RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!
I should have listened to the reviews I read before I booked. I traveled solo and very easy to please, I can't make how upsetting this experience was!
NO AIRCONDITIONING / NO LOCK ON MY HOTEL DOOR / NO INVOICE TO PROVE MY STAY / NO ACCOUNTABILITY FROM MANAGEMENT.
My name is Daryl, and I recently stayed at the Spark by Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, located at 705 Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. My reservation was from June 21st to June 23rd, and I booked through a third-party site, Booking.com. As part of their promotion, Booking.com agreed to reimburse a portion of my stay, provided I submit an invoice showing a zero-dollar balance.
Unfortunately, I forgot to request an invoice upon checkout on June 23rd. I called the hotel later that same day while driving back to North Carolina and explained the situation to the front desk. The representative acknowledged my request and assured me that the invoice would be emailed to me shortly. However, I never received it.
I followed up after a few days and was informed by Manager Deepa that due to a new system implementation, they no longer had access to past invoices. She said it would take approximately 7–10 days to retrieve the necessary data. Deepa collected my information (name, stay dates, email, and phone number) and assured me that it would be forwarded to her supervisors so I could receive the invoice once access was restored.
I patiently waited and called again, only to be told that she still had no update and could not provide any contact information for her supervisors. She again collected my information and said she would follow up. I have yet to receive any response or resolution from her.
I called the hotel again and was told the manager on duty, Raj, was in a meeting. I asked to speak with someone in charge, but my call was never returned. I find this lack of accountability and communication from the management team to be extremely frustrating and unacceptable. It has been an entire month and someone's needs to be held accountable!
In addition to this issue, I would like to note that during my entire stay, there was no air conditioning in my room. I reported this to the front desk, and while maintenance was sent to check on it, the problem was never resolved. When I returned later in the day, the room was still hot, and I was told that maintenance had already left for the day. I was also concerned to discover that my door had no working deadbolt, meaning my room was never securely locked.
This entire experience has been incredibly disappointing. I urgently advise you to...
Read moreyou get EXACTLY what you paid for (and nothing more)
tldr: absolutely disgusting but if you want to save money and don’t plan on being in the room much, this is good for you
if you’re broke college kids (us) and you don’t have the money to book a better hotel, this hotel is perfect, if you’re any other demographic, you’re going to hate it.
pros: extremely cheap, right next to beach, staff is super nice, pool, pretty good bed tbh, pet friendly (potentially a con if you don’t have one and they're barking, but we were fine)
cons: sticky floors (we had to wear shoes or we’d get our feet gross), bathroom didn’t have a handle, couch was disgusting (photos), gum all over railing on balcony, hair dryer didn’t work, shower hadn’t been cleaned for a while and moldy (?), elevator was crazy scary and also disgusting (bite marks???) they had public bathrooms but no lock (just a zip tie you had to hold), phone had no buttons & didn’t work, ice machine didn’t work, lastly the landlord special everywhere even on the microwave & tv, also in the air conditioner (which we gave a 50/50 chance of actually being black mold and not paint)
but possibly the most annoying part was that they only gave us 2 shower towels and we immediately needed more and had to dry off with the bedsheets…and there was no room service so we couldn’t even ask
they were also instaling new floors which caused it to be super dusty but that’s not that big of a deal since they’re atleast attempting to improve the place i guess
i’ve also seen a few other reviews saying the staff was rude but we had a pretty good experience with them so maybe we got lucky. we thankfully didn’t need to get a refund (since we expected this based on the reviews) which meant we didn’t have to get skimped out of our money like the...
Read moreThis is truly a slum hotel that will not reimburse your money. When we arrived after a 2 hour drive the condition of the hotel was horrible. The lobby and hallway was a mess with building supplies. The beds were dirty she said it was rust on the sheets but it was something else stuck to the sheet and comforter and moldy. We did not get ocean front that we paid for it was view. Boy what a disgusting view! The pool was disgusting with ducks swimming. The side of the hotel was crumbling. The glasses had not been washed in months or possibly years. I asked to please cancel my reservations we could stay under these conditions and were told they would and refund 20.00 parking fee. I had to call Booking.com several times to find out the hotel would not refund my money. I had to pay more money for another hotel which cost me 100.00 more due to change of the seasonal rates. The pictures on the website are totally misleading. They will lie to you about making refunding money to get you to leave. The owner will disappear so she will not have to deal with you. I really did not want to leave 1 star but it's the only...
