I write this review with a heavy heart, because it was a mixed event. I still feel like I should tell what I experienced though. I booked with Perfume, because my friend had stayed there and loved it. Can’t go wrong I thought. Perfume welcomed me and was kind and gave me tea. There was a lot of construction work going on and I asked if this would affect my stay. She said she had a different homestay with family if I preferred quiet, because it was wasn’t very tranquil at hers. So I accepted and she took me there. It was a bar as well as a homestay and when I got to the room it was basic but okay. I found hair in the bin and a used razor, the toilet wasn’t clean and there were long hairs in the bed. I asked if they could clean that while I got some dinner outside. When I got back the bin had been changed, but the bed and toilet were the same. So I texted perfume to ask if I needed to wait and while I waited for a reply down at the bar, the people working there were all on the phone and yelling. I had a feeling it was because of what I had asked and I was right. They were angry because they found it clean and I didn’t. Because of this I felt uncomfortable staying there and they said “leave’. In a very unkind manner. I left with my heavy bags after a long flight and it was already evening. Perfume sent me a message with apologies and I cannot fault her. But it was quite a traumatizing first evening in Vietnam. Maybe it was me, but I feel a bed should be without long hairs around the pillow and a clean dry toilet. It was a different location, but it is a...
Read moreI write this with mixed feelings since the host was amazing and really tried to make everything right for us. But when we arrived they told us we would get a free upgrade with a room with a balcony, later when the room was ready we got a room without any windows to the outside and with HUGHE amounts of mould. When we asked what happened with the room with the balcony they said that the guest staying in that room decided to stay so they gave us their biggest room instead, which was very nice of course. But us only being 2 people and really didn’t have any need for 3 beds… would have preferred the room we booked that actually had a window. The next morning I woke up with a massive allergic reaction in my face. Never happened to me before so don’t know if it was because of the mould. They then helped us to switch room which was also so sweet of them to do, but that room also had a very distinct smell of mould. I took antihistamines the last day to make sure I didn’t have the same reaction. I understand that doing renovations and upkeeps on a hotel can be very expensive, at the same time - that amount of mould is really dangerous for people’s health. I’m not just only thinking about the guests, but the staff too that breath that air everyday. It’s pretty sad… I don’t think all rooms have this issue, maybe we were just unlucky.
Besides the mould issue the host and the staff did a great job to make us feel welcomed. They helped us with all our bags, recommended a great restaurant place and were just very helpful and...
Read moreUpon arriving at Hanoi Family Homestay we were escorted over to Perfume’s Cozy House, a few doors down. That didn’t bother me too much as long as the room was equivalent. However, I don’t feel that it was. It was certainly much bigger (a family room with 1 king bedroom, and 2 queen beds) but most of that space was wasted on us as we were just a couple. Also the room had no natural light or view. The tv didn’t work and the wifi was spotty. Although we slept great because the bed was comfortable and there was minimal noise, it did feel a bit like we were in a cave.
There were 2 main issues with the accommodation, the bathroom is infested with flies- no matter what we did we couldn’t get rid of them - and it’s extremely damp. We ended up throwing out a bag and some shoes that became moldy and couldn’t be salvaged. We tried everything we could to ventilate the room; leaving the fans and bathroom fan on all day, but everything in the room just felt damp nevertheless.
Now one thing that must be said is that, as other reviews mention, the hosts are fantastic. They were always ready to help with any situation and really provided great service.
Overall I would stay again, although I would personally avoid the...
