We were excited to try this restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t meet expectations. While the customer service was very good—friendly and attentive—the food and overall experience left a lot to be desired.
Right when we walked in, we were hit by a strong kitchen smell, like oil and grill smoke, which lingered throughout our entire visit. By the time we left, our clothes and hair were smelling like a fryer—something you definitely don’t expect (or want) when dining out. It seems like the ventilation or exhaust system isn’t working properly.
As for the food, I had the pistachio risotto topped with prawn carpaccio. The portion was very small, barely covering the plate, and to make it worse, the carpaccio had a plastic layer still stuck on top. My husband ordered the eye fillet, and although he’s a big guy, his dish came with just two tiny pieces of meat. We also tried the crunchy potatoes, but they were overly oily and heavy.
In the end, we left still hungry and ended up grabbing dinner somewhere else. For the prices they charge, we expected much more in terms of portion size, quality, and atmosphere. Sadly, we won’t...
Read moreGreat venue and food, atrocious management/customer service.
I rarely write reviews, but this needs to be called out.
We visited City Cellar over a week ago for dinner and were pleasantly surprised and loved it. I then decided to celebrate my upcoming birthday with a party of 7 in their private dining room. Talked to the manager on the day, who then asked me to send an email to discuss details. No problem, done that. 2 days later no reply, so I rang them up. “Yes, we will send you something!”. Which he did indeed. All sounded reasonable and loved the ambiance and dining room, sent back a couple of questions about the menu and that I’d like to secure the booking/pay a deposit if required. Radio silence for 5 days. Ok, they must be busy. Called them up, the manager without saying Hi or anything, said “I will send you something today.” and hung up on me. Goes without saying, he sent nothing.
This “manager” shouldn’t be in a position where he interacts with customers. Never experienced such manners, arrogance, and disinterest at a so-called “upmarket” venue. Not even good enough behaviour for a fast...
Read moreBeen here a few times and I love the fit out and concept. The food is nice and the wines are lovely too. Sausage rolls are lovely, and the charcuterie plate was delicious. The service is currently a bit off and needs work (imho). It's been quite unfriendly at times. Its fine to say, sorry we're full (which I get) but being asked ''How did you get in here? ' when we'd already found seats and tried to order drinks isn't really a good look for any new venue. We were served grudgingly but it was like they were doing us a favour. I really like the place, and it is a beautiful addition to Subiaco but sort out the service and maybe have someone at the bottom of the stairs to restrict numbers if you are full, or someone (friendly) to seat you if that's important. Apparently there are strict numbers allowed and I understand this, but manage it before it becomes a client problem. This review is based on 4 visits within the first few weeks...
