I made a promise to myself that if ever I’m in San Diego I’m only staying on Shelter Island. And preferably at the Bay Club. My room was spacious and comfortable in every way. I think every room in the whole place has a great view and mine was no exception. I loved sitting out on my patio. The hot tub overlooking the marina was the perfect end to every day. All of the crew were very kind and helpful. I had an issue with a slow-draining sink and it was resolved quickly without any trace of a mess. I wish there was a rolling chair at the desk but all else in the room met or exceeded my expectations. My one complaint is that the bar closed early on the last day of the month which foiled my plan of a nightcap for the hot tub. I think that’s a little bit of a silly practice but if you’re going to do it then make sure your guests know. But other than that, it would be hard to find anything to complain about here. Shelter Island makes you feel like you’re vacationing in a quaint little coastal town rather than in a big city. It’s a great place for walks, sunsets, people-watching, and enjoyment. The Bay Club is one of a few hotels on the island and I don’t what the experience would be like at any of the others but I’d be afraid I’d be disappointed if I tried somewhere else.

Nice property situated on the Bay on Shelter. A bit dated, but well maintained. One thing I found very odd that there aren't any ice machines. I didn't know this and when I was wandering the hall with the ice bucket from the room looking for it I asked one of the housekeeping staff about the ice machine location. She advised me that I needed to go to the bar in the main lobby and have the bartender fill it. Good news is... she cheerfully volunteered to run it down for me. The rooms and bath are clean and most rooms have a nice view. It's family friendly, so if you are looking for some quiet time on the balcony, don't get a room overlooking the pool.

overview (room 207) The room was very large and clean. It was ready upon arrival. We paid for a 2nd fl bay view; however, we received a room with a VERY small, unusable balcony. Barely two chairs could fit on it and the AC unit took up most of the space. There was alot of landscaping in front of the balcony so we could only see a very small side view of the bay. It did make the room feel more private and since we were not in the room very much during the day, we did not ask for a different room with a better balcony and view. Because of the size of the room, it felt fairly quiet. Pictures online showed rooms with no carpet but ours did have carpet. It didn't have any stains though. We did notice walking by some rooms being cleaned some had hard floors and no carpet. There is a separate changing room which was convenient but a bit awkward with the placement of the small microwave and outlet. Our bathtub/shower combo didn't drain properly when we were showering but the water was hot and had good water pressure. Good flushing toilet too. A few suggestions: 1- add more outlets, especially in the dressing area. 2- change the doors throughout the property. All the room doors and bathroom doors are old wood doors. They may be what is causing a slight odor and make the property look dated. 3- add a working fan to the bathroom 4- for how large the room was, there was only one small sitting chair. Adding another chair or small table or small couch would be helpful. This hotel is on Shelter Island which is great! The hotel itself doesn't have much outdoor area but across the street is a wonderful walking sidewalk along the bay. It is very clean, safe and beautiful. There is a little hidden gem on the fishing pier with a spot that has local brews, homemade sausage and snacks. There isn't anywhere convenient to grab a coffee or breakfast though other than the hotel restaurant. The food we did get at the restaurant (breakfast mostly) tasted good and good portions. And when we stopped for a drink, Dan the bartender was super friendly. The parking was tight but since we were there during January, there wasn't that many cars so didn't have an issue in the small parking spaces in the garage during our stay. Staff for the most part was friendly. Overall, we had a good stay. We would definitely keep this property as an option...

Honest review as a solo trip! I booked the cheapest room available - Standard Room, 1 King Bed, Patio, Ground Floor.

Service: always helpful and friendly, every staff I encountered!

Room: the room was very large and cleaned well although outdated bathroom for sure. It was ready upon arrival. My view overlooked the front parking lot, but the bay was there and provided light. The balcony is shared which is weird and at times made me uncomfortable as a solo traveler and the large glass sliding door. The bed and pillows were comfortable and firm (but not everyone may appreciate that). The heat worked well and I kept it on often because in the evening at night you could hear neighbors talking or the TV easily otherwise. Pictures online showed rooms with no carpet but ours did have carpet. It didn't have any stains though. We did notice walking by some rooms being cleaned some had hard floors and no carpet. There is a mini fridge, microwave and coffee set and ample closet and storage space, desk, large chair and ottoman. The bathtub/shower combo didn't always drain properly when we were showering but the water was hot. Needs updated bathroom & tub (even though it was clean). The room door was hard to shut. All the room doors and bathroom doors are old wood doors.

Location: This hotel is on Shelter Island which is safe, fun and great views. The hotel has a great view of the bay and the marina! Great area to walk across the street along the bay. It is very clean, safe and beautiful. Lots of fresh and fun restaurants walkable although coffee is a very short drive away. The food we did get at the restaurant (breakfast mostly) tasted good and larger portions.

Parking: while there is parking both upstairs and downstairs garage is ample, the spaces are very tight!

Property itself was cleaned but needs updates as it is much more weathered then photos show, although they are not misleading, just the natural progression of things. I think in the evenings, I would hate to stay near the lobby/restaurant as it can get loud. Overall I am giving it 4 stars (but a 3.5 star hotel) because it was comfortable, safe and great location. I...

Overpriced rooms, great service. Definitely need to check out what ur paying for before hand. I ordered a king suite with a bay view and gotten a king room, more like a regular room with a small king size bed and a marine view and because u can see a little tiny bit of the bay, and I mean just a little bit, it was considered a bay view. I even called before hand to make sure that we could see the fireworks from our balcony and I was told it was a great view for the fireworks. When we got there, no view of that area, I immediately talked to the hotel front desk and eventually got moved to a decent view of the fireworks area, but was put into a much smaller room and still got charged for a big room. I'm quite dissatisfied and a little disappointed that nothing was done about the pricing of our stay. I got charged over $1300 for 3 nights stay. I truly think something should be done about this. I would go back in the future, but I would definitely do it on a non holiday weekend and I would definitely ask which room I'm staying in and find out if it's worth it. I really don't like to complain like this, but it truly was not the greatest 4th of July experience that I was told it was going to be. It's a shame, it truly is a beautiful place and if put in the right room, could be a beautiful view. Ohh yeah, if ur driving a big vehicle, beware of the parking, very small spaces, I recommend renting a small vehicle just to be able to maneuver in and out of the...
