Hanoi Inner Hotel — Hotel in Hà Nội

We booked this hotel last minute through Agoda and got a special rate on the ‘honeymoon suite’ with a ‘balcony view of the city’, a bathtub, a king bed, a sofa, and a wardrobe with a safe. What we got were two full size beds pushed together with towels between them to close the gap, a window that looked at another building, a shower, no couch, and a broken safe inside a very dirty wardrobe.

Clearly, the ‘honeymoon suite’ was double booked because without yet voicing our concerns about the room, Lucy (the owner? Manager?) asked if we’d like to switch rooms because 'it would be better'. My guess is that they double booked the suite and then also double booked the room they placed us in so they needed us out of it to accommodate someone that needed two beds.

The room and hotel are in dire need of an update. The room door doesn’t fit into the frame so there’s no barrier for hallway noise, the furniture is old and grimy, the walls look like they have mold on them. Lucy, aside from toying with us about the rooms, was kind and helped us book a tour to bai tu long bay, but I would definitely not recommend...

Room size is decent. The room is not well kept, very dirty at some point. Stains on bedsheets, beds, smelly bedsheet making you wonder if bedsheets has actually been washed after previous guest. Pieces of toenail clipped found on floor, and thick layers of dust on top of furniture. At night, I couldn't sleep because of mosquitoes. While trying to catch mosquitoes, I saw cockroaches crawling near headboard of the beds. There was urine stain on washroom toilet which didn't get cleaned up for three days. There is dark mold growing on bum gun.

So you can definitely see that the place is gross no matter how you put it. But why 4* review? The hotel is priced at $30 CAD, and this is on the same league as slightly more expensive hostel. So if you can't look past sanitary point, this hotel is horrible but within hostel standards.. you can argue that there's better value to this hotel than hostel as just few more dollars, you get private bathroom...

Original rating would have been a 4 out of 5 stars, but I'm giving it a 2 now because on one of the days, after leaving the hotel room early morning then returning around 7pm or so, we found a large key ring of hotel keys attached to our room door. Seems like room service had forgotten to retrieve it and left our room door slightly ajar for many hours. While hotel room staff were pleasant throughout our stay there, this was a major mistake with possibly disastrous consequences. Luckily it seems like nothing was missing. Additionally, room service did not remove hair from the hair catcher at the shower, and also did not wipe down sink counter. Despite that, I still would've rated it 4 out of 5 due to its overall great value (good location, a/c was cold, room was large), but I do think that leaving a key chain of hotel room keys and our door open was...
