A 3 night minimum meant my husband and me had 1 night and my daughter and son in law a nice weekend away. We spoke to management at least 2 times telling them that we were sharing the room. They said no problem. Upon arriving noted steep stairs to get to our room. Room was small but adequate and clean. Chair was old & ripped and furniture poorly painted. Breakfast was ok. It's not a bed and breakfast. It's an inn. Breakfast choices were a checklist. It was fine. the kicker was when we went to leave and return keys, management said they were now going to charge us to change the sheets for my children! Our response: "You're kidding"! They knew about this and never mentioned a charge. Since we already spent a fortune for these 3 nights, I was shocked. The "owner" kept talking about his business model! I told him his business model should be one of transparency and not coming up with charges as you leave! He should have told us when we booked the room months ago of the additional charge. I don't think I would have minded it then but as we were leaving! He said there were no notes on our reservation about sharing the room. So I guess whoever we booked with never thought to write that down. Come on! Nickeling and diming your guests is not the way to go. Hospitality 101, the guest should not be surprised. He needed to absorb the price of hiring someone to change the sheet, have them sent away to be washed and then returned to him ( he made that business model very clear many times!) Causing a confrontation as we leave is just not a good business model. Location was great. Parking was down the block. Not enough parking for guests. I couldn't call our stay poor. Our children said things for fine for them. Easy to get chairs for the beach.Go back? Would you? Maybe I should have changed the sheets myself! We left so angry that I was hoping they weren't going to take it out on our children when...
Read moreThe Ocean House has become our home away from home. After many stays here, we do not want to go anywhere else (and we don’t)! When entering this charming inn with its huge front porch, you are immediately greeted by friendly, helpful staff eager to ensure you have a wonderful time. Jared and Colleen (the owners) and every single staff person I have ever met helps make this place what it is.||The bedrooms are large, the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and the AC (each room has its own) works perfectly. The bathroom (along with the rest of the inn) is immaculately clean. A block from the ocean with its wide boardwalk and white sand beach, and four blocks from town with several great restaurants, a vacation here is simple, relaxing and free from frenzy.||Breakfast is different every day and the menu has dishes to please any palate (eggs, overnight oats, quinoa, frittatas, yogurts, fruit and delicious pastries, etc)— all made in-house. While you pre-order your breakfast, you can have as much as you like. Lunches we purchased in town and kept in the refrigerators provided for guest usage. Dinners were always in town (Whispers and Spring Lake Seafood are our favorites). All this to say, we park our car and never need it again until it is time to leave. ||The Ocean House is a real gem! We have traveled the world all over and the Ocean House...
Read moreThis was our second time at Ocean House and it was just as good as the first. We were aware of the no elevator and limited on site parking and for us neither one was a problem. ||The breakfast was always good and we had a lot of choices on the daily menu. We had breakfast on the large porch every morning. There is also water, iced tea and coffee available all day. ||Our third floor room was quiet, had a comfortable bed and a good shower with plenty of hot water. Only one note that there are not as many outlets as we would have liked but we had charging cords that handled multiple devices so we made it work. ||We had no problem getting towels, chairs or umbrellas. The beach was a short walk away and is clean and relatively quiet. No boardwalk amusements makes for a quieter, more relaxing experience. ||We did walk to town a few times for dinner and snacks. We also walked to another restaurant about 1.5 miles away. Great neighborhood place with great food, service and music. As a bonus there was a famous ice cream place just down the road that we went to for dessert.||The staff was helpful in giving us information and directions. Everyone was courteous and seemed to like their jobs. That goes a long way for customer service. We hope to return...
