lie and make excuses...he eventually took me to the pool to show me how he tests the level and all he did was take out a filter that catches debris. I told him that's just a filter and then he began to say no it's not a filter it's this and that. He said this tells me it is not ready...I said how does it tell you cuz its telling me otherwise. He kept saying it's because I don't know what I'm talking about (shocker I have a pool at home so I know what it is). Either way I walked away and we immediately went to check out. I thanked Mike and he looked at me angrily and said nothing. I would 1000 PERCENT BEG PPL NOT TO BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. I already spoke to Wyndham the parent company and they will be looking into this...
