DENISE!!! She's the best, so was/is Michael D!
They made SURE, went above and beyond, out of their way, to make my stay impeccable. They are the definition of legendary customer service. The biggest reason I'd come back again.
Please note I typically check in pretty late, from the hours between 11p.m.-2 a.m. They were still so lively and inviting.
There were a couple other gentlemen that parked my car/picked it up. Absolutely lovely, prim, proper, genuine, just cool. Maybe it's just me vibing with my night owl peeps.
This historic landmark hotel is located in the heart of downtown Seattle celebrating 92 years of service. You can feel the old soul and the presence of many untold stories in the walls and whispers of this building. This classy, antique furnished, high towered time capsule, has so much personality. Reknownly known for the swanky martini bar.
I like the heavy curtains, wall to wall of mirrors, well placed windows for people watching, in the action settings of downtown Seattle, large bed, and great room setup.
Their restaurant is fantabulous. I never liked angel hair pasta sooo much, that, and their garlic fries, woof! They don't mess around with the garlic though. Never a dully bland soggy fry.
Originally, I came here before, New Year's Day, and the lady then barely spoke a word, didn't make eye contact, didn't talk about the menus, wifi, nothing... It's as if she was pained to be there. I feel bad for her, and still hope she's okay. 2020 has been hard for a lot of people.
The suite was beautiful though, two bathrooms, spacious, private, if you want to have an extra guest, you can close the door and there's a separate bathroom comfy couch and television. Set.
The view! Gawd, mind blowing. It felt like I was in a dream amongst the clouds.
Then, leaving, these two gentlemen were borderline clueless. They didn't even know I left after staunchly saying, "I'm leaving thank you for the stay." I had to come back for something I left behind, it was bizarre. Perhaps just a chaotic time during a busy season.
Michael was there, on New Years Day too. He was absolutely stellar then, too; like the only person who was mentally, "there." Please give that man a raise.
That's why the situation was so confusing the time previously. Like, there may have been tension, complicated guests...?
I understand, I've worked in hospitality and retail over half my life. That's why I gave this place another chance. :)
Denise was just so delightful too, she made such an impact on my stay. Just with her, and everything that she did, made me feel welcome. That made up for anything that happened prior.
Just a tip, when you stay, get, "Screen Mirroring," to cast Netflix etc. There's another way to do it, I had to turn on hot spot, and do some other things. It was complicated, two hours later I figured it out and wrote down the process on a random piece of paper just to be lost in translation.
Do yourself a favor and download an app if you don't want to flip through basic cable. ;)
Will visit again. Hopefully soon for another serene staycation and change...
Read moreFirst off, 5 stars to the staff. I very much appreciated the service I received in every regard. Secondly, 4.5 stars to the upkeep, then 3.5 to the hotel. This is a fairly old hotel and is kept well. I have a few nitpicks that I won't mention, mostly because I'm very picky.
My room was rather small and lacked a few features that I'm used to with newer hotels (refrigerator, kitchenette, etc). The HD TV was barely a step above SD and couldn't reasonably be seen from the bed due to limitations from the viewing angle (the picture nearly blacked out just because of the angle), and there really wasn't anywhere else in the room for two people to comfortably view the TV (there was 1 chair and a bed).
In reality, the room was simply more suited to one person than two. The bed was advertised as queen-sized but felt like it was full-sized (my feet don't ordinarily hang off the end of a queen-sized bed, but they did here). I found myself waiting several times for my girlfriend to move from standing at the end of the bed just so I could walk around--I've had fewer issues in an RV.
Being 6'2", I appreciate a high-placed shower, but sadly, I didn't have one. I had to bend over just to get my shoulders wet which meant I was bent about 60-75 degrees to shampoo my hair. My estimate is that the shower is perfect for someone of 5'4" or less. Otherwise, the bathroom was quite small and lacked general space to place common toiletries (for two).
What else was good? The location is very good with respect to general access to Seattle. Besides being on several major bus routes, both the Light Rail and the Monorail are right next door. It's just a few blocks from Pike's market and is walking distance from other common attractions--great food, music, shopping, pubs, etc.
I was appalled, though, by the transient culture in every direction. You cannot step a half-block comfortably... that is, check your pockets and make sure that all of your personal belongings are securely stowed. Within one block you'll likely dodge a few clouds of marijuana smoke (some of you might find that appealing, but I do not). And if you are out the door before 8:am, you'll find people sleeping on the sidewalks. This is not a problem of the hotel, but you will be charged $2/night for tourist improvements despite the corruption thereabout.
The bottom line is, if you're travelling with someone, make sure you get a larger room (if they have one). Be prepared for the evolving, inner-city life in Seattle. Step back, then step forward and enjoy the town, and finish your day with a martini or an old-fashioned at Oliver's before you retire for the day. Finally, say hi to...

Tho it needs some modernization and bathrooms could use an update - it’s a fair deal. The bar on site is fantastic with great service and again better than expected food for a bar (read my review on it! )
What’s more memorable about this hotel was one person’s humanity and empathy that saved me from being stranded in downtown Seattle at 1AM when my red-eye flight got canceled. With no other flights available I had to return to city and immediately thought of this hotel so I had the Lyft take me there. This was my first one in Seattle post-pandemic and didn’t quite realize how dangerous and weird of a city it has become sadly. Upon arrival i could not even enter the hotel because all doors were locked for safety. If that doesn’t say anything dunno what does. Luckily one of the attendants spoke to me thru the door and said they have no vacancy but I should walk to nearby Westin. So I did only to find that pitch dark and none opening a door none on sight. I returned to the hotel only place I knew at this point and the female attendant wouldn’t even open the door to me despite knowing I had stayed with them the night before. This is when Michael B., the only other human present at the desk that night decided to help this stranded person - me! He not only helped me book a room online at Westin but walked me in person and delivered me to a person there to ensure my safety. As we walked there we encountered several people screaming and out of their minds - by now it was 3am in the morning. I cannot express my gratitude to Michael for what he did for me that night. While the female attendant sent me into the darkness and was not willing to open the door second time - thank God Michael was there. So… if you are visiting Seattle, stay at this hotel and say hi to Michael - a great human being who wouldn’t let a fellow human destitute.
Michael B. if you are reading this...
