Let me start by saying the staff is very friendly and helpful. But.... My check in was at 3:00pm and the front desk was closed so I had to wait for 20 minutes. I had a mobility scooter rental delivered there and they kept it safe and ready for me to use. But it would have been nice if I didn't have to wait to check in. My room was very comfortable except for being under the steps going to the second floor. Everytime someone went up or down them I would hear loud footsteps. There is nothing in the way of noise canceling in the walls so I heard every band, voice and even a couple getting busy above me. I reserved a accessable room which it sort of was. The shower had a seat but it wouldn't fit cause it was a tub n shower combo. Not sure the thinking on that. I can't stand to shower so that didn't happen. There was some sort of contraption on the toilet. I figured out that it was an aftermarket bidea but it wasn't hooked up to water and I didn't have any tools so it just was there. The remote for the TV had no batteries or lid to said remote so TV was unusable. Not that I was going to use it. It said online they had HBO but the menu of channels didn't show it so I didn't bother. The bed was very nice to sleep in. The pool was very nice too. The last time stayed there they had a hot tub but I guess it broke down or something cause they boarded it up. But at least I was able to bathe in the pool being I couldn't use the shower in my room. Breakfast was interesting. They have a matching that makes pancakes. Two at a time in just 1 minute. Pretty tasty too. Fruit loops and corn flakes coffee, hot water for tea and instant oatmeal. Orange juice, milk and yogurt. Pretty basic but ok. Just the coffee is just plain awful and the orange juice wasn't sweet. I had to add a lil sweet n low to it. Had the breakfast my first day. Skipped it the second. I really liked that the vending machines had quite the options. Refrigerated snack and assorted microwave meals. Frozen options too. Like Klondike bars and ice cream sandwiches. And the drink machine had bothCoke and Pepsi as well as other soda choices. Also milk, chocolate milk and several juices and energy drinks too. So that was a big highlight. All in all it's a nice place to lay your head for a night. If you have a cooler and need ice they've got ice makers full of fresh ice. And mini refrigerators that can hold a week's worth of food. Heat and Ac worked just fine. Just wish the shower had a usable seat. It would have made my stay...
Read moreDearest Mother, As the toil of war still looms in the distance our unit took over the land just outside of the city. We make our way to push toward the town center tomorrow. General Grant gave this night to rest in a shelter just off the road.
This was indeed a HUMBLE shelter, Mother.
While the people who occupied the area were pleasant and nice, the conditions of the surrounding place were no more than that pitching a tent outside Devil's Den. Water spots haunted my dreams from the ceiling above. Insects of unknown origin and questionable characters crawled over out table during breakfast hoping for their own morsel.
However, I will say the bed was better than a straw mat, and the sleeping area did have a mattress cover which I truly appreciate as to prevent vermin from gathering in the corners and disrupting the sleep.
Mother, I truly have seen the horrors of not only the battlefield but also the sleeping arrangements at this lodging. I can only hope the new proprietors will invest time and energy to make it a glorious spot for respite in the future and generations of families to come.
I can only hope General Grant will give us a better place to sleep in the future.
Kiss sister for me and give my love to Pa.
With much affection and...
Read moreMy heart goes out to any hotel that reaches 87% to 94% reseved capacity on the wknds . This hotel is staffed by some really caring people. Lets start out with my personal favorite take aways. My family needed to stay in the area 3 -4 nights a week for several months not long ago. We were always greeted with morning smiles, friendly faces. hot fresh breakfasts , and puppy loved all the attention. The hotel made several upgrades through out our stay as well. Repainting the entire exterior, new LED lighting outside and in the lobby, better choices for breakfast including waffle maker, scrambled eggs, bacon and sauages. yummy. coffee in the main lobby and refreshing fruit water for non cofee drinkers. The entire parking lot was just sealed and re lined for a distinct look. I even noticed brand pinic tables and greenery.. And yes folks NO BUGS so not sure what a few saw but I'd guess with over 300 staying weekly your bound to get some untidy folks or complainers .. Glad to have met "Sam" and his friendly staffing.. I pray Blessing and increase over the Baymont and their hard workers.. Will be...
