Oklahoma is a state I have passed through several times, but I have only bothered to stop and check out specific attractions on a few occasions. One of my stopovers was for beer and lunch with the family and the establishment was Elgin Park Brewery in Tulsa.
Elgin Park Brewery is a larger establishment than expected with an outdoor space and large windows that can be opened up during the warmer times of the year, revealing additional space for people to sit. The inside features plenty of natural light, which is cool, and the brewhouse is visible in one corner. This establishment is a restaurant as much as it is a brewery and this makes it ideal for a family pitstop for lunch or dinner.
This brewpub is located directly next to ONEOK field, a baseball stadium used by the Tulsa Drillers, a minor league team. With its close distance to the ballpark, Elgin Park Brewery is a popular place for a pre- game or post- game meal or beer, and I would bet it’s a hopping place during games.
Sports is the main theme at Elgin Park Brewery. The establishment’s logo features a baseball diamond and there are plenty of televisions on the inside showing the latest in sports. Not only that, but Elgin’s also has several games to play, like electronic basketball and other games. This makes it ideal for the sports buffs among us.
With the house- brewed beers, you will find an assortment to try at Elgin Brewery. What they offer isn’t as extensive as the selection found at other breweries, but it is good enough to satisfy. Besides brewing several tasty beers, Elgin Park is also a restaurant. They serve food options like pre- game appetizers, salads, soups, burgers and sandwiches, chicken wings, pizza; etc. The menu is limited, which is fine by me- I don’t like having to many selections because it takes away from the time that should be spent enjoying my beer. We ordered mozzarella sticks when I visited plus a pizza. We liked what we tried and I especially liked the pairing of the house pilsner with the pizza pie.
Tulsa, Oklahoma isn’t a place most of this think about when we think of travel and tourism but Elgin Park Brewery is proof positive that we need to think about Tulsa more than we do, at least when it comes to food and brew. They serve some tasty suds and good food with a sports- centric atmosphere that is perfect for those who like to watch a game while they...
Read moreI generally like McNellies restaurants but was disappointed with Elgin Park. This was my second visit and I avoided doing a review on the first visit chalking my experience up to a bad day but given that the food was marginal again, I went ahead and reviewed. I ordered a turkey sandwich that comes with avocado. I added bacon and cheese which made it look a little more substantial but even with that addition, I was very disappointed with the size of a $13 sandwich: two thin slices of turkey, a little spring mix, two slices of tomato and enough avocado to make the bread tinted green but not any actual avocado was observed. The fries were good. Also, it was supposed to have mayo but they appeared to squirt some ranch on it instead. The bun was cold rather than toasted so it was essentially a hard roll. Did I complain? No. Simply because it felt like there wasn’t a reason for it if the server saw the sandwich and nothing looked out of the ordinary. I feel like when something tastes off or is cooked wrong, that’s one thing a server can’t see. However when they pick something up at the counter and walk it over to you, if it looks the way they normally see it then it must be the way it always is prepared so why bother complaining. That’s the standards the kitchen works to and I just won’t bother returning. Also, they up charge for fries but the manager adjusted for that given that the online menu doesn’t represent that fact. So food gets 2 stars but I’m giving service 4 to average out at a 3. My previous experience was a 3 as well due to a poorly prepared salad. This place just doesn’t meet the high marks I’ve become accustomed to from McNellies properties around town (and I...
Read moreI just had a very poor experience eating there tonight. I ordered a side salad with my meal instead of chips and the server didn’t tell me there was a $5 up charge for this. The only other up charge listed in the menu was $2 for fries and she didnt say anything about there being a charge for the salad. Me and other guests at the table thought $5 was a lot for an up charge and was surprised when I saw it on the bill. So when I questioned the charge to the server she apologized and said her manager could remove it. Then the manager comes over and tells me that that I should have expected an up charge and that it stated it in the menu and that the server also told me. When I informed the manager I was not told about the up charge she then continues to argue with me and tell me that I must not have heard her. When I corrected her several times saying she didn’t tell me she continued to tell me I must not have heard her. This was extremely rude of the manager to argue with the customer and basically tell me I’m lying and took zero ownership of the situation at all. I hope this is not normal service for this restaurant and will not...
