Wow! What a lousy experience this was on 01/10/2017 around Happy Hour. First we were to be pretty much ignored by the hostess when my friend and I entered and approached the podium for a table.
So we sat ourselves on the patio and proceeded to wait for at a good 10 minutes still without any acknowledgment. There was a gentleman that seemed to be a manager or someone in charge that fallowed us out but ignored us as well even though I had thanked him because I thought he was seating us.
I thought he was talking to us but he was just on his cell phone talking to someone else. I'm pretty sure he was management because of the way I heard him speak to the other employees at the kitchen when we had to come back in to order our drinks at the bar.
The young bartender man did not greet us as we sat down; instead we had to get his attention by making it obvious that we wanted to order by speaking as if we had just came in from the cold. He held his back towards us not readily responsive and speaking away from us instead of to us while asking what we wanted. We ordered our drinks and continued back to the balcony. He did NOT thank us for the order as I recall yet we left him a tip anyway.
Eventually after about 20 minutes or so another young man came out to ask us if we would like to order some food or something, yet with no menus in hand. His professionalism did not strike me as that of a waiter. Perhaps a bus boy or something.
The food left something to be desired and was way over price for a happy hour. Generic fish tacos, and salsa was bland and could have come from a jar. $11.00 beer ? really??
Even as we left during the short time we were there, still no acknowledgement or thanks for patronage as we passed by the podium.
I have lived in Point Loma my whole life. My father and my grandparents have taken us here when I was younger many times and we always loved it. Unfortunately if we hear about the same experience from other family and friends we will never visit your establishment again and advise others not to as well.
My friend and I have spent good money at Brigantine in Point Loma in the past but were extremely disappointed this time. I feel it is primarily due to poor management.
I want you to know I'm only being honest. Take from it what you will. It's your...
Read moreThis restaurant was just okay. When we walked in there was nobody at the hostess station and the restaurant was fairly empty. A hostess noticed us and told us we could sit in the bar or lounge area as both were open. We opted for the lounge area because the booths looked cozy for me, my husband, and daughter. We later realized (from overhearing another waitress tell a table that was seated after us and after we had ordered out food) that the menu is different for the bar. I will also say that the menu on their website was very different from the one we were given in the restaurant including food options and pricing. I got the fish and chips which was just okay and not necessarily worth going back for. My husband got the swordfish which tasted pretty good but was somewhat overcooked. My daughter got the pasta with alfredo from the kid's menu and she barely touched it. We all ordered iced tea and our bill was about $75. The restaurant was pretty empty but our waitress was far from attentive. She only offered a refill of tea when my husband's glass was empty for some time. At the end of the meal she did a walk by drop off of the ticket without offering a box for my daughter's leftovers or asking if there was anything else we needed. I will say that the restaurant was very clean which I really appreciated (obviously). Overall, the restaurant left something to be desired and I doubt I'll be returning when I go back to San Diego because there are so many other options. It is convenient if you're staying on Shelter Island and I wouldn't have minded trying a couple items on the bar menu (that we saw on our way out to our car after dinner) - like the swordfish tacos... but still not enough to put this on my "must have" list for places to eat...
Read moreThey failed in so many ways. I go in and they say seat yourself with the wave of a hand. I sit and the menu is a strip of paper with small plates only. We thought it too late to go elsewhere and just decided to consider the small plates. A few min later I ask is there a menu we don't have and the answer is yes, then nothing, staring at me. I ask to see it and the waitress says the other side of the room is for the large menu but we could still order from it. I was like, okay? We get our menus with a little confusion and I order the lobster because its a big night for our group and so did my friend. Maybe I don't read menu so carefully but the lobster was deep fried, and I mean the shell is battered and the whole thing is deep fried. So on what planet do we eat deep fried exoskeleton? The waitress just vanishes for the next 45 min. The deep fry process shrinks the lobster meat so much it was equivalent to about four shrimp worth in total amount. Deep frying also destroys the good flavors in lobster. My final bite was rotten and almost made me spew it out. I took the last few sips of my drink to clear out my mouth but no refill would come, at all for any of us. Our group was focused on business related and light hearted topics and none of us wanted to make the whole thing any worse, so we just left notes and left. We were well dressed, ready to spend a lot, had quiet conversation, but completely blown off by all staff. I had a 30 min ride back to my hotel and the aftertaste was so horrific I had to stop at Carls Jr for a strawberry shake and these little chicken wraps covered in red sauce, all just to cover up the sick flavors left in my mouth....
