The Ekka is always a fun time with the family. The entry price is affordable but overall it can be an expensive day.
There is a plenitude of food and tasty treats available. Prices are mostly around $24 a meal and $10 for a snack.
Rides are now around $12 to $15 each… and don’t last long. If you purchase a fun pass be careful to budget your points so you don’t end up with unusable credit left over.
This year everything looked like it had been upgraded. The rides and food carts all looked shiny and new, and clean…. like they’d just had a new coat of paint. No more vendors or rides that looked old and tired. The younger kids section had noticeably new fun rides, which was a great improvement on past years. Even the buildings and walkways looked like they’d had a fresh coat of paint. I was impressed.
The entertainment in the main arena was great. Always lots to keep the whole family’s interest. From motorbikes, cars, horses, to the favourite fireworks spectacular! And of course the wood chop, animal nurseries and dog shows are always a favourite too!
The different pavilions had plenty of interesting things to see… and taste. And of course the famous Ekka strawberry icecream still delight!
The train now operates an Ekka loop directly onsite, taking people to a few central stops around Brisbane. This was super convenient for people coming to the show, and looked like it was...
Read moreNo security, some intoxicated racists were threatening to break my sibling’s neck, non-provoked.. simply because we are people of colour and according to her, with all the crowd we were standing too close, it was hard to move further away due to the amount of crowd around us, people trying to watch the night shows). Our Ekka trip this year was a total waste of time, money… as we went in the late afternoon just to catch a glimpse of the shows and when we tried to look for security we were told there was none and to go upstairs and get the police. Once police were called, they explained they need to wait until the show finishes so they don’t cause a scene trying to confront the lady who was threatening us. Instead, police got a callout on their walkie talkies and told us they will come back later, as they had a callout out for a missing child. Due to the aggressiveness of the lady & her serious threats, we did not feel safe and caught the next train home (to avoid...
Read moreI would like to make a formal complaint against the security guard who approached me, touched me, and verbally abused my lawyer, telling me to “shut your mouth.” This is extremely disappointing, especially considering that my lawyer is a member of the RNA, and that this security guard accused my solicitor of something he did not see and had no knowledge of. I requested that the police be called immediately, but the security guard acted as if he had the authority to judge this situation of humiliation and harassment. He witnessed me being abused by two women and did nothing, yet demanded that my solicitor leave the premises. This is unacceptable. We urgently need this security guard’s details in order to file a formal complaint...
