Umezono Onsen — Local services in Beppu

Superb local onsen, recently renovated just re-opened for the public this December 2018. Entrance ¥300, pay at the reception where you can also get your onsen stamp, very friendly staff, no parking. You need to bring your own shampoos and towel. You can't see your stuff while bathing but there are coin lockers to store your valuables. Everything is brand new, excellent and clean facilities. The tub is medium sized, the water temperature was perfect, nice decorations with Japanese plates on the walls and on top of the bath tub there is a painting of mt. Fuji. The poster with the explanation on how to use the onsen and bathe is in six languages (Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese)....

It is literally doing what it is stated to do (mens section) - one bathtub on the floor with a small mount Fuji mosaic, nowhere to put other stuff, and some faucets on the lower ground. Which, is pure Beppu style onsens. Locals come trickling in to use their clocking in card, have their ablutions and leave. Very simple. Very easy - the reception was unmanned when I went, you pay 300 yen and you are good. Bring your own towels and soap, otherwise very clean and good value. Would recommend it to get the overall feel, the water is very pleasant and luke warm. Do not come in a large group it will barely fit 3 to 4 people....

土曜日の午後４時半ころに行きました。２０１６年の熊本大分地震で廃止となり、２０１８年に再建するまでのドキュメンタリーを見たことがあったので興味がありました。路地裏にある温泉で、駐車場が無いので近くのコインパーキングに車を停めて、５分くらい歩きました。組合員では無い私の入浴料は３００円で、受付の男性に支払いました。２０１８年に建て直しているので建物は新しかったです。脱衣場は狭く浴室との間にはガラスの扉がありました。先客のおじさんが着替えて帰るところだったので貸切状態になりました。湯の温度はちょうど良かったです。男湯と女湯は完全に隔離されているので女湯の世間話は聞こえず、流れていく湯の音だけ聞きながら静かに入れました。１０分くらい経って、後客のおじいさんが来ました。おじいさんが「連休中だから竹瓦温泉は満杯で湯がよごれている。」「ここは敷地内から適温の湯が湧いているので水で薄める必要が無いから天国だ。」と教えてくれました。３０分くらい入り、更に後客が来たので出ました。出てから外の足湯のベンチに座って涼みました。そこで話したおばちゃんから、私に教えてくれたおじいちゃんは、主に竹瓦温泉に行く人で、体をきれいに洗わずに入浴したり浴槽の縁に座る客を見るとすぐに怒る人だと教えてもらいました。私はマナーを守ったので怒られませんでした。ホテルニューツルタ、野上本館、カプセルホテルニューグロリアから近く、周りには飲食店や飲み屋が多いので、飲みに行く前に立ち寄って湯に入ると良いと思います。脱衣場には、貴重品ロッカーがあり、３００円の貴重品ロッカーを使用することで入浴料に代えることもできるそうですので、貴重品ロッカーを使用したい人は受付でそのように申し出ると良いと思います。インスタ映えを狙うなら竹瓦温泉でしょうが、本当の地元の温泉を経験したいならお薦めです。入口にはスロープがあり、脱衣場と浴室はフラットなので介助があれば車椅子の人で...
