We didn't know what to expect because we booked online. When our taxi arrived, a gentleman named OJ quickly approached with a huge smile to help with the luggage and show us into the lobby. We were 5 hours early from check in time and the staff welcomed us, stored our luggage and promised to have our room ready before check in since we were already there. The lobby was clean and beautiful. We truly felt welcomed, as if they had been waiting for us to arrive. We had coffee at their lobby coffee shop and it was amazing. We were also informed of their complimentary cocktail hour between 5:30-6:30. We left our luggage and walked down the street to Pike's Market. We barely started shopping when I received a text message that our room was ready for us. When we returned we were greeted with smiles and a very positive environment. The room key was gorgeous... Sleek, all black with a modern line drawing of the hotel building in gold in the front. The lobby was an interior designer's dream come true. Absolutely gorgeous. We went up to the 15th floor on the elevator and immediately were impressed, once again, with the astheitic of the hotel. The wall colors are dark and trendy, the hotel room was clean and had gorgeous design details like Edison bulbs in the lamps, matching alarm clock and coffee maker. The honor mini bar had lots of local options, to help get a taste of Seattle. The room had two large windows on adjacent walls. We could literally see the harbor beyond the buildings and city views out the other. At first the bathroom seemed a little cozier than I would have hoped for, but once I turned on the shower and got high pressure hot water, all was forgiven. The soap provided was an amazing exfoliating bar soap that smelled great and cleaned really well. I brought my therapeutic neck pillow all the way from Orlando just to find out they have 24 different pillow types to choose from, so don't bother bringing your own. The best part of our stay was the bed. It was AMAZING, and felt like a perfectly firm cloud of comfort. The matress was the best I've ever slept on at a hotel_ ever. I had space in the mini fridge for some leftovers and the staff at the front desk was kind enough to heat it for me the next morning. Excellent service, beautiful hotel, definitely five star worthy!! We will definitely stay here every time we visit Seattle...
Read moreFormerly known as the Hotel Roosevelt, the Theodore is it's (creatively titled) rebirth.
All slick lines and chalky matte-blues, the redesign is an of-the-moment Susan Marinello creation, and it wouldn't feel out of place in Portland's Society hotel — where subway tiles and grey grouting give the Jamie Oliver-esque vibe that so many young establishments covet.
With spacious beds and plenty of room to sprawl out, things are comfortable and clean in the Theodore. But the space stops with European-style bathrooms which are a squeeze at the best of times.
The stunning lobby serves aperitifs for guests, and while it's art-deco marriage with modern design works well, there's a need for some wall adornment, or even creative uplighting to elevate. As a guest i was yearning for a magazine to read, and while the Theodore's communal spaces include a great gym, slick cafe and popular restaurant, sometimes a nook with a book is what a guest really wants.
Check-in could have been quicker. Only one staff member was on during peak check-in time on a Saturday, and that meant a ten-minute wait as other guests came to collect their bags. This seemed to happen a lot, and it was surprising a porter wasn't on-hand to do the work there.
Upon check-in, my resort fee was kindly waived after I voiced that this wasn't advertised until after I'd paid my fees. The staff were lovely, and extremely apologetic, but this is no doubt a fee that will catch many guests out, as more and more hotels try to claw back margins claimed by competitive third-party booking sites like Priceline.
Generally speaking, the friendly staff did seem very stressed out and constantly hustling to try and keep up, like the new workings of a hotel were a challenge. But that's alright — it takes a little time for anyone to get their groove on.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Theodore, and having already stayed there when it was the Roosevelt I can safely say i'd definitely be back. The hotel's redesign has obviously got it's sights set on four stars, and there's no reason why it shouldn't be with a little more attention to the finer details.
From what i saw the exceptional standards of cleanliness were upheld throughout, and there we no signs of any pests...just be prepared for a tight squeeze in the bathroom and keep an eye out for...
Read moreHorrible experience! For our 45th wedding anniversary we “planned” a weekend trip to downtown Seattle for a little get a way. We choose the Roosevelt Hotel based on its rich history and service. When calling the hotel for a reservation months ahead of time, I was informed they were out of all rooms except for the Penthouse. Being a special anniversary we decide to really go all out, nice hotel, Pike Place Market, dinner at the Met and a show. So we booked the Penthouse suite room, secured it with the CC, and received a confirmation number. When the big day arrived we checked with the front desk at noon, they took our luggage until check in at 3:00PM. My husband had informed the front desk staff he was expecting flowers for me on our special weekend and to please have them sent to our Penthouse suite. After we came back from the market to check in, we were informed that our Penthouse suite would not be available for the evening. I said this could not be possible as I had a confirmation number in hand and used a CC to secure the room. The front desk said we would NOT be allowed to check in. I quickly asked for the manager, who was not there on a Saturday. The staff was able to offer a slight discount in the elusive regular room that did not exist previously. There was no effort in any way to assist in finding us another room at any partnered hotels at all, just a simple “sorry” and walk away. Needless to say, this was ruined the weekend, and our 45th wedding anniversary. All other hotels we full, forcing us to leave early. The next day the manager called me, made some excuse about a computer mix up as if that was to be understandable, however too little and too late. Just because you have a confirmation number and secured with a CC, don’t...
