I have been visiting the Sandpiper Beach Club for over 20 years. Don't let the age fool you, the facilities have been maintained very well and have received many upgrades over the years. This resort sits right on the private section of Siesta Key, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. Right off the bat you will notice the powdery white sand (which is made from quartz), which never gets hot. The beach has a series of sand bars which makes it ideal for families with smaller children (who can enjoy the water at a shallow level). Being on the Gulf, Siesta Key offers gorgeous sunsets. These, accompanied by the soft sand makes for an enjoyable/relaxing evening on the beach. Lounge chairs are provided to the residents and are available at the end of the private boardwalk that connects the resort to the beach.
In addition to the beach, The Sandpiper offers a nice pool (6' depth in the deep end and 3' in the shallow). Next to the pool is the large whirlpool which is nice and hot. I would like to add that the pool was scheduled for resurfacing on June 25th 2012. Next to the pool and whirlpool, lies a covered recreational area complete with tables, chairs, picnic tables and 3 grills. To add to the convenience, grilling utensils are provided right next to the grills.
On the 1st floor, the resort offers an exorcise room, filled with modern equipment and even a sauna room. Next door to the gym is a game room that contains a pool table and various electronic games. Moving along the first floor, you will find a full sized tennis court and basketball goals.
On to the rooms! Each room features a Living room, Dining area, Kitchen, covered balcony, Master bedroom with King sized bed and a huge master bath with a whirlpool tub. last but not least, there is also a guest bedroom with two twin-sized beds and a full bath.
Internet access is provided by WiFi (which was just upgraded to better equipment). Signals seem to be good throughout the building, the weakest spots being the covered balconies.
The Sandpiper Beach Club, although it offers many amenities stands out to be one of the best places to spend a relaxing vacation without the frustration of cramped space and crowded beaches. It is truly a stress-free environment.
In closing, if I would have to list one complaint, it would be that security locks the access gates to the pool area and the beaches after 11:00 and does not re-open them until 7:00 the next morning (which may actually be a...
Read moreWe recently stayed at this resort over Labor Day weekend. Initially upon entering room 404, It appeared clean and spacious. The furniture was a mix of outdated and new but overall the room was well kept. One of my daughters slept on the pull out sofa bed. The first night she found a crawling insect however we did not think anything of it since we are used to seeing insects by the beach. The morning after the second night she woke up with large welts on her face, arms, back and leg. I immediately thought of Bedbugs!! Sure enough, I pulled the sheets off and looked under the mattress pad and low and behold a small crawling bedbug! That Monday was Labor Day and the office was closed but I called the next day to inform management. The manager admitted to me they have had issues with them before. Great! I thought. But I was happy that they would be addressing the issue so the next guest did not have to go through the extensive headache we were going through making sure these bugs are not introduced into our home. The following day, I receive a call from the manager informing me that their house keeper nor their “pest control company” saw any signs of Bedbugs. Even telling me the bites could have been from noseeums!! I know what noseeums are and I know what I saw and recorded and took pictures of. I guess I should have bottled the little sucker and left it on the counter for them to see! I almost wish he had not called because it really ruined my day. Maybe once they see the pictures here, they will see what I saw. On another note, the beach is of course gorgeous and we went snorkeling at point of rocks and saw tons of fish. We rented a paddle board from Siesta Key Bike and Kayak and they were wonderful. They brought it right to the resort. We didn’t use the pool but it seemed nice. I hate to say we will NOT be staying...
Read moreNOT family friendly. Management was unaccommodating and incredibly rude. We asked for a few extra blankets and the response was “ sorry, that’s all you get” Maid tried to enter the room without knocking over an hour before checkout. Then the rude calls began telling us we needed to get out. Blankets and sheets were dingy and most blankets had holes. My daughter had an allergic reaction to something in the room. She had respiratory issues each night when we were in the room. Probably mold in the carpet that hasn’t been updated in at least 20 years.Pool and beach were nice, but we were treated so terribly each time we had contact with the office. Management (Doug) burst into our room and raised his voice telling us to get out and continued to yell at us as we gathered our things. He walked through every room while we tried to get out of his way. I have NEVER been treated so terribly or ever seen a grown man treat women and children with such disregard. It scared my children. They need new management. There is a reason that they always have rooms for rent during the busy season. Owners at this property should be very upset and aware that their renters were treated this way and will not...
