Let me start by saying I am a total hotel snob. I did extensive research on hotels in Cape Cod. We were visiting during prime time and it was our first time. I couldn’t find any negative reviews about Freebird and liked that it was a newer motel. The price was amazing being that most places were double for the night. I took a chance and booked it. I am not going to lie I was extremely nervous. When we arrived we were greeted in the lobby and quickly checked in. We were given a cup of Champaign which I thought was a great touch. Lobby was clean and had a way out to the indoor pool. There was a microwave and snacks you could buy. It was time to see the room. We were room 5 on the first level. I was pleasantly surprised with the room. It was fresh looking and most importantly clean. A cute towel animal was made on the bed. The bathroom was also very clean and it smelled so good. This was something I noticed every time I went in there. The shower pressure was amazing and made for long showers. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash they provided was loved by my husband. So with all that being said, I would love to give the best rating. The location of the motel is perfect. However, one incident changed my mind. One evening we returned early to the motel and looked forward to sitting by the pool and getting a drink. It was a beautiful night. The minute we headed over we could smell marijuana. It was so strong. Some people may think this isn’t a big deal, but I am very sensitive to it. We went to the lobby to ask if it’s legal in MA. We are from NY where it is legal. We were told it was. My husband asked if that means it could be used at the pool. The worker wasn’t sure and told us he would tell a boss and someone would be in touch with us. That night I sent an email through their website explaining what happened. The next day we heard nothing. Finally two days later we checked in again and spoke to someone else. They told us that it is not allowed on property. We asked for compensation of some sort being that it was the only nice night we could use the pool amenities. Nothing was done and this was disappointing. This has discouraged us from wanting to stay again. As a parent with younger kids, I feel that this should not have been allowed. It truly makes me sad. The night it happened the situation should have been handled and put to an end. It wasn’t. We were forced to go to our room on a gorgeous night. Overall, how it was handled was disappointing. We never had the chance to experience the pool and fire pits or what looked to be amazing drinks and pizzas. Had the situation been handled or if we were offered some sort of compensation my rating would have...
Read moreFreebird Motor Lodge was the perfect match for my family of four. Check-in with Charles went smooth, and the cucumber water was exactly what I needed. The interior and exterior design of this motel is both chic while feeling comfortable and casual. The designer did a fantastic job. The two double bed rooms were great. We loved how there was a comfy bench and table, a perfect alternative to bed sitting. I am always a fan of rooms that keep the bathroom separate from the sink. It is nice for a family to be able to use the vanity apart from the bathroom. Good natural light from the window in shower room. I'm surprised everyone isn't booking this Motel because of the pool! Huge pool that's outdoor but also has an indoor section! The pool hang out areas felt welcoming for a family, and I can also see how friends and couples without kids would enjoy as well. There is plenty of comfortable seating, an outside bar, pizza, firepit, and again, the design style of everything is really cool. We chose this place because of the outside pool and location, and it was beyond 5 for stars for that. Drove less than 5 minutes from the water park to check in, and for the rest of your stay, we walked to dinner, ice cream, shopping, breakfast, and lunch. The few cons to mention are not worthy of taking away a star are as follows. Unfortunately, the AC wasn't on, so we were hoping for that walk into a cool room after a full day in the sun but instead walked into a really hot room. But once we turned on, it cooled down just fine. Bar accepts credit cards, but you can't tip on the card. I respect a bartender getting cash tips, but since I didn't have any cash, I wasn't able to tip at all. Lastly, the clock in our room was off by 30 minutes, which I didn't realize till morning and couldn't fix. It's wasn't a big deal for us and didn't affect our trip, but I could see how that could mess someone else up. The clock itself was great with nature sounds, Bluetooth, and chargers. Thank...
Read moreWhat can I say? This was my fifth stay at The Free Bird, and each time I leave, it gets harder to say goodbye. There’s just something magical about this place — the vibe is effortlessly cool, welcoming, and just right.
The pool area feels like your own private oasis — modern, peaceful, and the perfect place to unwind. And let’s talk about the garage pool... it’s a total gem and has become one of my favorite spots to relax. Having The Dirty Bird right there for food and drinks is a game-changer — convenient, delicious, and totally on-brand for the laid-back, rock-and-roll feel of the property.
The rooms are consistently spotless and spacious, with decor that strikes the perfect balance between stylish and comfortable. And the classic rock playing across the grounds? So good! I’ve even found myself wanting to add to it.
But what truly makes The Free Bird stand out is the people. The staff here are simply exceptional. The owner is always around, always warm, and always remembers you — it makes a world of difference. Charmin has checked me in every single time, and every single time she greets me by name with a smile that feels genuinely happy to see me again. Sophia and the rest of the housekeeping and grounds crew are just as kind — always cheerful, always helpful.
It’s that rare kind of place where you don’t just feel like a guest — you feel like family. Over the years, The Free Bird has become my home away from home, and I truly can’t recommend it enough. Its location is super convenient — right across from West Yarmouth Road, so you’re close to Route 28, Route 6, and 6A.
I’m excited to check out their new spot, The Uncommoner, up the road — but no matter what, The Free Bird will always...
