In November-2016 we booked via expedia a two night stay at this hotel to take place during April-2017. We pre-paid expedia for the stay at the time of booking. When we arrived at the hotel at about 9.30 p.m., after a lengthy queue at reception (I think a Russian group had been arguing about the same issue that we had), we presented our expedia booking slip to the receptionist. We were then asked for ALL of our registration slips during our time in Uzbekistan (bizarre - this was the first time we had been asked for this by a hotel) and our passports. The receptionist then went off to photocopy our passports and registration slips. When he returned he told us that we needed to pay again for the hotel since they had "stopped using expedia". We protested and explained that we had pre-paid and that they would have received the funds from expedia even if they had subsequently stopped using them as a booking agent. He stated that they did not "take the funds" from their expedia account. We refused to pay again and he then told us we should call expedia. We told him that he should contact them since it was an issue between the hotel and expedia. He begrudgingly agreed to contact expedia but then just started serving another customer! Therefore we were left with little alternative other than to call expedia ourselves, from our mobile (we are on a foreign plan), at our expense. Expedia called the hotel whilst we were on hold and we saw the receptionist answer the phone. He answered the call with "ah yes I have been expecting your call" in a very arrogant manner, even though he was supposed to be the one calling expedia! He refused to honour the booking again and then told expedia that he had now given away our room so there was no room left at the hotel! ||||To cut a long story short, expedia ended up transferring us to a different hotel but we were offered no help, assistance or apology from Gloria Hotel. Their attitude and customer service was terrible. One has to wonder why they no longer use expedia. I would have to guess it was probably expedia who had issues with this hotel, not vice...
Read moreOur stay at Hotel Gloria in Tashkent was deeply disappointing from start to finish. The hotel is housed in an old, poorly maintained building with dirty carpets that give a generally unhygienic feel. The bed made loud creaking noises with every slight movement, and the toilet door couldn’t even be locked properly. To make matters worse, the toilet flush barely worked, which was very frustrating. Despite booking a room with a king-size bed, we were given one with two twin beds — no apology or explanation provided. The worst part was being forced to pay USD 8 for paint stains we were falsely accused of causing on the wall. It’s not about the money, but the injustice of being blamed for something we clearly didn’t do. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel. Booking.com should seriously reconsider continuing to list this property. Just read the other reviews before booking — we unfortunately didn’t, and now we regret it. Save yourself the trouble and...
Read moreI stayed here twice, first time was for 2 nights, then a single night a week later.||The first stay - very hard bed, A/C kept room cool, curtains would completely close, tv did not function.||Second stay - was given a 2 room suite, A/C vent was in bedroom and kept room cool but there was no outlet in the living room and it stayed uncomfortably warm, it would have helped if the living room curtains could completely close and block out the sun from heating up the place. Comfortable bed, tvs worked. ||Breakfast was okay/good, with eggs and omelettes to order. They do not exchange currency here, nor could the receptionist tell me where any exchange places were (note that the unofficial exchanges were giving 8,200 Som per US$ in the first week of June).||5 minutes walk to the subway station.||Wifi was terrible, would work okay for 1 or 2 minutes, then take 15 - 20 minutes to load the next page/link, definitely not suitable for anybody...
