My experience with RevyCar has been almost 100% positive.
My wife and I live in Pennsylvania, and we wanted to experience the Canadian Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest, so we decided to do a one-way road trip from Calgary Airport (YYC) to Kelowna Airport (YLW).
After being discouraged by the pricing and availability from "the big name rental places," I found RevyCar on Google.
The booking website felt a bit outdated, making me question the validity of the business. However, I called the phone number and immediately spoke with a real person (Keegan, who I believe is the owner).
I found a Tesla Model Y on their booking website and was interested in booking it. Keegan answered all of my questions about the vehicle, charging infrastructure, and the feasibility of an EV for our trip.
Speaking with him on the phone made me feel comfortable entering my credit card details on the site. I think that, as a small business, RevyCar chose to invest more in their vehicles than their booking platform.
Unfortunately, the Tesla had a maintenance issue during my booking period, so RevyCar offered me a 2024 Kia Telluride X-Pro instead.
The car was clean, well-maintained, topped off with gas, and waiting for us at Calgary Airport.
My every day car is a Tesla Model Y, so stepping into a gas vehicle took a little bit of adjustment from my expectations; acceleration was "glacial" (pun intended), but I think it was appropriate for the size of the vehicle. Unlike the last rental car I had (from an unnamed company), the rotors didn't have any groves or warping, so stopping was smooth - even on long downhills like the summit of Mt. Revelstoke (I also used manual downshifting to mitigate gravity speed gains). The Telluride is a large SUV, so parking is a little awkward in places where you could reasonably fit a Model Y or smaller car (like anywhere in downtown Banff or Kelowna). The car has some elementary driving assistance features like lane-keep and traffic aware cruise control, which was nice to ease the drive.
When I dropped off the car in Kelowna, I realized I had forgotten to refill the tank after I was already in the gated parking lot. I called the phone number and again immediately spoke with a real person. I apologized for forgetting to fill the tank, and he was polite and understanding (I acknowledged that I would have to pay the contracted rate for fuel).
Thanks to RevyCar, we were able to drive through Calgary, Golden, Canmore, Banff, and Kelowna. We saw so many beautiful sights and will definitely book through them again if we're...
Read moreWhile driving the rental vehicle on a highway at an average speed of 110 km/h, the dashboard showed that the remaining fuel range was approximately 60 kilometers. The nearest gas station was about 15 kilometers away. At that moment, the vehicle suddenly stalled and could not be restarted. With the help of a friend, I had to push the car to the roadside and call for roadside assistance.
The towing company arrived and made several attempts to start the vehicle, all of which failed. After the car was left parked for a day, we attempted to start it again, but it still would not start. At that point, the dashboard still showed a remaining driving range of 41 kilometers.
The rental company later towed the vehicle for inspection and concluded that the problem was caused by me operating the car below a so-called “safe fuel level,” which they claimed led to issues with the fuel system. As a result, they placed full responsibility for the incident—and all related costs—on me.
Firstly, in all my years of driving experience, I have never encountered such a situation. It is common knowledge that a properly functioning and road-safe vehicle should not shut off suddenly while still showing a remaining range of 60 kilometers. Moreover, there was no indication in the rental contract or on the vehicle itself specifying what constitutes a “safe fuel level” or warning against driving on the highway with a certain amount of fuel.
In addition, the vehicle was picked up through a self-service process with no staff interaction. Upon pickup, I noticed the windshield was damaged and the interior had not been cleaned, with trash left inside. I immediately emailed the rental company with photos attached, but received no reply.
This leads me to question whether the vehicle was properly inspected before it was handed over to us. I now have serious concerns about the validity and fairness of the rental agreement. Therefore, I believe I should not be held liable for the...
Read moreIf we could rate them higher, we would. On day one of our holiday, we were rear-ended outside of Revy on a busy summer weekend, and our car was undrivable. We have two small kids and were four hours from home and two hours from our destination. Our insurance said no car rentals were open nearby and suggested a $300 taxi to Vernon, where our car would get towed to. After a quick search, I found RevyCar and called. I was overwhelmed from the crash and stressed about us being stranded with our kids and no car. Keegan, who answered, was so kind. He noted they didn’t have any cars available but would try and help us out. 20 min later, he called back. They had a car that he would bring to us where we were stranded. This meant he would have to do an additional trip out to Kelowna to bring another car back to Revy for a reservation the next day. That he would take that on to help us out of a desperate situation is the type of act of kindness that restores your faith in people. We are so thankful that they went above and beyond, and we will tell everyone to support this amazing local business. They saved our family holiday, and we are...
