If you're thinking this place is a great hostel to stay for a couple days, you're very mistaken and your belongings are at risk. My sister was in town and requested for them to hold her belongings while she was out. When I came with her to pick up her belongings later that day, all her food and water bottles were consumed. One of the staff admitted that he had mistakenly used up the food and gave them to everyone thinking it was a donation. (He said it was his second day on the job) Another staff who claimed that he was a "volunteer" said he will tell his manager about the issue the next day and promised for a refund. I waited for the call all day but it never happened. The second day, I finally spoke to the manager, James. He never explained what happened and said the receptionist, staff, and himself have "decided" that it was a donation after watching the video footage. However, he would not let us see the video. Please don't put yourself at risk in the place where no staff will take responsibility for their actions.
P.S. Most of the staff are new and I think they stay there for free and work for the hostel. Also, staff members don't have authority to make any financial decision (refund etc..) which leaves you with one person, James the manager! You're not always right :)

Please answer me these following questions that I still try to fiigure out:
If handing the belongings to someone so someome can hold on to the belongings is a donation, then why didn't you go ahead and share my luggage and its content with everyone that came with it.
I especially picked those Korean snacks, chocolate, rice bowls, ramen noodles, bread and whole batch of water bottles for my little sister for her own convenience. Don't you need to not touch other person's stuff if you're not sure? This is not a college dorm. It is a business.
Refund was suggested by your staff when my sister was very confused about what happened. We never mentioned it first, not trying to rip you off just wanted explanation and sincere applogy which never happened.
Why can't you show me the footage if you guys are innocent and I actually donated the stuff to you. How can you just decide that it was a donation?
Why would I go through this much fuss and spend time to call and write this review to only get 25 dollars refund and ruin my sister's and my good time in San diego. I live in San Diego with my husband in a house. My sister only stayed in the hostel to experience what it's like. She's not a broke traveler who wants to rip you off.
Why didn't you guys ever tried to contact me or even explain to me what happened but rather falsely accuse me of a person who's trying to take advantage of you with no proof.
Why did James told me he was the manager when he's not? And tell me not to call back after 2 short calls without any explanation?
I have read all the reviews about this hostel. And every time there is an issue or negative comments about this business, replies always blame the person who wrote the review. Clearly, you can't take any problems and want to blame someome else, the person who made suggestions.
Please, please answer these questions. I don't understand why you and your staff are so afraid of admitting that there was miscommunications between coworkers...
Read moreI've stayed in over 40 hostels internationally, and this is in my top 3 favourites! I have renewed my stay multiple times since I'm having such a good time here. Here's some reasons why I love this hostel:
Travel date was 7/2018 but, I've noticed my review never was posted!
I checked into the ITH Adventure Hotels - Captains House on Friday afternoon with a group of approximately 25. So, we had the entire house for our group. The moment we walked in and found our rooms there was something bad that each person could say. The place didn't smell clean, (no one dusts or do real housekeeping) there was spider webs in the corners of the wood windows, the desk and the armoire in my room was filled with dust, the linen on the bed/pillowcases had rust spots on them. The laundry room was filled with dirty linen. Every room was given two towels and every room had bath towels that were extremely dingy, they appeared to not be washed with laundry detergent and bleach, and there were old towels given out that had huge holes in them. Moving on to the bathroom, although the decor looked ok, inside of the shower had lots of mold and the drain needs to be replaced because there is a whole in it. The kitchen also had dirty dishes in the dish washer.
We found that the captains house is not very safe nor secure! The first night at 330am one of the guests noticed there was an unknown male playing on his phone, sitting on the couch in the kitchen. Remember, our group had the entire house to ourselves and we knew everyone. One of the guests noticed him and fell from her bunk bed and the male immediately got up and tried to head to the bathroom. He said excuse me to the guest and proceeded up the stairway to the upstairs bathroom. It was that time, the guest informed a male guest that there was an unknown male in the bathroom and two male guests questioned him once he came out the bathroom. The male immediately said he works with the company, he has access to get in and that he was doing the laundry. He proceeded out the front door and never returned. The male guests checked the laundry room and found that the same laundry was still in the laundry room not cleaned. All doors were checked and it was found that the kitchen back door to the alley, was unlocked and that's where the male entered the house.
On the second day, the entire house went out for a few hours to SeaWorld and as soon as we returned and opened the front door, we observed that the side door was wide open. Luckily, nothing was missing but everyone in the house were uncomfortable staying there for the weekend.
The owners really need to upgrade the house and hire someone to keep up the houses-keeping!!! I will not refer this...
