I cannot stress enough how awful this experience was. The bouncer at Tivoli Tavern is genuinely the meanest, most miserable human being I have ever met in my entire life. From the second we walked up, he treated us with complete disrespect. Our friends were already inside, but he flat-out refused to let us in. Until some regular told him to let us in.
It got worse. When we were leaving, my friend realized she had forgotten her phone inside. She asked politely if she could run back in to grab it, and he refused. Not just a firm “no,” but aggressively rude about it, as if we were bothering him by even asking. When she tried to explain, he actually PUSHED her. Yes—physically shoved her. I have a video of this happening, and it’s disgusting that a bar would ever employ someone who thinks this behavior is okay.
This was not just unfriendly or strict—this man went out of his way to be as mean, condescending, and unpleasant as possible. It ruined the night, and frankly, I don’t know how this place hasn’t fired him yet.
Tivoli Tavern should be ashamed of themselves for letting someone like this represent their business. If you value basic human decency and safety, do...

A certain sense of pride is had when drinking in San Diego’s oldest bar. Yeah, don’t believe all that other BS about longest running, longest licensed. This is the oldest bar people. It’s survived the times evolving with the will of the people and being a hub of the community.
Service isn’t the greatest, prices are decent (you know they also carry my other vice behind the bar too). Selection is pretty good and I like the multiple upgrades they have done over the past decade. The regulars keep the peace on the patio because you get a lot of vagrants roaming. I’ve been to worse bathrooms. It’s a fun place to grab a beer, but not spend all day/night at. They certainly go overboard with the butt funneling or maybe people never learned how to order, probably a little of both, get your drink and get out the way. Karaoke is pretty cool as some of the staff are really good. They could use a 2nd bartender when it’s busy.
It’s a little divey, but a great spot to start/end a crawl or just central to some day drinking. It seems crowded at times, but never...
Read moreNever ever witnessed such a rip off in my life!!! And I live in Vegas and I’m a bartender!!! I am stunned!! Customer ordered a double Jameson and it was $52 I literally was standing right there! And SEEN THE RECEIPT Then.. a local came in and the only reason I knew that was because the door guy didn’t ask for his id. I seen the bartender pour the ExAct same double shot of Jameson. I went up to the bar and looked at his receipt…it was rang as a double Jameson at $12 PLUS the customer / local said to my face..that is WITH HIS LOCAL DISCOUNT!! I looked at the bartenders and said shame on you!! We exchanged middle fingers and I was ABSOLUTELY STUNNED AT WHAT I PERSONALLY SEEN ON THE RECEIPTS!! This was not hearsay. The reason I was was on high alert because we came in there and had two drafts and it was 26$ I asked for an itemized receipt and stood over them as they scammed to produce it! I just wanted to make sure I was not the only one they were trying to rip off! SHAME ON...
