Tangier Island: A Stunning Escape to a Secluded Fishing Village 🏝️🚤

Just stayed the weekend and was so disappointed. Had 2 rooms and bathrooms were gross. We arrived at 3:15 and told by the lady at desk that we can’t get in til 4. Wasn’t very pleasant. Cafe on site not as pictured on website. Actually nothing is. Tiles on floor are loose and when you walk on them they crack. There was a wrapper from a lunchable on the ramp by the cafe for our entire stay. Obviously no one sweeps. I was told owner is not on premises. Maybe they should be. Ceiling in my son’s room leaking. I was so embarrassed as I have stayed at other places and they were nothing like this. I don’t know how they pass inspection. Would not recommend this place at all.

Stayed at this place for a couple nights. Super close to the beach, a little bit of a hike to the boardwalk but for the price it’s understandable. Clean, decent sized rooms. Love that the coffee shop is so close even though it’s very crowded. 4 stars instead of 5 because there werent blankets on the bed (just two very thin sheets) and two pillows per bed. Had to pay for ice and most of the staff in the office was nice but one man in particular was rude to one of my friends.

Never Again. Horrible Beds. Rude and Unwelcoming Owners. This was our second visit to this motel. Last year, we really enjoyed the motel and how friendly its owners were. This time I felt like I was in a totally different place. This time, when we tried talking to the owners about a problem we were having they were extremely rude, mocking what we were saying.

This time, the beds were rock hard. My elderly mother and two children and I were all in pain every single night. The mattresses were that uncomfortable. The pillows were completely flat. You could not get a good night sleep. For my 14 year old to by crying asking me to never take him here again...that's pretty bad. He felt it was the most uncomfortable, dirtiest place and hated every second of it.

Instead of trying to look into any type of solution, or even expressing any compassion in any way, the owner's wife who never got up from where she was sitting, just barked at us in a shrill voice that all the mattresses were the same, there was no where she could put us. Meanwhile her creepy son/husband whoever she had at the desk just smirked at us with the biggest I don't give a darn grin on his face. My Mom and I couldn't have been nicer about trying to talk to them to find any type of solution to make our stay more bearable. They wanted no parts of it.

Um, I get that if all of your mattresses are the cheapest, most uncomfortable you can find that it’s the best you've got. But they didn't even try and suggest additional pillows, a mattress pad, nothing. They could not have been more unpleasant about it.

I always try to be polite if I have a problem. And rather than giving a bad review, I try and talk nicely to the owners of a place to give them an opportunity to address the issue. I tried with these people. My Mom tried. They couldn't be bothered. It's fine if you can't do anything, but you don't have to be rude about it. My Mother agreed that they could care less. They got their money. Seriously, the owner’s wife couldn't even get up and talk to us face to face. She hid behind a partition while one of her housekeepers stood next to her making faces about us and acting like we were the most annoying guests.

It's almost the end of the season, what do they care. The worse was that as we left, we could hear them LAUGHING at us and our problem. Thanks you guys. This was our second visit and there will never be a third. You can be total jerks to some other unsuspecting travelers. We will spend our money elsewhere.

They have free Wifi but it’s a joke....it barely works. The room was filthy. I was willing to overlook that because you were on the first floor of a beach motel. The bathroom is dated. There is a sign telling you to hold the handle down to flush the toilet. Not putting any money into repairs obviously. Our ceiling had a big gaping crack in it. I'm sure it was moldy in there. When I looked under the sheets at the mattress protector there was hair on it, and it wasn't mine. The towels were super thin and scratchy. I bet people have been using those same towels since 1976. Again, I'd overlook this normally because its end of season and a block from the beach. But these are the facts.

Hard to believe this place changed so much in just a year's time. It went from somewhere I really enjoyed to somewhere that felt dirty, uncomfortable and unwelcoming. We couldn't stand it. Rather than stay as planned til Friday, we packed up on Wednesday rather than be subjected to this place.

If you enjoy sleeping in a filthy dirty room on a rock-like mattress in an unwelcoming environment with rude owners...then the Tangier Motel is the perfect...

Upon check-in, the staff was very friendly, made us feel welcome, and gave us parking tips. We had 3 major issues during our stay for Memorial Day Weekend. Although, they addressed the issues, it was a big inconvenience for us. First, the heater did not work and we slept in a chilly room all night. Because we got in pretty late the first night, we didn’t contact the main desk until the next morning. We had to leave while they replaced the system and it threw a big wrench into our plans. We had to shower elsewhere. The second issue later that day was a water leak in the bathroom from the ceiling. We were offered different rooms to accommodate us but the one that worked best for us, didn’t have a kitchen. The room we originally paid for had a kitchen. No big deal, we made it work without a kitchen. The third issue was the tub not draining after my niece took a shower (this is the new room we got moved to) Again, interrupting and delaying our plans. Someone came with a plunger and cleared the clog. I understand things happen and will say they were apologetic for everything. I asked if we could have a discount considering we were inconvenienced with 3 issues, and paid for a room with a kitchen at checkout. They stated it was not their policy to do so because they were unforeseen circumstances. Come on! I’ve been in the servicing industry for many years and having a customer pay for something they did not get, is not the way to go. And with 3 issues? I will also add that the hotel is old and pictures are deceiving. Not a...

My family stayed here for 5 days and had a great time. The staff, especially Ann-Marie, were so friendly and genuinely cared about making their guests feel welcome. We stayed in the room that had two full beds and a little kitchenette. It was very minimal, just a bare bones room, but it was nothing less than we expected and had all the essentials for a short vacation. The price was unbeatable and only one block from the beach. The hotel had a really nice outdoor pool with an 8ft deep end so my kids loved this. We actually spent more time at the hotel pool than the beach. There were also a couple of nice gas grills which I loved using while my wife and kids would play games on the patio/deck.

There are only two cons of this motel which were not by any means deal breakers for us, nor will they deter us from staying here again in the future. 1) Flushing the toilets required you to hold the handle for 10-15 seconds for one flush to complete. This was annoying but it's because management is very big on being eco-friendly here so they have water efficient systems installed which results in a slow flush. 2) The beds were very old/uncomfortable. My wife and I both have bad backs so it was pretty rough for us but my kids didn't seem to notice at all and said they slept great.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay and my kids were asking to come back next year because they had such a great time. If you're looking for a place within walking distance to the beach that won't break the bank and has very pleasant staff and atmosphere then this is the...
