Terrible place STAY AWAY! Worst service , worst quality and highest prices at the market. I was abused by the owner because I asked if possible to have one steak vacuum sealed. He then personally attacked me with insults about my appearance in front of other shoppers!!! Incredibly abusive and down right disgusting especially coming from the owner of the shop!! I was given an unsolicited lecture about them being to busy to vac seal one steak at 9am in the morning on a Wednesday. When I said you don’t need to speak to me in that manner the personal insults about my appearance started . On top of that they over charged me by more than $11.00 just for a further slap in the face.
A horrible experience , I have heard from locals these guys are renown for atrocious customer service and over charging. With so many better options at the market , my family and friends will NEVER shop here again. Imagine being abused for politely asking to have one steak vac sealed up.
Stay far away from this abusive shop owner! This guy should be SHUT DOWN or exposed on ACA !!! (Who I will be contacting)

Read moreWhat could have been a 5 star steak review has been rated 2 stars for the following reasons:
-1 star for produce quality. Not any better tasting considering the more than doubling in pricing compared to what else on offer at the rest of the Sth Melbourne markets, provenance excluded as this was unknown on labelling
-2 stars for the sheer indifference shown by the staff and butcher when paying over $150/kg for a porterhouse cut. No thank you or otherwise, just a "there you go". Now, I understand the lax nature of Australian culture and language, and am all for it. However, when EVERY other shop at the market offers the basic thank you, or have a nice day, the inherent snobbery shown at a minimalist shop with hard to read labels is more a shopping turn-off than a drawcard.
It should not have to feel as though it is a privilege to be buying free-range meat. Rather, I suggest taking a cue from other shops at the market that do offer sustainable produce and show basic manners, letting the reasonable but not outstanding produce...
Read moreReally disappointing first experience with this butcher yesterday at the South Melbourne Market. We purchased x2 Scotch fillets, mince beef as well as packaged peppercorn sauce which cost over $70 odd dollars. Last night we cooked the fillets as per we usually would and they turned out to be the most rubbery, dry, toughest steaks we had ever had which was exceptionally disappointing given the price. We usually do not purchase meat from here but given the aesthetic of the butcher as well as being organic we thought we would give it a shot. Hopefully we do not have such a disappointing experience with the beef...
