Terrible and incredibly disappointing experience. I was about to buy a couple of smaller items when the sales assistant asked for my passport. I hadn’t brought any ID at all as I was carrying a very small bag with only my bare essentials - and without any ID the sales assistant refused my wish to make the purchase. I couldn’t believe it?! I live in Paris so there was no tax refund to manage etc, so it didn’t make any sense at all. I have since enquired directly with VISA (the card I tried to use in Goyard) to find out whether this kind of requirement to show ID as a condition for purchasing is even allowed, and it turns out that Goyard does NOT have the right to do that, unless they can clearly show the validity of such a condition in their purchase policy, and this has to be first cleared with VISA. It would usually be relevant when buying restricted goods, such as alcohol, firearms etc, (ie not for something as trivial as bags), OR they can request it if fraud is suspected, which is also far-fetched in this case. I have made far bigger purchases in Paris without ever having to show ID; the whole situation was just bizarre. I can’t work out whether it’s incompetence or just being rude, but I suggest that Goyard invest a little more in educating the staff in general customer services at this branch, and explain to them that they should not be overstepping on privacy rules that are in place to protect their customers. Is it even legal? Or are they just doing it because they think they can get away with it? What I experienced was very uncomfortable for sure and I will never be back in this shop, nor will I ever recommend it to others. The behaviour by the staff is morally abhorrent - who do they think we are? Mere cash-cows to be bled for cash? I asked my husband if he was required to show ID when he bought a bag in the very same shop for our daughter last month, and he told me he wasn’t asked for that at all, so it’s easy to conclude that there might be some kind of discrimination involved as well. This is not a good look for an old and otherwise well-respected brand such as Goyard. They need to investigate what is going on in this shop, as it seems I’m not the only unhappy customer either, judging from the comments. Update: I went to the original shop in Rue St. Honore the following day and received impeccable service! I was not asked for any ID (unless tax free, but it doesn’t apply to me anyway), and all the people working there were friendly and welcoming. I’m so happy that Goyard redeemed itself, as the proud brand...
Read moreOn 18/4/2024, I had an extremely disappointing and disrespectful experience at the Goyard store The incident involved an employee who claimed to be from Croatia but had an Arab appearance, and a supervisor who both exhibited unprofessional behavior and a lack of customer service.
Upon entering the store, I approached an employee who appeared to be of Arab descent but claimed to be from Croatia. From the beginning, his attitude was unwelcoming and rude. When I politely asked for assistance, he responded with a dismissive tone and made me feel unworthy of his attention.
The situation escalated when I noticed the employee seemed parched and politely requested a glass of water for him. Instead of accommodating the request promptly, he insisted on completing his paperwork first. This delay in basic hospitality was disappointing, to say the least.
When I inquired about the employee's name, he audaciously laughed in my face, further exacerbating the disrespectful behavior. Shocked by his response, I approached the supervisor to address the issue. However, instead of resolving the matter professionally, the supervisor exhibited even worse behavior.
Upon asking for her name, the supervisor adamantly refused to provide it, citing a refusal to "get her colleague in trouble." This response was not only unprofessional but also displayed a complete disregard for accountability within the workplace. To my disbelief, she then abruptly asked me to leave the store, asserting that she would not tolerate any attempt to hold her employees accountable for their actions.
The treatment I received at the Goyard store was not only disrespectful but also wholly unacceptable. The behavior exhibited by both the employee and the supervisor was a clear violation of customer service standards and left me feeling marginalized and disrespected. Moving forward, I hope that Goyard takes appropriate action to address this issue and ensures that such incidents do not occur in the future. Customer satisfaction should be a top priority for any reputable establishment, and the behavior displayed by the employees at this particular store falls far short of...
Read moreI did end up buying two bags, but I am extremely disappointed and will never buy from Goyard again because of this shop. We flew all the way from Canada to Paris to shop, and the experience was terrible. The salesperson who assisted us was decent, but he was a contract staff, and I can’t blame him since it seemed he couldn’t do much about the situation.
First, the shop hid the bags and kept saying they were sold out, only to suddenly bring out 1 or 2 bags from downstairs, claiming they had just become available. This is a dishonest selling strategy, and it reflects poorly on their transparency with customers.
My wife then saw another staff member taking a grey hobo bag back downstairs. When we asked our salesperson if we could get it, a full-time staff member rudely told us it was reserved for someone else. However, we later saw him showing the bag to other customers who didn’t even want it and didn't buy it, making it clear that he simply didn’t want to sell it to us.
To top it off, the cashier was also rude. When we politely asked if he could throw a bottle of water into the bin for us, he took it with just two fingers, looking disgusted, as if we had handed him something awful.
Overall, this was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, and it was definitely not what I expected to experience in a luxury brand. I’ve had better shopping experiences at stores like H&M. Went to Céline earlier and the service was top notch. Honestly, despite purchasing two bags, I’ll never buy from Goyard again—it’s just...
