Today, August 5th, I visited the special one-day exhibition at the Subiaco Museum themed 'Old Time Motion Pictures', focused on the evolution of motion pictures from the late 19th century to the Charlie Chaplin era. This was an incredibly fascinating and educational experience for both myself and my family.

In addition to the motion picture exhibit, the Subiaco Museum itself is a trip back in time, showcasing what life was like in Subiaco around 100 years ago. There are displays of old street scenes, house patios, singer sewing machines, cutlery, dresses, and many other household items that provide a glimpse into the past. It's amazing to see how much life has changed in Subiaco while still retaining its historic charm.

The motion picture exhibit itself was captivating. The museum had an impressive display of old photographic techniques and equipment, including the phenakistoscope, zoetrope, and praxinoscope. The praxinoscope was especially neat - it's a device that uses a strip of hundreds of sequential images to simulate motion when viewed through slits in a spinning cylinder. In the old days, people would insert 20 cent coins to watch these primitive form of movies!

It was remarkable to see the science behind these early animation inventions first-hand. The passionate museum guide really brought the history alive as she explained how they worked.

In addition to the early animation devices, the museum also featured some classic Charlie Chaplin short films. It was fantastic to see these early comedic masterpieces on the big screen.

This exhibit is an absolute must-see for anyone interested in the origins of photography and motion pictures. The next special family activity and one-day exhibition on September 2nd will be on archeological digs, which also sounds fascinating.

It's amazing to see how this art form evolved from simple animation tricks to the polished Hollywood films we know today. The museum provides fun, free lollies for kids and offers these unique exhibits on the first Saturday of every month through Christmas. I highly recommend visiting this incredible living museum that showcases both Subiaco's history as well as the evolution of...
