I don't know how many of you have (or have had) four kids under the age of 12, but the time spent together in the car during a road trip with such a crew is magical...who am I kidding! It's like sitting in a box full of territorial cats! Between the "I'm hungry!", "I'm going to pee!", "His elbow won't stop touching me!", constant howling, and yes, even vomiting (twice!!) from an 18-month-old - all while driving for 5 hours in stop-and-go traffic just to travel 100 miles of a 750-mile trip would even test the tenacity of Chuck Norris! Needless to say, it was getting late and we were not Chuck Norris.
Luckily, we quickly found a Hotel in a nearby city. We were able to easily book a room through our phone, arrived with a very quick check-in, and the rooms looked amazing...just like their pictures! The best part, after getting everyone washed up and off to bed, was how comfortable the beds were - which must have been magnified by that day's events (and smells) of traveling through a medieval war-torn stretch of chaos, also known as a family road trip.
Thank you, Choice Hotels, for literally saving our family! For any of those brave souls out there that are planning their next family road trip with young kids, trust me, unless you're Chuck Norris, I highly recommend...no, more than that...I request for the sanity of everything living, book multiple hotels during your road trip to break up the time. It's really not that much more and your trip will actually...
Read moreAbsolutely miserable experience at this Comfort Suites on New Year's Eve. Arrived at the hotel (7-8PM) to find the building all dark. Figured it was a power outage so we go grab something to eat and kill some time. 1.5 hours later we check back and the power is still gone. Contact Choice Hotels who have no information at all for customers and suddenly it is 1030PM and we are told we cannot stay there and we "may" get a refund.
Any reputable company would realize they made a mistake and offered to comp us a room (there were unsold rooms at 1130PM on NYE). We offer to drive anywhere from Victorville to LA and they still want to charge us well over 50% more than what we paid for our room that we never got in Victorville. After hours on customer service we are told it's a shame we can't get a room even when they have rooms available in other Choice Hotel locations. We were left without a hotel at 1145PM on New Years Eve. To make up for this, they offered ~$14 in Choice Hotel points, not even a quarter of the price of a hotel. Terrible customer service, miserable experience, and would not stay at here or any other Choice Hotel locations again. If you book here, pray you don't have to deal with customer service.
Power outages happen, that is fine. What is not fine is not telling your customers about it and leaving them stranded to to find a room at 11:45PM on New Years Eve when you know there are open rooms at other Choice Hotels. 0/5...
Read moreDownside: My family arrived at about 7:00 to check in. It was myself, my husband, and my sons: 12, 11, and 3.5. Being that it was a long drive and we had been in the car most of the day and hungry, my 3.5 year old was a little cranky and was crying when we arrived to our room. Less than 15 minutes, my husband received a phone call from the front about a noise complaint. I have stayed at many hotels with my children and have never once received a complaint about noise. I found it very poor behavior on the front desk to call my room, knowing we had quite literally just checked in. Was I supposed to take my toddler outside when it is 35 degrees? The front desk could have chosen to wait a few minutes before reaching out before making my family feel unwelcome. It made the rest of our hotel stay very stressful. What I took out of this, is this hotel was far from a family friendly hotel. Even as a business hotel I find complaining to another customer at 7:15P for "noise" unreasonable. It was not even 10:00 at night - standard "quiet hours". Also, the drain stopper for the bath tub did not stay plugged. I couldn't properly use the tub for the 3 year old because the tub wouldn't stop. Upside: The beds were comfortable, the climate control was pretty good (albeit the unit a little outdated). I enjoyed the 24 hour coffee in the lobby and little hotel shop with snack shop. The room was accommodating for a family of 5 with two queens and a...
