Ahha was awesome! I actually thought we were going to see an interactive Christmas themed exhibit and was pleasantly surprised to find out we would be be visiting The Experience. It was still an interactive floor and much different than anything I've ever seen in an art museum. My partner in crime found it scary but I thought it was enjoyably odd (:
If I had to explain the exhibit to anyone debating visiting before it closes on December 29th, I would say it was made by/for people interested or currently on psychedelic drugs. Very weird. Very fun. Little kids might get creeped out, but nothing inappropriate. The Experience suggests you wear glasses similar to 3D shades making the various colors and patterns really POP out and grab your attention.
The workshop floor was also a surprise. I thought there would be 3 floors of exhibits but the 3rd was a place to contribute your own creative pieces and I found that both fun and challenging. The have a reinvented gumball machine that provides you with a spark of creativity should you lack your own and I can't say how much I liked that. It led to another half hour of fun conversations and a horrible attempt at a neck tie.
After this visit, I'd definitely be interested in checking out future exhibits at Ahha the next time I'm in Tulsa and looking for...
Read moreGood experience overall but they charged full price when they had a whole entire floor closed. There were pieces broken on the whole second floor but the lights were very fascinating. When my family made it to the third floor we had a good experience at first. We borrowed a hot glue gun from 2 people and they were FINE with it and told us we could use it. After about 5 minutes an employee came up to us and took the glue gun from us and gave it back to the people saying “I’m so sorry that happened!”even though they didn’t ask for it back. The employee could have been nicer about it but we just continued working on our projects. After the 2 people left we used the glue gun until we were done. When we were about to leave we were told that we had to clean up, even though we already had. We tried to clean up better, but we had seen people leave without cleaning up at all. When we got on the elevator the rude employee made a snarky comment saying “There are instructions on how to clean up” There were no instructions, at least that we could see. And it seemed the other employees were helping other...
Read moreI'd give the artists 5 stars, but the staff? 0. If you are blessed enough to work for a wonderful art museum with unique interactive art, you should be proud and happy to work for the place. There were two workers up front and they both talked to someone for over 10 minutes while we just waited. They were just having a friendly conversation and didn't care that we had to wait. They saw us. They weren't busy. One could have easily helped and sent us on our way as the other talked. They just ignored us. It was VERY rude. And the person on the 3rd floor didn't help or greet anyone but did complain about cleaning up a mess.....of course it's messy.....it's ART. Hire people more grateful and engaged and proud of art. It's not a hard job.
However the second floor was AMAZING. And the 3rd floor had a LOT of resources and fun prompts. Go early and plan a day there so you can lay back and enjoy the art and create art. It's a wonderful place. Also very kid friendly! Hopefully next time I go different people...
