Overall: I think social media has definitely done Peridot Grand a favor by making it seem something it’s not. If you want something that will look nice on Instagram or TikTok, then by all means, this is the place for you. However, if you are looking for a true 5-star hotel experience, you might want to look elsewhere. I promise this isn’t it. Additionally, the staff were a bit pushy about getting us to leave reviews, which felt a bit off-putting.
On our initial stay we received a free room upgrade which I initially thought was a nice gesture. We were only going to stay one night before going to halong bay and back to Peridot afterwards, so we had picked the cheapest room as it was only one night. When checking out, despite disputing I was charged the nightly rate for the room at $300 which was double the original price. Upon returning our bags were left in the lobby. The second time we checked out there was only one person available at reception at 5AM. We were checking out early to get to the airport on time and the boy with the cheap suit and no shoes on said to come back at 12. Absolutely stupid. I obviously did not wait but come on.
Room and Amenities: The room was smaller than expected with absolutely no view, nothing like the website. The tub was spacious enough (I’m 6ft 1 for reference). However, the overfill drain on the tub drains directly to the floor, which seemed like a design flaw. When I spoke to reception about it, the young cheap suit boy annoyingly said it was the tub design and there was nothing they could do about it. I’m no bath tub expert but I know the tub isn’t meant to drain directly on the floor.
Dining: Breakfast, served from 6:30 AM to 10 AM, was underwhelming, with most items lacking flavor and offering few options. It would have been helpful to have allergens listed next to food titles, as many other places do. The restaurant and bar upstairs were overpriced, Expect to spend $100-$200 for a meal and drinks for two, while similar options outside the hotel cost significantly less.
Facilities: The gym was tiny, not big enough for four people comfortably. A significant downside was the gym’s opening hours. All amenities, including the gym, open at 9 AM, which is inconvenient for those who prefer an early workout. This is especially problematic considering breakfast service ends at 10 AM. It makes no sense to restrict gym access in this way, particularly when many guests like to exercise before starting their day. The gym is also situated directly above the reception area, and there are concerns that the noise might disturb other guests or at least that’s what the boy with the cheap suit came to bark at us about. This setup is...
Read moreFirstly just wow, this venue is lovely.
I arrived with a friend in a taxi which we were sorting out as they were trying to scam us for more. (Set price then wanting 150,000 extra for a toll)
As we got out of the vehicle the hotel security spotted us and walked over, I think that's great as the taxi driver clearly wasn't going to try and more scam tactics.
We were a bit perplexed as it didn't look like we expected from a hotel of this rating, however the security guard showed us an alley and at that point it's very nice looking, it's just that the hotel is set back from the main road (good for noise).
The check in experience was lovely with a welcome drink, sat on the sofa waiting for paperwork to be conducted.
Was shown to the room and the facilities explained.
The room was lovely, the only note is to be aware that you pull the shower dial away from the wall to start the shower, and the shower's pressure wasn't as good as I'd like.
At no point did anything seem too much trouble, plenty of helpful staff around.
The rooftop infinity pool is amazing, with staff offering to turn on the jacuzzi if desired. Very quiet pool until the tours started returning.
The rooftop bar was lovely, though some of the seats were damp, I think they left the cushions out in the rain, but easily solved by moving seat.
Prices were high but not too unreasonable for the calibre of the hotel.
Breakfast in the morning bad a massive variety, you could easily find something of interest from a range of cuisines.
The big downside I think is being made to feel like a criminal a bit? In the room there's a sheet of paper explaining how many of every item is in the room and how much each would cost if you took it. On check out they radio a cleaner to go and check the room before they close out your bill, I guess in case you took something. Sorry but the calibre and price of the hotel, you're unlikely to have people taking items and if you do then you can charge their card etc like most hotels do with a security deposit, really strange this approach.
Check out takes about 10 minutes so plan this in if you have a tour.
I looked to stay again later in the week instead of another hotel booking but it was full.
I'd stay here again even with the criminal feeling at the end.
To improve Get rid of the paper implying the cost of taking items Don't make people wait whilst you check the room Perhaps do what our next hotel did and check in on WhatsApp each day, asking if there's any issues or offering advice if interested.
Great place,...
Read morePeridot was rated number one in premium luxury when I was looking for hotels nearby Old Quarter & based on my stay I can confirm Peridot lives up to the #1 spot.
Located in the heart of Old quarter, it’s a perfect spot in terms of location & convenience. With the Train street being a 7-10 minute walk from the hotel, there’s also 100’s of restaurants, mini-shops & lots of convenience stores near the hotel. (maazi restaurant is one id recommend for sure)
In terms of the hotel itself, from outside it doesn’t seem like a 5-star hotel but the second you’re greeted by the staff at the entrance to the moment you step in the hotel you get an idea of the 5-star tag!
The interior is very elegant from the reception to the restaurants, breakfast area & even the room has a classy touch. The room looked very nice but with the bed spacing and furniture I reckon, if you have 2 big suitcases it might be difficult to leave it open as it would get in the way!! But not a biggie! Bathroom was very spacious too with a nice bathtub. Apart from the spacing would give the room a 4.5 on 5!
Coming to the service & staff, it was a 6 on 5! They were very particular about the check in time being specifically at 2 pm as they were very busy (I do believe them) but the attendant to my room (Kylie) was very helpful! Even after check-in, she ensured if I needed help or any tips around the hotel or places to go; she was ever ready to help out! She even helped me get a Vietnamese hat for my friend & sent me the train schedule for the train street! Even the staff at the doors, breakfast & reception gave a very welcoming vibe!
For the amenities & restaurants, I didn’t get to eat at any restaurants from the hotel as there were so many good options nearby but man oh man! The BREAKFAST buffet was WOWZERS! Despite having so many options they still changed the menu and items everyday! Even the daily smoothies/juices were different and gosh, that Avocado/Banana smoothie was just 🤤 (in case you can’t see the emoji I meant DEELEECEEYUS) they even made a chicken Banh-mi for my friend as she didn’t eat beef/pork which was also in her words “the best” and she could eat it everyday!
The pool at the top is also pretty good with a nice view if you swim in the dark! Even the jacuzzi was nice!!
Overall id surely recommend staying at Peridot & if I’m staying in Hanoi again id surely stay there again!
Oh btw if you book tours for Ha Long Bay/Ninh-Bin, buses would surely pick you up from Peridot itself as it’s right in the middle of old quarter so that’s a +...
