Stayed for 3 nights. 5 family members. Hotori provides everything you need, a spacious and cozy Machiya house with a large living room (and a tree!), dining area with a well equipped kitchen, a library with interesting book collections. Here you can have a small party, or you can choose to have a me time of reading books and watching tv.
The actual environment is just the same as the photos shown on web (and in fact the actual size is larger than what you see from photos, I think it's perfect for a comfortable stay for up to six people). The mattress and lighting were comfortable. All of us had a high quality sleep. There is also floor heating so it should be perfectly fine even in winter. The bathroom is by far one of the most spacious bathrooms. Literally it can house 10 people inside.
Staff and Concierge We were warmly welcomed by the staff. All of them speak extremely good English. Throughout the stay we were pampered by the team. Prior to our stay we had quite many email exchanges (please email them to ask anything). They always listened to our need and organized everything well. We bother them to pre-order a cake for a small birthday party and they prepared us a very delicious cake after knowing our preferred flavor. Every night when we reached back from a long trip they prepared fruits and sweet for us to enjoy and energize. Hot water always ready for tea and coffee making. We even bothered them to collect some parcels ordered online prior to our stay to save our time. They kept that in mind and helped chasing to make sure everything reached in time. All restaurants were-booked without hiccups.
Overall: Free mini bar, Nespresso machines, high quality amenities, comfy furniture, washing machines, big bathroom, comfortable pillow and mattress are what we look for a high quality stay. If you have the budget and are deciding whether to choose a chained hotel suite or Hotori, Hotori is definitely the choice. They definitely deserve more people to know and it represents the beauty of...
Read moreOur stay at Hotori Villa was truly unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the serene and zen-inspired decor. The space was not only beautifully designed but also impeccably clean, creating an atmosphere of complete relaxation. The location couldn’t have been better—peaceful and convenient, allowing us to easily explore the area while enjoying a sense of privacy and calm.
What really made our stay exceptional, though, were the hosts. One evening, my husband wasn't feeling well, and we were so touched when the owner biked over—15 minutes each way—with a basket full of thoughtful goodies to help him recover. This level of care and kindness went above and beyond anything we expected and made us feel truly welcomed. It's these small, personal touches that turn a stay into a memorable experience.
We also fell in love with the traditional machiya style of the home and are already thinking about how we can bring a bit of that atmosphere into our own home! We can't wait to return to Hotori Villa and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautifully curated stay with...
Read moreWe travel quite a bit and have stayed in dozens of accommodations. Each had their charm, pros and cons. But if I had to pick a favorite, Hotori would be it.
The home is so inviting, well decorated and impeccably maintained. It's truly one of those instances where I can safely say the online pictures don't do it justice. The property looks even better in person.
So much thought went into every corner of the house. Our group loved it so much we extended our stay.
The breakfast was great, the location was excellent and easily accessible by public transit, and their entire staff was extremely friendly and prompt. They went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed, always responded to our inquiries super fast, and even helped our group recover a wallet we had lost during our commute from Kyoto station.
Hotori was the highlight of our visit to Kyoto. A beautiful property with the friendliest team running it. We hope to be...
