I do not leave reviews. I feel this one is absolutely necessary.
As one approaches the cafe a lack of spatial awareness can prove difficult to find the entrance to this establishment. For those who prove unworthy in such awareness you must first complete your lap around the building to enter. Not that I had to do that, of course.
Upon walking in you are hit with a perfect blend of hometown diner and beachside dive bar. A breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu selection paired with a full bar gives the patron a wide selection of both sustenance, and should you feel saucy, a bit of debauchery. While it may have just been luck, a TV playing an interview with Keanu Reeves helps to secure not only the vibe of the cafe but also helps you settle into the name.
After you seat yourself you are promptly greeted by a server, and should you be in karma's good graces, that server will be Ellen. As she immediately welcomes you with hospitality you could only find elsewhere in a southern mother's home she is quick to provide answers to questions and details about the specials.
The worst part of this restaurant is deciding what you want to eat. From homestyle and Mexicali breakfasts to the burgers and sandwiches that are sure to grab your attention, it is initially best to follow your heart and plan another trip to eat. Quality delicious food is in fact the name of the game, and Point Break may in fact be writing the playbook. I got the tamales with the tomatillo sauce, a recommendation from none other than Ellen herself. The food she presented was almost enough to satiate my appetite from looks alone. Upon my first bite I was sent into another realm. I believe it was the great warrior poet Britney who said; "with the taste of your lips I'm on a ride." I believe she in fact replaced the words "tamales from Point Break Cafe" with the word "lips" just for the sake of the melody, but I know what she really meant. The tamale was so well crafted my abuelita herself would give her stamp of approval (a feat harder to earn than a third Michelin star, by the way.) A perfect texture hits your mouth, the cheesiness gives that savory, melty, fatty flavor we Americans so crave. Finally, the sauce. Oh the sauce. Tangy, a little sweet, and absolutely powerful flavors first hit your olfactory senses and then your tastebuds, a 1-2 combo you're actually honored to receive. A sauce so robust my father exclaimed "Oh!" in a manner I've never seen a man deliver before.
As you enjoy your meal you are also blessed with the general presence of the aforementioned Ellen. While she greets other guests and takes order she does not leave you behind, rather, she is the vessel that will deliver the entire experience. You will feel welcome, you will feel loved, you will taste wonders beyond comprehension, and you will yearn to go back as soon as possible.
Overall, the vibe was impeccable. I know I could enjoy a meal with my family or go and get absolutely silly with my hoodrat friends. I know I will eat good, and should I be fortunate enough to be served by Ellen I will live good in that moment as well.
Please eat here. Nay, please experience here.

Read moreWe went in kind of early on a Saturday evening I guess before the crowd actually got there their were just a couple of people at the bar and us. Our waiters did come over eventually and brought some menus. At first we weren't sure if she was high or drunk. But probably not 2 minutes later I saw her drinking with a gentleman at the bar I guess she was testing the drink for him or they were sharing it together. Then she eventually came back to our table we started to ask about the menu items I had previously ordered a soda and she had started to do the soda and then I guess got distracted with the gentleman at the bar that she had yet to bring me my Root beer so while she was there we did inquire about that. We were still deciding on what we wanted to order to eat so we asked her a few minutes her response was I will have F off then. And I still hadn't got my Root beer so we weren't really sure if we were actually even going to get what we ordered and in a timely manner. She finally did bring my drink over but she didn't bring it the way that I had requested it and had even mentioned more than once about that she did take it away to correct it but not before giving me an evil look. Like she wanted to punch me out for requesting something so off the wall which really it wasn't. She took her time coming back over with the corrected beverage. Did take our order yet she didn't know the menu very well she kept saying it was one or the other went on the menu it said you got fries and coleslaw with the fish and chips. We didn't want to argue so we just picked one and hoped for the best given that she was so plastered we weren't even sure if we were going to get the correct order of what we ordered. I have never in my life had such rude service and then a waitress that was totally blitzed out of her mind. We did actually get the food that we ordered and it was very good but the service we received probably would deter us from returning again...
Read moreMaybe I am not that spoiled - that my husband sais it's not true. So To Basti I have to say that Restaurants like this are not a 'Take A Way' production and it is Fine for 'Us' to turn up late as we believe the whole world turns around us only and they do not have to organise or change anything because we decide that it is OK to turn up late and not such a big deal. We are all human and not perfect thoughless pieces of meat. We all have our bad days and who knows what they had to deal with behind the sence (e.g. in the kitchen). If we maybe would not have such massive outgoings to cover certain employee's who just don't turn up for work and not be able to replace them because we simple can't afford it than they would have been 2 or 3 people more serving YOU. Of course another option would be that you pay 3 times as much for your Meal!!!! Open up people and get a life... I am from overseas and I traveled for years. I live here in Australia (Queensland) for many Years - I have not seen many better places than Pointbreak... I have seen many other places as good as Pointbreak and or different but let me tell you that on the whole Gold Coast I can't picture a Restaurant right on the Beach... with always a lovely Serivce Crew that always aim to make you feel special. I can't believe that you had such a bad experience there and where are all the people like me... that could appreciate countless visits with no hassle wonderful food and a great Service? Thanks guys left your place always happy and so did my friends... Cheers Rachel from Ormeau on the way down to you...
