Grecotel Pallas Athena is part of the Grecotel chain city hotels and former Baby Grand Hotel.
Upon arrival you canât access the entrance directly from the front which is a bit weird. The city has made the hotelâs access a one-way approach from the back street so you need to make a turn around the hotel. I had the luck to stop in front of the entrance as there were two free parking spaces. You may use these spaces without costs if they are not taken. Anyway, the welcoming was great, check-in fast and hassle free. White marble stairs and two reliable elevators give access to all levels including ramps for disabled people. The beds are comfy and the toilets clean and spacious. Some rooms have balconies. If your budget allows higher altitudes choose one of the 50sqm suites. Not all of them have picturesque views, but the interior is modern.
In general the hotel is great for singles, couples or families of all ages. It might be a bit freestyle from the outside if you see it for the first time. As well as worn out in the standard rooms or in several areas, but you may trust it due to itâs superb staff and service.
Athens offers you spectacular gastronomic journeys. If youâre fed up taking public transport or if you have enough time, book a cab to selections out of your standard radius like Glyfada or Kifisia in the north. If youâre running out of time you can rely on the hotelâs own restaurant in the first floor. I have tried breakfast, lunch and dinner and there were no bad just good surprises and quality and service to name a few. Coffee was great. Freshly pressed orange juice was a served. Organic olive oil from the companyâs own groves, too. Enjoy specialities from Crete as a reference to the companyâs origin. Another surpriseThe fries are hand-cut and the minced meat was excellent.
The location is near a rather underground area though there is no worry as the entrance faces the diagonal of Kotzia Square. If youâre an explorer or photographer you will love the location. You are in the middle of the city. Nothing posh, but the truth including a lot of history. The vibrant Athinas Street is not a high-street highlight, but is part of Athens and gem for street photography.
Donât worry about your security unless youâre wearing chunky diamonds exposed to the public and singing in bad tunes. I experienced the staff to be polite and honest, a rare quality.
If you drive by car leave it at the hotelâs secure garage a couple of meters away. Omonoia Square Metro Station is a 5-Minute walk. Stadiou Street is a 10 Minute walk. Syntagma Square is a 15-Minute walk. Talk to the reception regarding your public transport tickets.
If youâre coming from Eleftherios Venizelos Airport donât worry either. There is a one-way standard rate of 40,00⏠either from or to the airport (actual at 20.07.2019). If you need a taxi upon departure tell the reception to handle it mentioning a possible credit card payment. Maximum waiting time for taxis is 10 minutes. The journey to the airport is roundabout 45 minutes.
There is a gym offered for hotel guests. Unfortunately there is no roof terrace which would skyrocket the property to new heights.
Given the preferred location, the enormous requests in the summer and the service quality the...
Read moreWe chose this hotel for our first family visit to Athens, solely because it was a Grecotel: we had fabulous experiences with other Grecotels on two Greek islands over the years. However, this hotel was a bit of a disappointment, even though it also had some strong points. The positives include: decent rooms and good breakfasts and good service in the restaurant. But there were more negatives, unfortunately. (1) The location is poor. We didn't know Athens and learned on the first night that this hotel is located in an unsafe neighbourhood full of drug addicts and homeless people. With small children travelling with us, we were quite unsettled by this realisation. (2) The two receptionists in late evening when we checked in were not too friendly, as if we were bothering their chat. They were also a bit cold; don't know why, and atypical of Grecotels. The other receptionists we met the following days were fine, though. (3) We booked two rooms, and in both bathrooms, the sinks did not drain properly. The showers were weak and it took a few minutes for the water to get hot. The toilets were a bit dated even though the rooms themselves were fine, and the beds were comfortable. I give this hotel an overall rating of 3 stars because the negatives were quite serious, more than offset the positives. Knowing what I know now, I would try other hotels closer to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum next time, or even stay in the Athens Riviera next time and commute into the...
