I know we don't live in a perfect world and there's "pro's & con's" to almost everything you can think of and most times you only hear about the con's, but aren't times are hard enough for everyone as it is? For the most part, I enjoy riding with VIA, no matter where I need to go VIA can get me there or close enough for a short walk and if I don't know which bus to take I can ask just about any operator; they're more than just operator's, they're people too, or you can check out VIA's their web site. That was the pro,now here's the con. I remember a time when you can always rely on VIA's schedule of when a particular bus would be departing that specific location on; or shortly after, the designated time listed on the schedule - but never sooner! So what the heck happened? I do my best to arrive at the bus stop at least 5-10 mins; if possible, before the scheduled departure time, but lately I've had to literally chase down buses leaving ahead of schedule, just as I'm arriving and I've noticed I'm not the only one. If your lucky enough to get the operator's attention - he/she "might stop for you; especially if you're running", but don't count on it. Like I said, these are hard enough times for all of us, but we shouldn't make it any harder on anyone. This doesn't happen very often, but it...
Read moreOnly 2 buses are stopping at Centro Plaza during the road work currently in progress on a stretch of Frio St. The plaza is supposedly closed to the public during this time. The project will last into January of 2018. The bathrooms are closed. Resting on the bench at Centro Plaza while trying to find where your bus will stop during the detours is not allowed, charging your cell phone so you may power on and plan your bus trip at Centro Plaza is not allowed, and unfortunately for my disabled friend charging your motorized wheel chair when it dies so you may be able to make it to wherever your bus has detoured to is not allowed. Oh, nothing is allowed at Centro Plaza that is unless you appear to be a college student or you appear to have money, but if you're unfortunate enough to be missing teeth or to have some other physical imperfection or if you appear as if you are poor and disabled then you're out of luck. Even if you have purchased a full fare monthly pass at full price you will be discriminated against regardless if you have a hole in your clothes or if you have a speech impediment or alone and mentally handicapped. If you appear povern or homeless you WILL be discriminated against and harassed. Thanks again VIA for providing all of my rider needs like you publicly...
Read moreWhile it serves the purpose of a transportation hub, this plaza was sold to the taxpayers as being an open public forum. Via security and police are often violating their own policy regarding this. Guards attempting to remove loitering person's demand citizens tell them which bus they are catching. There is a strong need for better security, I have been assaulted twice on this property. The guard in one case failed to activate her bodycamera and the police here vary greatly in understanding the rules and the law. Being told by every police officer that you have to get permission to film in public violated vias policy. The police still give you the PR person's card and insist you have to get permission. Via policy is you can film in any non restricted areas, no prior consent or special permission is needed. Officers who imply this are...
